Michelle’s Retro Red Carpet Return

May 23, 2008 at 2:31pm

Brokeback Mountain actress Michelle Williams made a spontaneous decision to attend the Cannes premiere of her film Wendy and Lucy. In the midst of shooting her scenes with Martin Scorsese on his movie, Shutter Island, Williams was able to take a quick 48-hour break to make an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.

A rep for Wendy and Lucy told People, “It was decided on Monday night that she could come to Cannes, and she got on the next plane to arrive just in time to get dressed and come to our premiere.”

It was Michelle’s first time treading the red carpet since the passing of her daughter Matilda‘s father, Heath Ledger. The glowing mother stepped out in a vintage Chanel Haute Couture gown.

Friday, the actress will also be promoting Charlie Kaufman‘s Synecdoche, New York, in which she also stars. Of her spur-of-the-moment multi-tasking Cannes visit, Michelle said, “It actually does feel kind of special to have two films at the same time.”
