Is Miley Cyrus Getting Footloose?

Now that Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford has been confirmed for the male lead in the upcoming Footloose remake, it's time to nail down the female lead—and E! Online reports that Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus is in contention.

"They've expressed interest in Miley for the part," reveals a source close to Cyrus. Meanwhile, an insider for the production confirms that the 16-year-old "is definitely in the mix."

Cyrus will be facing some stiff competition for the part: Heroes' Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Bynes and Dancing With the Stars pro Julianne Hough have all auditioned for the part of the rebellious preacher's daughter, which was filled in the 1984 original by Lori Singer.

Hopefully the producers will have made their choice by next March, when the film is due to begin shooting.

I'd prefer Hollywood stop re-making old movies, cartoons, etc. They are never as good as the original.

Miley would be great! She can sing and act already. When i think of the other ones in the "mix". They can't do it all. Amanda was in Hairspray and they didn't make her sing or dance to much. Haydan, HELL TO THE NO. She would just be horrible, she really can't sing or dance or act for that matter. I can really see Hough acting either.

Miley has already proved she is a great dancer,singer, and given the chance,could do a great job in the role even bringing singing into it.

Miley too young 4 the role. She can't act sexy. She would look weird acting sexy.
Julianne would b perfect 4 the part, she can sing, dance n act, cute figure n is gorgeous. Got to look a little sassy, sexy, etc. Her n Chace would make the perfect couple. Both of them have beautiful eyes too.
