Natasha Richardson Died From "Blunt Impact"

Natasha Richardson Died From

Natasha Richardson's cause of death was found to be "blunt impact to the head" brought on by falling while skiing, according to the New York City medical examiner's office.

The autopsy on the actress was performed today, after she was taken off life support and died Wednesday evening.

The exact cause of death was said to be "epidural hematoma due to blunt impact to the head," which caused bleeding between the skull and the brain's covering.

The Associated Press spoke with Dr. Keith Siller of New York University Langone Medical Center, who said that Richardson's injury was "a very treatable condition if you're aware of what the problem is and the patient is quickly transferred to a hospital. But there is very little time to correct this."

Richardson, 45, tumbled on a beginners trail Monday at the Mont-Tremblant ski resort near Montreal. She was taking a private ski lesson.

Reports indicate that Richardson believed she was fine after the fall, and refused the first ambulance that arrived.

Richardson began complaining that she didn't feel well an hour later and was rushed to the hospital.

The staff at the resort issued a statement that said that Mont-Tremblant "intends to fully cooperate with any resulting investigations. Out of respect for the family, and their request for privacy, we will not comment further."
