Now that Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford has been confirmed for the male lead in the upcoming Footloose remake, it's time to nail down the female lead—and E! Online reports that Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus is in contention.
"They've expressed interest in Miley for the part," reveals a source close to Cyrus. Meanwhile, an insider for the production confirms that the 16-year-old "is definitely in the mix."
Cyrus will be facing some stiff competition for the part: Heroes' Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Bynes and Dancing With the Stars pro Julianne Hough have all auditioned for the part of the rebellious preacher's daughter, which was filled in the 1984 original by Lori Singer.
Hopefully the producers will have made their choice by next March, when the film is due to begin shooting.

No, I prefer Hayden or Amanda.
I think Julianne Hough would be a much better fit, but Amanda's good too. These are the two I can see pulling off the "rebellious preacher's daughter" role. Hayden? Not so much.

Miley for sure! i can see her playing the rebellious type of girl. plus she would look way better with chace then those girls, and everyones use to amanda being a comedian, and when she portrays a serious role, no one takes her seriously. i guess hayden would be KINDA good, but i can't see her in the movie, but i guess shes good.
Err no I don't think Miley looks too good with Chace! Julianne would fit the role the best I think! They'll also have GREAT chemistry together!
I think Miley is extremely talented for her age and really any age and she would do an incredible job. She has the pizazz and would certainly bring in a lot of fans and money to the production. perfect pick!
Amanda Bynes is cute and would be good for the role, but she can't sing, and we don't know if she can dance. Hough can dance, but I doubt if she can act at all, and she can't sing either. Hayden can't sing or dance. Miley can sing, dance and act...and she does all three better than anyone else. She would be perfect for the role. Plus she's cuter than anything...
