The 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival officially got underway this past Wednesday and things are already heating up at the ultra-glam festival. Let’s round-up the highlights–shall we? Here are 5 things that went down at Cannes this past week:

1. The Great Gatsby got the party started. The film got the coveted Opening Ceremony premiere spot and kicked everything off in style.

2. Speaking of… Carey Mulligan schooled everyone on the art of the festival red carpet. Her Cannes choices have seriously been on point thus far.

3. Sofia Coppola‘s much anticipated Emma Watson vehicle, The Bling Ring, made it’s debut. The early reviews are in and they’re mixed, but on the positive side.

4. Quelle horreur! A million-dollar jewelry heist went down. Super pricy designer jewelry from Chopard was stolen from a company employee’s room at the Novotel Cannes Montfleury Hotel.

5. Gunshots were heard and jury member Christoph Waltz was rushed off stage. According to The Hollywood Reporter, panic ensued when gunfire was heard before a broadcast of the entertainment program, Le Grand Journal. Everyone is safe, the shots were blanks, and a suspect has been apprehended.

6. Cindy Crawford is 47 and she’s still smokin’ hot.

Carey Mulligan had somewhat of a Gwyneth Paltrow moment (the good, pre-goop kind) at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of The Great Gatsby on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Oscar nominee stunned in a backless pink gown by Dior that harkened back to the Ralph Lauren gown Paltrow wore to the ’99 Oscars. Show-stopping on a Wednesday — not bad, considering Gatsby was nowhere near as good.

Cannes is officially underway and it all kicked-off with a little indie we’ve never heard of already mega-hit starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, The Great Gatsby.

Ms. Mulligan was stylin’ in a Balenciaga by Alexander Wang LBJ (little black jumpsuit, it’s a thing) at her photocall and she stunned in a long white dress and a sleek ‘do for the night’s big premiere. Her co-star Leo didn’t look too shabby either–nobody wears a goatee/mustache beard combo like Mr. DiCaprio. Isla Fisher was a vision in white lace Dolce & Gabbana. Later, at the evening’s Opening Ceremony, she pulled out all the stops in a red hot number.

Looks like this cast’s fashionable red carpet getups will be hard to top.

Cannes officially kicks off tomorrow and the stars are already arriving in France for the big film festival.

Celebs like Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio are just a few of the folks who have touched down ahead of their big premieres. We can’t wait to see more arrivals for the star-studded event.

On the even of fashion’s biggest night, Carey Mulligan attended a pre-Met Ball screening of her newest movie, The Great Gatsby.

Joining Mulligan at the MOMA in New York City were Emma Roberts, Mark Sanchez and former Downton Abbey star, Dan Stevens.

Mulligan told the latest issue of Flaunt magazine that she was scared out of her knickers to take on the iconic role of Daisy Buchanan.

“This ‘Gatsby’ project inspires so much anger or passion from people,” the Oscar nominee said.  ”Even British people don’t get upset if you mess up an Austen adaptation, ‘Oh that’s fine, we’ve all done it.’ But in America it’s like, ‘Don’t f–k with Fitzgerald.’”

Baz Luhrmann‘s adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel opens this Friday.

Once again, the celebrities came crawling out of their oversized mansions this week to attend film premieres, events and everything else that celebrities do during the week. And once again, they looked really good.

Granted, nobody quite hit it out of the park the way Jessica Paré did last week; but these 10 looks still had us wishing we were rich and famous and all that fun stuff.

Looking good, Hollywood moms!

Following a packed vacation with the Kardashian-Jenner clan in Greece, Kourtney Kardashian, Scott Disick and their adorable children Penelope and Mason returned stateside on Wednesday, touching down at Los Angeles International Airport.

Speaking of airports, Halle Berry kept a low profile as she landed at LAX on a flight from Canada. The 46-year-old actress, who is pregnant with her second child (her first with fiance Olivier Martinez), covered up her baby bump in a grey cardigan during the outing.

Elsewhere on the west coast, Jennifer Garner was spotted with her middle child Seraphina while out on a breakfast date in Santa Monica, Calif.

Over in New York, Olivia Wilde was a vision in floral green as she hit the red carpet for the Whitney Museum’s Annual Art Party, Katy Perry rubbed shoulders with Vera Wang at the 2013 Delete Blood Cancer Gala and Reese Witherspoon looked lovely in purple as she went on Good Morning America to set the record straight about her recent arrest.

Jay Gatsby would have loved this party.

New York City was extra glamorous on Wednesday as the stars came out for the world premiere of The Great Gatsby.

The lavish affair, held at Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, welcomed the likes of the film’s leads Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher, as well as the soundtrack’s mega producer Jay-Z.

All week, director Baz Luhrmann and company have been hitting up the talk show circuit and events in support of the movie based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic.

The Great Gatsby opens nationwide on May 10 and will also open the 66th Cannes Film Festival on May 15.

In these techy days of cell phones, email, and text messaging, traditional letters seem to be hopelessly left in the dust.

That is, unless you’re Daniel Day-Lewis.

In the latest Harper’s Bazaar, British actress Carey Mulligan tells a tale of how the Oscar winner put pen to paper to compose her a heartfelt message after the two met at the British Independent Film Awards a few years back.

“He wrote me this beautiful handwritten note a couple of weeks afterwards just saying how nice it was to meet me and that he’d like An Education,” she recalled in the glossy’s June issue, which she covers in a classic style and grace.

Mulligan has worshiped Day-Lewis even since her grade-school days at Woldingham, the girls boarding school she attended in Surrey, England. As an aspiring actress testing the thespian waters, she played John Proctor in the school production of The Crucible, the very same part helmed by Day-Lewis in the 1996 film adaptation of the classic play.

So when Mulligan received a special piece of snail mail from her acting hero, she was sure to cherish it.

“His penmanship was beautiful,” she added. “The note was the most beautiful thing. If my house was burning down I would save that. It is so precious.”

With the May release of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby just around the corner,  a true “Summer of Gatsby” is upon us.  But the movie, and its distinct high style – is also arriving just as the seductive and glamorous fashion of the 1920’s would seem to be having its moment.

Carey Mulligan divided critics Thursday night when she arrived to the Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Ball looking a little, uh, severe.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who stars in May’s The Great Gatsby, wore a half-cape, half-tuxedo blazer of sorts by Victoria Beckham. What she didn’t wear, though, was any makeup, which made this red-carpet risk all the riskier.

In hindsight, the look was actually pretty cool, in that Tilda Swinton kind of way. It’s just hard to figure out what to make of it, since Mulligan wouldn’t even smile for the cameras.

Also at the event were the more traditionally dressed Kate Hudson, Jessica Biel, Michelle Williams and the country’s most-hated celebrity, Gwyneth Paltrow.

Gisele Bundchen, Bar Refaeli, Erin Heatherton… Leonardo DiCaprio has had his fair share of beautiful women over the years.

But at 38-years-old he’s still very much single and now he’s confessed to Esquire magazine that work might just be the reason.

“Six months of being on location or being off in Morocco or some place like that is not the best thing for a relationship,” he told the May issue.

DiCaprio, who has been nominated for an Oscar three times without ever striking gold, is about to hit the road again to promote Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby.

Despite being at the top of the Hollywood food chain for more than 16 years, the L.A.-born actor still takes nothing for granted.

“And so you have to understand – getting your foot in the door is like winning the lottery. It’s literally like winning the lottery if you get to have a career,” he added.

“I’ve always felt, Okay, now I’ve gotten this shot, and I’m lucky to have gotten this shot, and if I don’t do this to the best of my ability.

“If I don’t work my a** off and make a life of it — I’ve squandered this incredibly golden opportunity. And that’s always been what has propelled me.’

The star announced recently that he was going to take a break from movies after working on Django Unchained, the The Great Gatsby  and Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street back-to-back-to-back.

The actor became a heartthrob at age 22 when he starred in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet and Titanic, but admits he struggled to cope with his newfound fame and success.

“I really didn’t understand what fame was and I didn’t understand what being in a giant hit was and I didn’t understand what a giant hit Titanic was compared to other giant hits,” he told the magazine.

“Most recently, in the last few years, I feel way more comfortable than I’ve ever felt.”

The Great Gatsby, which also stars Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire, opens across America on May 10.

And who knows — now that he has more time on his hands maybe Leo might settle down?

Oscar-nominated actress Carey Mulligan is on the cover of the May issue of Vogue, in character as Daisy Buchanan, whom she plays in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming film The Great Gatsby. Mulligan looks fantastic as a ’20s Long Island socialite, wearing an assortment of gowns and fascinators.

Daisy Buchanan is one of literature’s most loved and loathed characters — a fact Mulligan acknowledges in the photo shoot’s accompanying article.

“I’m fully prepared to be completely ripped apart,” Mulligan tells Vogue. “Well, I’m not prepared; that’s the thing. I don’t want to be torn apart. We’ve all just tried something; we had fun, and we tried to do something interesting and exciting, something that people could connect with.”

Mulligan adds she drew inspiration for the role from Ginevra King and Zelda Fitzgerald, a mistress and the wife of Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald, respectively. She also compares Daisy to a modern clan of similarly divisive characters:

“‘I seem always curiously interested in myself, and it’s so much fun to stand off and look at me. . . .’ That’s a direct Zelda quote. It’s that kind of feeling: I’m-so-little-and-there’s-nothing-to-me, watch-me-have-nothing-to-me. She feels like she’s living in a movie of her own life. She’s constantly on show, performing all the time. Nothing bad can happen in a dream. You can’t die in a dream. She’s in her own TV show. She’s like a Kardashian.”

On the big screen, Mulligan has laid relatively low since starring in Drive, opposite Ryan Gosling, and Shame, opposite Michael Fassbinder, in 2011.

However, her personal life kicked into full-gear in 2012 when she married Marcus Mumford, the lead singer of the Grammy-winning band Mumford & Sons.

“It’s unsettling that you get exactly what you wanted. Not like some version of it, not a slightly lesser version of it, but exactly. You’re like: This is weird. It is weird,” she tells Vogue.

The Great Gatsby hits theaters nationwide on May 10. It will also open the Cannes Film Festival on May 15.

Based on the trailers so far, it’s likely to be just as polarizing as Daisy Buchanan herself.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan tease a little more drama in the latest trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby,’ released Thursday by Warner Bros.

But it’s the soundtrack that winds up being the real star of the three-minute clip, thanks to new music from Lana Del Ray, Florence + The Machine, Beyonce Knowles and Andre 3000.

As reported Tuesday, Knowles — who also teased a new song (or a Pepsi commercial, anyway, ugh) on Thursday — and Andre 3000 are covering the late Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” for the movie, out May 10.

“It’s a very different take on ‘Back to Black,’” a record industry insider told E! News at the time.

Over the weekend, Warner Bros. unleashed six new character posters from the upcoming big screen version of The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the title character.

The Baz Lurhmann film will mark the sixth time the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic has been transformed into movie form.

Jay-Z will produce and perform on the movie’s soundtrack, which itself is also one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

Earlier this week, the film debuted its first TV spot, featuring new clips and voiceovers from Gatsby and company.

Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Joel Edgerton also star in the film.

The Great Gatsby opens on May 10 and will also open the 66th Cannes Film Festival in France.

Target’s latest designer collaboration doesn’t officially hit stores until next week, but it already has more than a few famous fans — and many of them were on-hand to celebrate the collection’s launch at a blowout bash in New York City last night.

There aren’t many up-and-coming designers who have the honor of being the guest of honor at one of New York Fashion Week’s hottest parties. But then again, there aren’t many designers like Prabal Gurung.

Ever since launching his own collection in 2009, the former Bill Blass designer — whose fans include everyone from Kate Middleton and Michelle Obama to Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga and Amanda Seyfried – has been a red carpet favorite, with a following as diverse as it is famous. So it’s no surprise that a bevy of fashion A-listers and celebs came out to fete the talented designer with a one-of-a-kind celebration.

Not just your typical fashion launch party (think: cocktails, photos and air kissing), fashion and film’s finest, including Carey Mulligan, Rashida Jones, Olivia Thirlby and Elizabeth Olsen, celebrated Gurung’s new Target collection with a carnival.

Yep, you read that right — a carnival. And we were on-hand to witness the real-life carnival set in the middle of Manhattan, complete with rides, cotton candy, fortune tellers and more.

Did we mention the star-studded fashion festival included a performance by Ne-Yo? Oh, and the chance to shop the collection before it hits stores on Feb. 10.

Joel and Ethan Coen are at it again — this time with the help of some of Hollywood’s most good looking actors.

Inside Llewyn Davis, the Coen brothers’ love letter to New York City’s folk music scene in the ‘60s, borrows a few narratives from Dave Van Ronk’s memoir The Mayor of MacDougal Street.

In the film’s first trailer, unleashed this week, viewers meet Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac), a struggling songwriter hailing from the streets of Greenwich Village. Along the way, he meets a character played by John Goodman, gets a nasty safe sex tutorial from his ladylove Carey Mulligan (and her once again impressive American accent) and gets driven around by Garrett Hedlund — who is still displaying hints of his character from On the Road. It’s the jean jacket.

Justin Timberlake, Ethan Phillips and Girls’ star Adam Driver also appear in the film.

Inside Llewyn Davis, distributed by Paramount Pictures, has yet to receive a release date. This is the first picture from the Coen brothers since 2010’s award-winning Western, True Grit.

Just like the rest of the world, love makes the Hollywood go round.

This year had no shortage of romance among the stars. From Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel saying “I do” under the stars in Southern Italy, to Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively secretly getting hitched on a sprawling Southern plantation, many buzzed-about celebrity couples found their happily-ever-after in 2012.

Even some of the industry’s most beloved golden girls turned bridal. Natalie Portman tied the knot with her Benjamin Millepied in a traditional Jewish ceremony in Big Sur, Calif., where Anne Hathaway also walked down the aisle at sunset to wed Adam Shulman.

Drew Barrymore vowed for forever with Will Kopleman at her Montecito, Calif. estate, while Carey Mulligan took the plunge with Mumford & Sons musician Marcus Mumford in the countryside of Somerset, England.

But wedded bliss didn’t bless everyone, with many longtime lovers calling it quits in 2012. After almost seven years of marriage, Heidi Klum and Seal announced their separation in January before officially filing for divorce three months later.

Parting ways after five wedded years, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes — long labeled Tomkat — reached a surprisingly speedy divorce settlement after just 11 days in July, with the actress receiving primary custody of the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Suri.

But not all of Hollywood’s bitter breakups stuck. Back in July, Kristen Stewart was infamously snapped smooching her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, seemingly ruining her three-year relationship with Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson. But Twihard broken hearts were soon on the mend, as Stewart and Pattinson were spotted canoodling in Los Angeles, Calif., in October.

Move over Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson is getting a new leading lady.

As The Twilight Saga is coming to an end, the 26-year-old actor is signing on to star alongside fellow Brit Carey Mulligan in Hold On to Me, according to Deadline.

The movie — directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker James Marsh — revolves around the true story of a femme fatale who, along with her boyfriend, kidnaps the town’s richest man for ransom. Pattinson will play the supporting role of Jimmy, the woman’s life love who isn’t involved in the crime.

Hold On to Me is Pattinson’s third post-Twilight saga project. The actor is will also appear alongside Guy Pearce in the David Michod-directed The Rover and star in Mission Blacklist, a true story of the U.S. military interrogator responsible for discovering the location of Saddam Hussein.

Pattinson is currently on the first leg of his global Breaking Dawn – Part 2 promotional tour. As his co-star — and on-and-off girlfriend — Stewart promotes the film in Japan, the British heartthrob will be attending press events in Australia.

The couple will be reunited for joint press junkets starting Sunday with a red carpet appearance at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater for the world premiere of the final Twilight installment on Nov. 12.
