Natalie Portman's career is about to take a heroic turn. A super-heroic turn.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the V for Vendetta actress has signed on as the female lead in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Marvel Comics' Thor.

Portman will be portraying Jane Foster, a nurse who became Thor's first love in the comic-book series. According to the studio, the character will be updated for the movie. Earlier reports noted that Jessica Biel was up for the female lead in the film.

Chris Hemsworth, recently of Star Trek, will star in the title role of the Kenneth Branaugh-directed flick, which is slated for a May 20, 2011 U.S. release.

im happy with the choice of Thor but not with the choice of Jane Foster, Jessica Biel wouldve been a more appropriate actress

I wonder how her hammering skills are.

I love Natalie Portman. I wish Brad Pitt was playing Thor though.

It works better for Portman to play opposite Thor. Thor is a huge God-like man. You put a tall chick like Biel next to him and he no longer looks impressive.

I still think Alexander Skarsgard should have got the part of thor!
