Michael Jackson Bill Shot Down In Congress

Jul 9, 2009 at 11:45am

Not everyone is down with honoring the late King of Pop.

At Tuesday’s public memorial service for Michael Jackson, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee informed the world that she had introduced a House resolution honoring the deceased singer for his humanitarian work.

However, at a news conference this morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi addressed Lee’s proposal, which she says is bound to be “counterproductive.”

Why would it be counterproductive? Pelosi reasons that, while “Michael Jackson was a great, great performer,” a resolution “would open up two contrary views that are not necessary at this time to be expressed.”

(On Tuesday, New York Rep. Peter King, who’s called Jackson a “pervert, child molester, pedophile,” in the days since Jackson’s death, vowed on Tuesday to do “whatever I have to do” to block the resolution.)

Have your say in the comments section: Do you agree with Nancy Pelosi?
