Miss California Carrie Prejean Finally Gets the Ax

Her controversial views on gay marriage couldn't take her down. Nor could a set of semi-nude photos that made their way onto the Internet.

But Miss California Carrie Prejean has finally lost her crown.

Fox News reports that, mere weeks after showing mercy on Prejean, Miss USA pageant head honcho Donald Trump has allowed her to be stripped of her title.

The reason: Prejean continually breached her contractual obligations.

"This was a business decision, based solely on contract violations," said Keith Lewis, executive director of K2 Productions, in documents obtained by Fox. "After our press conference in New York [in May, when Prejean was initially spared], we had hoped we would be able to forge a better working relationship. However, since that time it has become abundantly clear that Carrie has no desire to fulfill her obligations under our contract and work together.”

Despite his initial defense of Prejean, the Donald has given his blessings to the canning.

"I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California Organization and I gave her the opportunity to do so," Trump notes in the same documents. "Unfortunately it just doesn’t look like it is going to happen and I offered Keith my full support in making this decision."

The decision has already earned kudos from former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, who resigned her post as co-director of the Miss California USA organization after Prejean was initially kept on. (Prejean's comments on gay marriage had irked Moakler.) 

“First and foremost my faith has been restored in the Miss Universe Organization and with Donald Trump," Moakler notes in a statement to Web site the Dirty, which initially published the topless photos of Prejean. "I believed eventually what I intimately knew would come to fruition. Now that Carrie has been terminated from her position as Miss California, I would consider resuming my role and responsibilities with the pageant. It was hard for me to step down, but I felt what was happening was wrong and against what I felt was a proper guideline for our youth to follow.”

Prejean will be replaced by first runner-up Tami Farrell. K2 Productions will tap reigning Miss USA Kristen Dalton and Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza to fulfill the contractual obligations that Prejean failed to meet.
