While a garden variety sensation might have yachted to St. Barth's or performed in New York City's Times Square on their New Year's Eve, Miley Cyrus spent her night rewarding a deserving young fan.

Cyrus, 16, trekked to Irvine, Calif. to surprise Alison Kaprielian, a student who won a Cyrus and MTV-sponsored competition for a holiday concert.

Kaprielian has spent her off-school hours promoting awareness for breast cancer treatment (her mother is a survivor). Also a major Miley fan, Alison spent the day getting makeovers for she and mom, and was even featured in one of Cyrus and best friend Mandy Jiroux's viral videos.

Cyrus performed a robust set at Kaprielian's own Beckman High School, followed by a "monster" surprise party with one last reveal: MTV and Miley brought in Alison's own best friend from Georgia.
