Michael Jackson Bill Shot Down In Congress

on Jul. 9, 2009 11:45 AM / 10 Comments

Not everyone is down with honoring the late King of Pop.

At Tuesday's public memorial service for Michael Jackson, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee informed the world that she had introduced a House resolution honoring the deceased singer for his humanitarian work.

However, at a news conference this morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi addressed Lee's proposal, which she says is bound to be "counterproductive."

Why would it be counterproductive? Pelosi reasons that, while "Michael Jackson was a great, great performer," a resolution "would open up two contrary views that are not necessary at this time to be expressed."

(On Tuesday, New York Rep. Peter King, who's called Jackson a "pervert, child molester, pedophile," in the days since Jackson's death, vowed on Tuesday to do "whatever I have to do" to block the resolution.)

Have your say in the comments section: Do you agree with Nancy Pelosi?

the united stated judicial system states, ' innocent until proven guilty.' so regardless of the accusations, Mr. Jackson is innocent under the law of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. very contradiction for the US senate to contradict the constitution and the basic foundation of this country. With that being said, ' Mr Jackson' should have a day of his own, for everyone to honor, 'The greatest entertainer to have ever lived.'

It is funny that the very people who try to act self righteous have skeletons of their own. At least Michael according to "their" laws was found not guilty. If this was elvis they would be all for the honoring day. People almost worship elvis and yet he too messed with drugs until his death.. I can't help but think race more than ethics is the issue here...

The man is dead folks. Last time I checked none of us are in the will or beneficiaries of his (brilliantly constructed) blind trust. Those who wish to remember him in their hearts may do so. The world is in a shambles. Our nation is in the throws of the greatest financial crises since 1929. People are losing jobs, homes, savings. Health care, like "good credit" no longer exists. Let's focus on the issues that are going to get us through the day and hopefully into a brighter future.

True: The winners in most controversies are usually lawyers and bankers. Let's not forget undertakers and plastic surgeons or the purveyors of so-called beauty products. If there is a way to make a buck somebody will find a way to do it. As for the judicial system? Corrupt like every other area of American life. Why should anyone be surprised?

That is true. But along with the forementioned crises we are experiencincing in our lives, we are also in crisis because we lost not only the greatest entertainer that ever lived, but also a gift from God. I say that because he was such a good humanitarian, helped the sick and poor people, especially the children. And one of the most beautiful qualities a that I loved about MJ was the fact that he was always mentioning that he helped thee children because he wanted to assimilate Jesus' way. He always said that the lord wants us not to be like children, but to be childlike, and that is what he was. And a human being like that does not come along every day. In fact, I don't think there will be another human being as good as MJ in my lifetime. To think, that everyone who spoke lies and negativity, especially the tabloids drove him to seek out drugs so that he can escape the destruction that they caused in his career with their lies and negativity, in doing that they also drove that meek and wonderful human being to an early grave. GONE TOO SOON!!!!!!!

If I were MJs family I would not tollerate the accustions the politician Rep PETER King is spewing about MJ. I would demand that he stop defaming a dead mans name, especially if MJ was aquitted of the so-called mmolestation charges both times. And if he would not desist in defaming his character, I would sue him for defaming the character of a deceased loved one. I don't know why this PETER KING is doing it, besides the fact that he is a racist, but enough is enough, And if any one of his family members really loved and cared about him, I would do something about stopping that man fromm defaming MJs character any longer.

RIP Michael. We love you and miss you. You should have your day, not only because you were the greatest singer/songwriter that ever lived, but also because of your humanitarian efforts. Don't foget people, Michael Jackson is in the Guiness book of World Records for how much he gave to sick kids and other charities. These are things he should be recognized for. We should remember the good times and good things Michael did, and let this be a lesson of how drugs can destroy a person.
