Mary-Kate Olsen: Rich Girls Like Recessions

In what is one of the more revealing statements from a celebrity this year, Mary-Kate Olsen, 22, was reportedly overheard on an elevator at Barney's New York City finding a silver lining to the cloudy economy.

"It's really sad—the recession is everywhere. But at least they are having good sales," said Olsen, who pointed to her hat. "That's where I got this! The recession!"

Oh, sweetie. The thousands of people who have been laid off in the last couple of months would like to have a word with you.

Granted, as evidenced by the photos, Mary-Kate might feel at one with the recession-stricken. For the last few years, she's been dressing like somebody who sells pencils out of a cup on a street corner.

Olsen was then spotted considering a $410 menorah and some assorted sheets and bedding by a Page Six source, but the littlest billionaire decided against splurging.

Hmmm. So maybe the reason Mary-Kate is so seldom seen eating is that she doesn't like to waste money on nonessentials, like food.
