Look out, world; Carrie Prejean says she's being persecuted!
Miss California Prejean—who caused a ruckus at this year's Miss USA competition by declaring her negative, "biblically correct" thoughts on gay marriage—says she's being targeted by foes who've attempted to sabotage her by leaking a topless photo of her onto the Internet.
"[M]y comments defending traditional marriage have led to intimidation tactics that seek to undermine my reputation and somehow silence me and my beliefs, as if opinion is only a one-way street," Prejean said in a statement on Tuesday, according to Us Magazine.
The picture, which was published on Web site The Dirty on Monday and show Prejean modeling as a teenager, was "released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith."
And besides, she adds, the photo is perfectly in line with her belief system, as she sees it. "I am a Christian, and I am a model," Prejean offers. "Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos."
Despite the "intolerant" and "offensive" attacks on her character, Prejean asserts that she will continue her crusade in defense of traditional marriage.
"If this whole experience has taught me anything," Prejean says, "it is our precious right to speak freely, and how we as Americans can never allow anyone or any group to intimidate or threaten us to keep silent."
The Man Upstairs might give the thumbs-up on Prejean's topless modeling photos, but the officials for the Miss USA pageant may be another matter.
"I can assure you they were quite inappropriate, and certainly not photos befitting a beauty queen," Alicia Jacobs, who sat on the judging panel for the April 19 competition that launched the whole controversy, asserts to NBC.
Have your say in the comments section: Is Prejean under unfair attack, and should she be dethroned because of her topless photo?

Carrie Prejean is a fake if not an absolute idiot. So, an underage privileged girl has nude photos taken and they are made public to "mock her Christian faith".
LOL -- Mocking her Christian faith? Well, none of my Christian friends go around posing nude (especially while underage).
Carrie Prejean is joke.
It's amazing -- the GOP put up a horrific mother with an underage teenage daughter that got knocked up outside of marriage. A model Christian?
It seems Christianity may be the fake. Is no one in the public authentic? Say you are Christian and somehow that becomes the truth?
What about morals -- Prejean IS NOT want I want my daughters to look up to. Simply Trash.
"as if opinion is only a one-way street" - I suppose it's fine for her beliefs to be a one way street - morally perfect without question - but no one can tell her she may be wrong? What a douche bag.
P.S. Christians love to say they're being persecuted. What BS, the biggest religion in the world is persecuted. Poor Christians.
Without question the attacks on Miss Prejean are predicated on her answer during the pageant... which incidentally reflected the views of the majority of Americans, President Obama and the U.S. Congress, and the clear majority of voters in California. She may have made bad modeling choices, but that does not invalidate her answer which was reasoned, fair and correct. These are simply attempts to undermine the message by attacking the messenger - a tact that would be dismissed in any collegiate debate as invalid.
Can someone take away her crown already so we can forget about this piece of white trash? Thank you.
whats the matter with you people? she gives an honest answer instead of a pre-programed one and you slam her for it. thats idiotic. you call her names and slam her religion. your are MUCH worse than she ever could be.
Sorry, I don't care how honest her answer was or what majority believes what. We are all supossed to be equal in this country, and it was not so long ago that a bigot could honestly answer that Black People should not be able to marry whites, or women should not have the right to vote. Just because the majority at the time would have agreed with them does not take away from the fact that they are un-american statements in their intent. This girl is a bigot, and I hope she enjoys some of the free speech coming back at her, and then I hope she takes her implants and goes home.
Christian leaders (Pastor King and others)led the fight for Civil Rights, led the way in the fight against the British slave trade, for abolition in the U.S., for women's suffrage and much more... These leaders were attacked and called names for taking moral stands, and today folks like Miss Prejean are similarly vilifed and called names. The Christian leaders who stood for justice in the past, would stand firmly with Miss Prejean in her defense of traditional marriage, and it is not incidental that each attack on Miss Prejean's views devolves into a personal attack. This echoes the experience of values advocates through the years...
is "model christian" synonymous with "model hypocrite?"
If she was only 17, where were the parents? Did they approved of her soft-porno spread?
If Miss Prejean loses her crown, no Christian can say that she lost it for her beliefs. That's ridiculous. Other pageant winners have lost their titles in similar situations, and their beliefs had nothing to do with it.
It is very hypocritical that someone so adoring of Christ and eager to socially regulate sexuality would exploit her own sexuality in such racy photographs. This violates the Christian idea that her body is a temple.
And please, don't align Carrie Prejean or anyone espousing her beliefs with great historical progressives. This is extremely misleading, here's why:
a) There were Christians on both sides of any of these movements. I can just as easily argue that there were Christians who argued that slavery was their right, claiming superiority and authority from the Bible. You can easily find this information. See? It's misleading in that you're implying that Christians have always been exclusively on the progressive side of history.
b) Also, Carrie Prejean, and those who share her beliefs, are not similar to the Christians who have historically backed progressive movements. As a matter of fact, she fits into the conservative "religious right" that emerged in the 1960s as a BACKLASH to progressive movements.
Do not put a pampered, privileged member of the mid to upper classes in the same category as those who fought, struggled and sacrificed for just causes. These words cannot express their valor, which Miss Prejean has not come close to.
She has "sacrificed" a crown. Though there isn't reasonable proof she even did that. I added this because someone MIGHT have the audacity to argue it, showing that they truly have no idea what sacrifice in the name of social justice is and has been HISTORICALLY.
Leave your misconceptions about history out of this. Carrie Prejean has been about as persecuted as Sean Penn, though I doubt Christians will like that comparison.
I'm straight and married, and gay marriage will not hurt my marriage. Congratulations to all who find Carrie Prejean to be an outrage and a nuisance. Congratulations to anyone who holds the teachings of Christ about treating others with love and humanity higher than those who wish to intertwine church and state.
