M.I.A. Bashes Lady GaGa Again, But Admits She Ripped Her Off

M.I.A. Bashes Lady GaGa Again, But Admits She Ripped Her Off-photo

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Not as far as M.I.A. is concerned.

The "Paper Planes" singer, who recently shocked the world by taking a cheap swipe at Lady GaGa, has once again dissed the Pantless One—even while admitting that she's shamelessly ripped her off.

Comparing GaGa unfavorably to Madonna, M.I.A. tells the New York Times,

“You can’t really say that Gaga is culturally a change. Madonna was truly unique.”

None of which deterred the singer from lifting the concept for GaGa's video collaboration with Beyonce, "Telephone," for her own recent "controversial" video, "Born Free":

“With our video, we were really copying ‘Telephone.' Both our videos are road movies. We kill people, and they kill people. They start out in a prison, and we start out in a squat, hunting people down...I can’t talk about Gaga anymore. All I’ll say is, it’s upsetting when babies say ga-ga now. It used to be innocent. Now, they’re calling her name.”

So just to recap: Lady GaGa isn't unique, but she's interesting enough for you to poach her ideas? What does that say about your own originality, M.I.A.? Sounds like the "gaga"-spouting babies aren't the only ones spewing infantile nonsense.

What an idiot!—Your probably am erican. Get a clue on proper English grammar. It's "you're probably an American." You are the one who looks like an idiot when you can't even write proper English and you are bashing Americans for being stupid!

As some fans have said MIA stands for "missing in action" because she's a one hit wonder. I doubt that Lady Gaga cares much about what MIA has to say about her. It's obvious there's jealousy and other emotions involved when she has to bring in how upset she feels when she hears babies say GAGA. Those comments are beyond necessary for political commentating. Why is it even necessary to go there and bash other artists? MIA barely made it on the scene and now she's the authority on what is legitimate and not legitimate music? I understand posters' comments about her sarcasm regarding the music video she references, but everytime I have read something about MIA, she always seems obsessed with Lady Gaga by making inappropriate or rude comments about her and other artists. I find that an extremely off-putting trait that gives off conceit and arrogance. Let the fans decide for themselves; there are intelligent fans who can make up their own minds about what kind of music they like or don't like. For those American-bashers who posted here who think we're all dumb, contrary to what you think we can be original and creative; we can think intelligently (gasp!) Americans invented most of the technology you are using today, including the internet by which you are using, so don't even go there with these banal comments. By the way if you are going to bash Americans, make sure you use proper grammar when you are bashing us, that way, you don't look like morons! Bottom line is MIA has to work harder in the industry and produce more good and original music to earn herself the respect in the industry and with fans. She is trying to go the easy route to stay relevant by continually having to make shocking comments to bash other artists so she could say how cool and different she is from the so-called "mainstream" pack. That is a sign of major immaturity. Just show you do stand out through your music MIA. You have a lot of growing up to do still.

MIA is completely right. Gaga isn't as original as she thinks she is, but is she even trying to be? Gaga is provocative and relevant , and we need her in the pop music game, because frankly, pop music is catchy and YOU GUYS all know you've had pop songs stuck in your head back in the day and today! But i think M.I.A went a bit far downplaying her "Gaga" name and making that statement about babies. My point being, I believe that Pop music, whether original or not, an an American music staple. We've been needing another pop sensation. M.I.A goes against the mainstream, and we Absolutely need music like her in all our IPODS. And It was time for a pop artist like GAGA (Gaga speaks positively on social issues, gay rights etc.) And About time for an Original artist like M.I.A Cant we just listen to the music for the sake of listening to music and just all get along and do duets together? Imagine MIA and GAGA on a duet, DOPE

M.I.A. lacks class and integrity, in my opinion. Copying the "Telephone" video concept is just ridiculous. I vow not to listen to M.I.A.'s music or watch her videos (not that I did before this.) What an idiot!—Your probably american.

Now this is entertaining, who comes up with this stuff, MIA or the media? If the idiot writer took a moment to read the article she would see MIA was clearly being sarcastic. MIA rants on gaga as an analogy to compare the state of entertainment and how it is prepackaged garbage with no substance. The times article was a total set up, it was contrived, manipulative and oozing BS. The article coming from the same women who ruined the life of courtney love by writing she was doing heroin while pregnant. The fact that MIA tweeted her cell number is hilarious. The media thinks they can mold people into bit sized easy to swallow opinion and I praise MIA giving everyone a big sized FCK-U.

Exactly, sarcasm, people. And by the way, "a cheap swipe"? What's wrong with saying that Lady Gaga's music is not visionary? Isn't it the truth?

[quote=Paul Escobar]Are you people tone deaf? M.I.A. was being SARCASTIC. Roman Gavras made the "Born Free" video. In the same interview, M.I.A. clearly says that it was Gavras' vision that guided it. The part you're citing is a satircal comparison between her & Gaga. The point being, one is pop...and the other is straight up hardcore. You pop tarts never seem to amaze... That's exactly what I got from it as well. She was mocking the parralells between the too, These GAGA stans are frikken hilarious. Shes really taking them for a ride. I guess what she said in that interview is right. American's really don't have a sense of humour. Or are plain witless.

OK I love Lady Gaga but MIA is on to something. MIA is so original all her music, clothing and videos. It must suck for MIA to have Gaga market the "I'm so different" yet make unoriginal pop music to make a profit. MIA is truly different. Even with her success she hasn't tried to change her sound to sell and Gaga did if you read her bio. By the way if you see both videos they are completely different...she was being sarcastic.

[quote=Thanks MIA!]Thank you MIA! Its about time someone calls it like it is. Madonna is unique and made choices in her career to further women in the industry that almost destroyed her own career. Madonna was flawed but she came back every single time with a force so strong-she was unstoppable and still is to this day. Gaga may have some talent but she's no Queen of Pop at all. MIA is in her own way a force to not screw with either. She's tough and ballsy and has an opinion. Thats what counts. Lady Gaga is kinda boring when ya strip her down. ----------------------------- funny. Gaga never claimed to be the queen of pop. It's funny how MIA is using Madonna as a way to bash on Gaga cause she is a jealous bitter person. I am sure Madonna isn't very happy about it considering Madonna is a fan of Gaga's as well as Gaga loves Madonna. Gaga know's Madonna is the Queen of pop.. Lady Gaga may be boring to you but that is just your opinion.

m.i.a is a joke. she only hit the radar because paper planes was used in a bunch of movie trailers & overplayed on the radio. then she got knocked up & no one gave a crap about her anymore. shes just desperately trying to stay relevant anyway she can by talking crap. desperate and low. this "political" statement "music video" is just another thing to get attention. when push comes to shove, shes like the people she insults
