Natalie Portman Joins ‘Thor’ Cast

Natalie Portman‘s career is about to take a heroic turn. A super-heroic turn.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the V for Vendetta actress has signed on as the female lead in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Marvel Comics’ Thor.

Portman will be portraying Jane Foster, a nurse who became Thor’s first love in the comic-book series. According to the studio, the character will be updated for the movie. Earlier reports noted that Jessica Biel was up for the female lead in the film.

Chris Hemsworth, recently of Star Trek, will star in the title role of the Kenneth Branaugh-directed flick, which is slated for a May 20, 2011 U.S. release.
