If only all of life could go so smoothly as actress Natalie Portman gliding across the slick surface of Wollman Ice Rink in New York City's Central Park.

Harvard-educated Portman, 27, strapped on her skates for filming of the upcoming Love and Other Impossible Pursuits. Directed by Don Roos and costarring Scott Cohen and Charlie Tahan, the movie is based upon a novel of the same name by Ayelet Waldman.

Natalie plays a young woman who tries to salvage her rocky marriage by bonding with her smarty-pants stepson.

The Star Wars princess could not have picked a project with a better title. It's been two months since Portman was reported to have broken up with acid-folksinger boyfriend Devendra Banhart, also 27. The Jerusalem-born Portman doesn't appear to be any closer to finding a new love.

Her past romantic links include Jake Gyllenhaal, Zach Braff and Gael Garcia Bernal.

With a history of pedigrees like that, why should she be in any hurry?  Someone great is bound to show up with her next spin around the rink.
