Michael Jackson's Doctor Ruled Out as Suspect

on Jun. 29, 2009 08:40 AM / 3 Comments

An attorney for Michael Jackson's live-in physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, claims that the Los Angeles Police Department has ruled out the possibility of wrongdoing on Murray's part in Jackson's death on Thursday, E! Online reports.

Moreover, the attorney, Edward M. Chernoff, says that, contrary to earlier suggestions, his client did not give or prescribe Demerol or Oxycontin to Jackson.

Chernoff says that Murray—who was present at the time of Jackson's death on Thursday—was questioned by cops for several hours on Saturday and was subsequently cleared of any suspicion.

"Investigators have made it clear...that Dr. Murray is considered to be a witness to the events surrounding Michael Jackson's death, and he is not a suspect," Chernoff asserts.

Chernoff also notes that his client was in the ambulance with Jackson during the trip from the singer's Holmby Hills residence to the UCLA Medical Center, and attempted to resuscitate him, to no avail.

"Dr. Murray rode with Michael Jackson to the hospital and made frantic attempts to revive him along the way," according to a statement fro Chernoff's law firm. "Dr. Murray considered himself to be a friend of Michael Jackson and he is very distraught over his death. He will continue to cooperate [with the investigation into Jackson's death] in every respect."
