Mindy McCready Attempts Suicide

“Ten Thousand Angels” singer Mindy McCready sure could use an angel looking after her.

New York Daily News reports that the 33-year-old country singer was admitted to a Nashville-area hospital Wednesday morning after an apparent suicide attempt.

McCready, who is being treated for wounds to her wrists, was transported to the hospital by police and paramedics from a Nashville home she had been staying at.

“We responded to a ’10-63,’ that’s a suicidal person call. Mindy McCready was at the house,” Nashville Police Department spokeswoman Kris Mumford told reporters. “Apparently she called the mother of her roommate and said some things that caused the mother concern. She called authorities. We responded with paramedics, who took her to a local hospital.”

This is just the latest trouble to befall McCready—born Malinda Gayle McCready—this year.

In July, the “Guys Do It All the Time” singer was admitted to Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center on an alleged attempted suicide by mixing vodka and Ambien.

Upon release from Vanderbilt, she checked into rehab.

In September, McCready voluntarily surrendered to authorities to serve out a 60-day sentence for violating the terms of her parole involving a prescription-drug fraud charge in June. (The singer has faced a number of prosecutions, ranging from using a fake prescription to buy OxyContin to identity theft to battery.)

McCready’s romantic life is believed to be a contributing factor to her troubled state of mind. In April, news broke that she had been involved with Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens since 1991, when she was 15 and Clemens was a married father of two.

Soon thereafter she was questioned by the FBI about Clemens’ perjury investigation. (Clemens had testified to Congress that he had never used performance-enhancing drugs, contrary to claims made by his trainer, Brian McNamee.)

Hopefully, Mindy can find some peace and perspective, and the holidays will be a less troublesome time for her from here on.
