Somewhere in the world, Taylor Swift is doing her infamous “surprised face” as she leads the Billboard Music Awards 2013 nominations with a whopping 11 nods.

Tied for the lead with fellow finalists Maroon 5 and Fun., the “22″ crooner is nominated for a plethora of titles, including Best Artist, Best Billboard 200 Album, Top Female Artist, Best Billboard 200 Artist, Best Digital Song Artist, Best Social Artist and Best Country Artist.

Closely following Swift are Rihanna and Carly Rae Jepsen with 10 and 9 nods respectively.

Hosted by former 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan, the ceremony air live on ABC from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand on May 19.

Banks plays Miss Burke, who’s trying to win over her crush, Mr. Zigfield (played by Alfonso Ribeiro), with the help of CeCe (Bella Thorne) and Rocky (Zendaya). And in an added bonus, Carly Rae Jepsen also guest stars on the episode as herself and performs with CeCe.

This is also a TV reunion for Banks and Ribeiro.

Ribeiro played Carlton on the 90s NBC sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Well, Banks appeared on the series as Will Smith‘s girlfriend. The two were goofing around on the Shake It Up set, while Ribeiro doubled as the episode’s director.

Musicians were warned about showing too much skin, and for the most part, the stars seemed to stick to the code. Even Rihanna’s Azzedine Alaia gown was relatively subdued despite its sheer detailing.

The skin that we did see, however, was absolutely flawless. Jennifer Lopez’ complexion couldn’t have been more gorgeous. Fortunately she wore her hair pulled back tight into a severe topknot so we got the full view.

Aside from J. Lo and Taylor Swift, who wore a braided updo at the beginning of the night, most of the Grammy’s guests wore their hair down. Was there a shortage of hair pins in LA this weekend? Or maybe it was the edgy vibe at the show. A structured updo seems more appropriate for the Oscars, while loose hair is better suited for jamming out to Bruno Mars and Sting.

If they spent less time on their hair, celebs lingered a bit longer in the manicure chair. Nail art was huge—Carly Rae Jepsen and Janelle Monae both had bejeweled digits.

But not all stars went all out with their nails. Swift admitted that she did her own nails just moments before heading to the red carpet, but we’ll give her a pass considering she opened the show and probably had bigger things on her mind.

The story of how Carly Rae Jepsen made it big is a well-known one. Phenom Justin Bieber heard her infectious song, “Call Me Maybe,” on the radio while home in Canada and signed her to his label shortly thereafter.

But not everyone has heard the story straight from Jepsen herself.

Celebuzz has an exclusive clip of the pop star talking about her rise to the top on an upcoming episode of MTV’s This Is How I Made It.

“I remember getting a hysterical phone call from my younger sister Katie who was like, ‘Justin Bieber! He tweeted your song!,’” she recalls in the clip. “I was like ‘Calm down, what’s going on?’ and I went and checked it out and she was right – he had.”

“’Call Me Maybe’ had been playing on the radio for a little bit at this point,” she continued. “It had been mingling in the top 11 on iTunes within Canada and it had no life anywhere else. And Justin comes home and tweets about it and within a day it’s at No. 1 and that really was my big break.”

Jepsen was the first artist signed to Bieber’s label, School Boy Records, in early 2012.

“I got a call from my manager who said, ‘You’re not going to believe this, but I got a call from Scooter Braun and Justin Bieber and they’re considering starting a label and they want you to be the first official artist that they sign,” she said. “Then Justin Bieber announced it on MuchMusic. As soon as it went that public, I got a swarm of phone calls from all my friends and family with everyone just being like ‘What is happening to your life?’ and I was like ‘I have no idea but it’s pretty cool.’”

When putting together a list of the best and worst songs of 2012, it’s impossible not to think of Carly Rae Jepsen’s breakthrough pop hit “Call Me Maybe.”

Unlike 2011, which rightfully belonged to British songstress Adele and her smash album 21, 2012 was the year of singles. Arguably the catchiest song of 2012, “Call Me Maybe” was a perfectly crafted pop song from a little-known Canadian artist. It was universal; everyone — from celebrities to Olympic athletes and university students — was a fan. Even self-absorbed hipsters found themselves singing along — unironically! — to the viral hit.

It’s no wonder Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” leads the pack in Celebuzz’s list of the Best Songs of 2012. And don’t worry, Directioners, we didn’t forget One Direction.

However, not every song was a universal hit this year. In fact, many songs fell flat. From the played-out shenanigans of LMFAO and their party rocking to Gotye’s own viral hit “Somebody That I Used to Know,” these are just a few of our  picks for the year’s worst. And please, don’t even get us started on Flo Rida’s “Whistle.”

The music industry waited with bated breath Wednesday night to hear the 55th Annual Grammy Awards nominations. And as names were announced in the live event held in Nashville, Tenn., this year’s crop of nominees celebrated — on Twitter.

Indie-pop trio Fun. nabbed six nods, making the cut for the four general Grammy categories: new artist, album of the year for their Some Nights, and record and song for its chart-blazing hit with soul singer Janelle Monae, “We Are Young.” The artists shared their delight on Twitter, writing, “Unreal night. Thank you for listening.”

Five other acts led the pack with newcomers Fun.: R&B breakout star Frank Ocean, English rock band Mumford & Sons, rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West, and the Black Key’s Dan Auerbach each earned six nominations, too.

While some slammed the Grammys for snubs — Justin Bieber‘s manager said they “blew it” by not honoring the teen pop phenom — other rejoiced in their hard-earned recognition on Twitter.

Frank Ocean might be having a glass of celebratory champagne right about now to celebrate his six Grammy nominations, but not every artist was so lucky.

Carly Rae Jepsen seemed like a shoo-in for Best New Artist. So why did the Recording Academy leave her off the final list?

Sure, “Call Me Maybe” was nominated for some big prizes, including Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, but Jepsen failed to get a Best New Artist nod, which may imply that Grammy voters don’t expect her to stick around.

Meanwhile, her mentor Justin Bieber was completely snubbed by the Academy when his album Believe failed to score any nominations. “This time there wont be any wise words, no excuses, I just plain DISAGREE,” his manager Scooter Braun tweeted. “The kid deserved it. Grammy board u blew it on this one.”

Then there was Nicki Minaj, whose genre-crossing album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, was overlooked in both the pop and rap categories. It looks like for Grammy voters, sometimes less is more.

As for One Direction, the British boy band was snubbed in the Best New Artist category, despite past boy bands — like the Jonas Brothers and Backstreet Boys — scoring a nomination years prior.

Taylor Swift looked absolutely stunning on Thursday as she attended the 2012 ARIA Awards in Sydney, Australia. The 22-year-old country crooner, who donned a white Elie Saab gown, performed her hit “I Knew You Were Trouble,” before hopping on a plane back to America.

The following day, Swift was spotted arriving at LAX in a plaid shirt, jeans and a pair of shades.

Across the Pond, Pippa Middleton bundled up for the winter weather while en route to catch a train at St. Pancras Station. The 29-year-old party planner stayed warm in a long coat, black boots and a purple scarf.

Stateside, Katy Perry was a vision in red at the Billboard Women in Music Awards held in Los Angeles. The “California Dreams” singer was crowned as “Woman of the Year.”

“I’d thought my year was over, that it was time to pass the baton. But I guess I get to hold onto it until the end of the year. It’s truly a lovely compliment. Seeing who has been honored in the past — Beyonce, Taylor Swift and others — I’m in good company,” Perry told Billboard this week.

Meanwhile, Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds were spotted touching down at the airport in London. The two have yet to make a joint red carpet public appearance since tying the knot in September.

The singer is officially 27 today, and in honor of her big day, Celebuzz is taking a look back at Jepsen’s evolution from pre-teen to red carpet glamorous.

Most recently at the 2012 American Music Awards, Jepsen ditched the leggings and colorful accessories for a form-fitting, sequin-embellished halter dress by Gomez Gracia. And there wasn’t a chunky bangle in sight!

The 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards are underway!

Taylor Swift, Heidi Klum, Alicia Keys and Carly Rae Jepsen are just a few of the many famous faces that have arrived for the musical gathering, taking place at the Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany.

Hosted by rapper Ludacris, the EMAs will feature performances by Swift, No Doubt, Pitbull, The Killers and South Korean sensation Psy.

Rihanna, who just performed on Saturday Night Live, leads with six nominations, while Swift is close behind with five.

The 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards will air in the U.S. on MTV2 at 11PM ET/PT tonight.

What’s the perfect complement to a plate of turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce? A festive side of Carly Rae Jepsen, of course.

The “Call Me Maybe” singer is just one of the pop stars set to appear during the 86th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. As millions tune across America, the Today show’s Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie will host the world-famous spectacle’s festivities, which will include boyband The Wanted, rapper Flo Rida, pop-rockers Neon Trees, singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat, pop duo Karmin and many more in its star-studded lineup.

“Since the first broadcast in 1948, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has become a tradition for families across America,” said Doug Vaughan, Senior Vice President of NBC’s Special Programs and Late Night, in a press release. “This year we are thrilled to once again celebrate with some of the nation’s best performers.”

Marching down Broadway in Manhattan on Nov. 22, the parade will kick of the holiday season with plenty of giant bouncing balloons, built-up floats, marching bands, cheerleaders and the one-and-only Santa Claus.

In addition to the pop artists, the revelry will also feature on-the-street performances from some of Broadway’s top musicals, such as Annie, Bring It On, Cinderella, and Elf. Additional big names slated to appear include Jimmy Fallon & The Roots, Whoopi Goldberg, Sandra Lee, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and classic acts like the Big Apple Circus and the Radio City Rockettes.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air Thursday, Nov. 22, on NBC from 9AM – 12 PM, all time zones.

From talk show duties to red carpet affairs, there was plenty of star action around the world in the last 24 hours.

On Thursday night, Carly Rae Jepsen paid a visit to the Late Show with David Letterman, serving as the episode’s musical guest.

The 26-year-old Canadian singer sparkled in a black-and-grey blazer, which draped over a leopard print top and bejeweled skirt.

Elsewhere in the Big Apple, Renee Zellwegger turned heads in a Carolina Herrerra dress at a fashion event at Cipriani Wall Street. The 43-year-old actress mingled with fellow fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker, who donned a colorful L’Wren Scott number.

On the West Coast, Julianne Hough stunned head-to-toe in blue at the Samsung Galaxy Note II launch party in L.A. The Rock of Ages star celebrated the new product with a slew of other famous faces that included Liam Hemsworth, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Octavia Spencer.

Off the red carpet, airport fashion was in full force, as Bar Refaeli and Kelly Osbournewere spotted at Berlin-Tegel International and Heathrow, respectively.

Even Carly Rae Jepsen isn’t immune to Bieber Fever.

The 26-year-old “Call Me Maybe” singer and her 18-year-old mentor, Justin Bieber, got a little too close for Selena Gomez’s comfort on stage Wednesday night in their native Canada. The two held hands and danced closely while performing their duet, “Beautiful” — which was featured on Jepsen’s debut album, Kiss – for thousands of screaming Beliebers.

Of course, the song is about falling in love, so perhaps the two were just getting into character. Not to mention, Jepsen seems pretty content with her new beau.

The singer recently told People that her new boyfriend, singer-songwriter Matthew Koma, is a ”really great guy and really talented.” And the 26-year-old says that when it comes to men, she really prefers those with a bit of certainty.

“I really like guys who have confidence, but not the cocky over-the-top confidence,” she said. “Guys with the right type of confidence are really sexy.”

Jepsen began dating Koma, 25, in August, and it’s pretty safe to say that the couple’s relationship didn’t start with the words, “Call me maybe.”

In a July interview with the Associated Press, Jepsen admitted that she had never given a guy her number. “I’ve done brave things for love before or for the possibility of the idea of love, but I’ve never quite done that,” she said. “And I’m pretty sure now that I never can because that would be really, really awkward.”

Jepsen is currently opening for Bieber on the North American leg of his Believe tour.

Remember when “Call Me Maybe” was the song you couldn’t get out of your head? With one of the catchiest hooks in pop music history, Carly Rae Jepsen’s debut single shot straight to the top of the Hot 100.

Now, PSY’s “Gangnam Style” is following a similar chart trajectory — and Jepsen, 26, couldn’t be happier for the South Korean artist, who just so happens to also be her label mate on Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy Records.

“I’m so excited [for him],” Jepsen told Celebuzz on the red carpet for Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Stars Saturday night. “I want to learn the dance from him. Scooter [Braun] has promised me that I’m going to learn from the pro himself!”

What else did Jepsen dish?

The  singer, who is currently touring with her mentor Justin Bieber on the North American leg of his Believe tour, says she’s excited to finally sing some of her other songs live.

The 26-year-old pop star recently dropped her debut album Kiss, and she can’t wait to release her second single, “This Kiss.” You can watch the music video teaser for the track here. But what track does Jepsen hope to make her third single?

“There’s a song called ‘Tonight I’m Getting Over You’ — that’s a really special one,” she says.

With lyrics like, “We’re not lovers, but more than friends/ Put our flame to every single word you ever said/ No more crying, to get me through/ I keep dancing til the morning with somebody new,” it looks like Jepsen’s favorite track could replace Taylor Swift‘s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” as 2012′s biggest breakup anthem.

In the space of a few weeks, the South Korean rapper has gone from zero to nearly 300 million “likes,” making his clip the most popular YouTube video of all time.

Is there a formula for using viral video and social media to become a pop star? Not necessarily; as Psy’s oddball, largely Korean-language clip proves, there’s no telling what the public will embrace. Still, there are a few concrete steps you can take. As Psy, Jepsen, and other viral stars have discovered, one of those steps is befriending Justin Bieber.

What else does it take to become a social media singing star? Here are some of the steps.

1. Be original. “There’s no formula,” Hollywood Reporter Music Editor Shirley Halperin told Celebuzz. “Once it’s been done, there’s a challenge to find the next cool thing.” Of “Gangnam Style,” she noted, “The foreignness makes it really attractive because it’s a culture with which we’re not really familiar.” The novelty factor has been turning YouTube stars into viral hitmakers at least since OK Go’s treadmill dance on 2006′s “Here It Goes Again,” Halperin said. It worked for Jepsen, too, with “Call Me Maybe”‘s narrative clip about an endearingly awkward girl (Jepsen) trying to catch a guy’s attention, only to have him give his number to one of her male bandmates.

2. But not too original. Pop duo Karmin rose to fame on the strength of its videos of cover versions of current hits. With an eye toward what was trending in Google searches, the band’s carefully tagged videos became hits among viewers looking for familiar songs. “We were uploading originals at first,” Karmin’s Nick Noonan told Forbes. “No one was watching them.”

3. Have a Danceable Beat. Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” seems custom-built for dancefloor fun, from its almost percussive string hook to its chorus about a gal giving a guy she just met her phone number. Same with “Gangnam Style,” featuring the kind of moves that could launch a new dance craze. “When it first came out, I think the big discussion among insiders was, is it the dance or the song? The video or the music? The consensus was that it was the dance, the look, the visuals, that made it just so much fun to watch,” Halperin said. “The other thing is that it reminded me right away of MC Hammer’s ‘U Can’t Touch This.’ We forget how huge that was. The album sold 18 million copies. That and the Macarena are big records because people can dance to them. So ['Gangnam Style'] is the digital version of ‘U Can’t Touch This.’ I’ve heard a lot of dance DJs incorporate this into their mixes in cool ways. It doesn’t sound as hokey mixed with a cool beat.”

4. Get Bieber on Board. Bieber, of course, may be YouTube’s biggest musical success story. It helps that he’s had savvy management, in the form of Scooter Braun. It also helps that he’s willing to leverage his own social-media popularity to help artists he likes. For Jepsen, there was not only his epic tweet, but also an ad hoc video Bieber made of himself and girlfriend Selena Gomez lip-synching “Call Me Maybe.” And he also signed her to his Schoolboy label, run by Braun. Braun was quick to sign Psy, too, when he started breaking stateside this summer. Even Karmin got some advice from Braun, who’s been able to convince the industry that there are more Biebers out there on YouTube, waiting to be turned into lucrative hitmakers. “We got a chance to talk to Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber’s manager, and he was saying he had a hard time getting Justin Bieber signed because a lot of labels didn’t believe in views translating into sales,” Karmin manager Nils Gums told Forbes. “Now, that has actually been a proven model.” Said Halperin, “Scooter Braun, hats off to that guy for making the most of the moment. He’s like Simon Cowell.”

5. Hit the road, and hit iTunes. Granted, having 300,000,000 likes on YouTube doesn’t necessarily earn you a penny. What makes money is touring and digital downloads. Karmin used YouTube to develop an e-mail list of potential customers for iTunes singles. Psy, too, has been able to translate YouTube fame into iTunes sales. And touring, as always, is where musicians make real money, without having to give the lion’s share back to their labels. Plus, it’s where they prove to fans that they’re not just manufactured video stars. Another revenue stream likely to earn big bucks for the likes of Psy and Jepsen: licensing, as advertisers, movies, and shows like Glee seek to borrow some cool points by using their hot-right-now tunes.

6. Be good. Remember the cautionary tale of Rebecca Black. She became a viral sensation out of novelty — because no one could get over how uniquely awful the song “Friday” and its clip were. To be fair, she was a 13-year-old girl, and no one expected her to have the depth and refined talent necessary for long-term staying power. We’ll see if 26-year-old Jepsen and 34-year-old Psy have more than one hit apiece in them, depending on whether they can write more songs as good as their initial hits. It’s not even necessary to have enough good songs for a whole album, just a handful that can be released over time. Of Psy, Halperin said, “Will the guy be able to sell albums because of this fluke hit? There’s no guarantee. But it’s a singles market these days. You sell the song while it’s hot.”

Kiss goodbye to “Call Me Maybe.”

A week after releasing her sophomore single “This Kiss,” Canadian crooner Carly Rae Jepsen has been spotted filming a music video for the follow-up to her summer smash hit.

Clad in a rocker-chic ensemble of leather short shorts and studded accessories — including massive earrings by, POParazzi — the 26-year-old songstress was all smiles as she filmed scenes for her upcoming video.

Jepsen sure has a lot to prove following the success of her infectious breakout song.

In 2012 alone, Jepsen has managed to rack up five awards just for “Call Me Maybe,” including a Teen Choice Award for Summer Song and a Much Music Video Awards for Video of the Year.

“Call Me Maybe” is also currently nominated for Best Song at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Jepsen’s newest album Kiss was recently released on Sept. 18, though both the record and “This Kiss” has yet to crack top 10 of the Billboard charts.

When will Shameless, House of Lies and Californication return to Showtime? 

Showtime has set the winter 2013 premiere dates for Shameless, House of Lies and Californication and given us a tidbit of what we should expect when the shows return. Shameless will pick up a few months after last season with Jimmy (Justin Chatwin) moving into the Gallagher home. On the seccond season of House of Lies, Marty (Don Cheadle) and Jeannie (Kristen Bell) will have to deal with the fall out from the big merger showdown. As for Californication, Maggie Grace (Lost) will join this season and develop an interesting relationship with Hank (David Duchovny). All three series will return on January 13, 2013 starting with Shameless at 9 PM. [Showtime]

Jenna Dewan has been cast in the Lifetime pilot, Witches of East End. The star, who will appear in American Horror Story this fall, will play Julia Ormond’s daughter, Freya Beauchamp. The character is described, as a former wild child who will find out she’s a witch shortly after she settles down with her fiancé. [TVLine]

The It Gets Better project will air a second special this October on MTV and Logo. The program will include stories from young Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people and will be anchored by columnist/It Gets Better creator Dan Savage. The 60-minute special will air two days before National Coming Out day on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 11 PM. [MTV]

Stanley Tucci is headed to PBS. The accomplished actor recently seen in The Hunger Games will host the network’s documentary series, Independent Lens. Previous hosts include America Ferrara and Don Cheadle. The season will officially begin on Monday, Oct. 29 at 10 PM but will preview with Brad Lichtenstein’s As Goes Janesville on Monday, Oct. 8.
