Justin Bieber was the big winner at the 2012 American Music Awards, held Sunday night in Los Angeles.

The 18-year-old pop phenom took home three awards during the telecast, including the night’s biggest award, Artist of the Year.

He also won awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Album (“Believe”).

Among the other big winners were Nicki Minaj, who won for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album (“Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded), and Taylor Swift, who won Favorite Country Music Female Artist.

The Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block ushered in the return of the boy bands with an epic joint performance on Sunday night’s American Music Awards.

The two groups shared the stage with mash-ups of their biggest hits to prepare rabid NKOTB and BSB fans for their sure-to-be-dreamy joint tour together next summer.

The two bands performed a medley of NKOTB’s “Step by Step” and “You’ve Got It (The Right Stuff)” with BSB’s “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” “I Want It That Way” and “Larger Than Life.”

Justin Bieber took home some serious hardware at the American Music Awards (including Artist of the Year), though what many will be talking about was his stirring rendition of his tune ‘Pray.’

Sitting behind a piano, Bieber ditched the high-energy stage show for old-fashioned acoustic singing and playing, belting out the emotional tune to the crowd’s delight. He was eventually joined by a gospel choir, adding even more drama to the tune.

Sure, Justin Bieber is, technically, Canadian, but that didn’t stop him from stealing the show at the 2010 American Music Awards.

The “Baby” sensation belted out a soulful, intimate rendition of “Pray” at tonight’s ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, and also scored honors for Breakthrough Artist and Best Pop/Rock Artist, Male and Artist of the Year.

The 2010 American Music Awards were definitely a family affair this year. At least, they were if you’re the Smith family.

“Whip My Hair” sensation Willow Smith was joined by her brother, Jaden Smith, and mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, on the red carpet for this year’s ceremony, held at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

Ke$ha showed up to the American Music Awards looking like, well, Ke$ha.

The 16-year-old My World sensation has been scheduled to perform at this year’s AMAs, along with Ke$ha, Kid Rock, P!nk, Ne-Yo, recent collaborators Rihanna and Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera and Usher.

Hopefully Biebs’ performance will be more wholesome than other recent AMAs performances.

The American Music Awards are set to get a dose of pop power this year, as Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Ke$ha will all be performing for the first time the awards show.

Among the three, Bieber has the most nominations with four, while Perry and Ke$ha have three a piece. They’re all vying for the all-important Artist of the Year category.

While there’s no word on what song Baby Biebs will be rocking during his rookie AMA performance, he told the Associated Press: “As a small-town kid from Canada, I never imagined that I would be nominated for AMAs, let alone be performing on the show.”
