In the future all meals will come in pill form. In the future all person-to-person interaction will be replaced by computers. In the future all movies will be based on Joshuah Bearman articles.

Using the strategy of “if it works, squeeze it for all the profit you can,” George Clooney is reportedly teaming up with Bearman again for his next movie. Clooney produced Argo, which was based on an article Bearman wrote for Wired magazine, and was awarded Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards.

The film will be called Coronado High and is based on an as-yet unpublished article penned by Bearman. Therefore, details about the plot are slim. What we do know is that it involves a group of teenagers who begin to smuggle drugs in the affluent resort city near San Diego. Clooney is producing the film with Grant Heslov and David Klawans, with whom he also partnered to produce Argo. It’s still too early for casting news, but Tate Donovan can probably play one of the Coronado High students, right?

And if two Bearman article-inspired films aren’t enough for you, Klawans is also currently working on a film called Art of the Steal, which is also based on, you guessed it, a Joshuah Bearman article.

In just a few short days, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will hold its annual Oscar ceremony, crowning the best and brightest Hollywood has to offer with gorgeous gold statuettes commemorating their greatest achievements – this year, anyway.

If you’re at all interested in industry politics, then you’ve no doubt been paying close attention to the jockeying for position that the year’s highest-profile films have done in recent weeks: after Ben Affleck failed to score a nomination for Best Director, his film Argo picked up steam as a film to beat in several major categories, including Best Picture. Meanwhile, director David O. Russell has shopped around the stars of Silver Linings Playbook in an effort to drum up support for the film, which now unexpectedly seems to have a real shot at stealing top honors from the likes of Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty.

But with a few days left to fill out your Oscar ballots for those office pools, we asked Celebuzz’ staff who they think should take home some of the ceremony’s top prizes.

Best Picture: Argo. It’s this year’s industry darling.
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis. For someone who’s highly selective of his roles, this man’s track record is amazing. Out of the 20 feature films he’s starred in, he’s been nominated five times for a Best Actor Oscar and won the actual award twice. It’s his year again. The numbers don’t lie.
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence. Her SAG Award for Female Actor in a Leading Role kind of sealed her fate for this category.
Best Director: Steven Spielberg. Since Ben Affleck — the winner of this year’s Director’s Guild Award for Argo — isn’t nominated for an Oscar, many in the Academy will go for the safe choice and give it to Spielberg.
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway. I’m going with the SAG win argument again.
Best Supporting Actor: Tommy Lee Jones. Again, SAG Awards is always a good prediction of how the Oscar acting awards will be handed out.

Best Picture: Argo. From sweeping up several other Best Picture wins this season to all the public outcry of Ben Affleck being snubbed for Best Director, Argo has an edge despite the many beloved folders in this more-crowded-than-ever category.
Best Director: Benh Zeitlin. In his feature directorial debut, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Benh Zeitlin directed a five-year-old no-name to become one of the youngest Best Actress nominees ever.
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis. Forever after this acclaimed performance, Daniel Day-Lewis will live on in our minds as the actualization of Abraham Lincoln.
Best Actress: Jessica Chastain. After Kathryn Bigelow was overlooked for Best Director for helming the year’s most controversial film, it seems only fitting its female lead take the top honor instead.
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway. Though Les Misérables garnered mix reviews, the Academy is always a sucker for a dramatic transformation and, of course, a good cry.
Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz. For the second straight Quentin Tarantino film, “supporting actor” Christoph Waltz has shone as the true star.

Best Picture: Lincoln. The scale, storytelling, direction and acting make this my overall favorite pick for best film.
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis. The British actor is simply the best in the business.
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence. Jennifer Lawrence is the most exciting and talented young actress in Hollywood and gets my vote this year.
Best Director: Steven Spielberg. No other director deserves it more that Spielberg for making such an interesting movie about such an important historical figure.
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway. Simply the best – she can sing and act, and even looks good with dodgy teeth.
Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz. Nobody does danger with a hint of irony better than this German master – worthy of an Oscar.

Best Picture: Either Silver Linings Playbook or Lincoln. Historically, Lincoln is exactly the kind of film that the Academy likes to reward. But Silver Linings Playbook has garnered so much positive attention and goodwill that it definitely stands a chance.
Best Actor: Daniel Day Lewis. He underwent a big transformation for the role, and the consensus is that he deserves a record-breaking third Oscar.
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence. People like her not only as an actress, but as a personality. People want to see her take the stage and give a memorable acceptance speech.
Best Director: David O. Russell. He pulled amazing, nomination-worthy performances out of his four main actors. That’s a director’s job; he deserves it.
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway. It just seems unavoidable at this point. It was kind of her year.
Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz. He gave the quirkiest, most memorable performance of the bunch.

Best Picture: Argo. Ben Affleck’s directing snub should have sealed Argo‘s fate in this category. Ironically, it appears that everyone has decided to rally behind him, instead. Sorry, Lincoln.
Best Director: Steven Spielberg. With Ben Affleck out of the equation, Spielberg seems like the next logical choice to win here. Though wouldn’t it be kind of awesome if Behn Zeitlin won instead?
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis. Why are you even reading this sentence? He’s winning.
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence. Years from now, people will look back on this category and ask, “Why did Jennfier Lawrence win?” In the meantime, everyone seems to think she deserves it, so there’s no reason to think that she won’t.
Best Supporting Actor: Tommy Lee Jones. Although, your guess is as good as mine. (Go Hoffman, even if you’re actually Lead!)
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway. Hathaway won the Oscar the second she was cast as Fantine. A “Dream” role, indeed.

Best Picture: Zero Dark Thirty. Kathryn Bigelow knows how to move an audience with deeply compelling writing and acting, and like The Hurt Locker, told this story of such a poignant moment in the world’s history with such honesty you couldn’t take your eyes off the screen.
Best Actor: It’s a toss-up between Daniel Day-Lewis and Joaquin Phoenix, but in either case, one word sufficiently describes both actors’ performances: Brilliant.
Best Actress: Jessica Chastain. Her subtle determination made this performance.
Best Director: Steven Spielberg. He’s the clear favorite and if he wins, much like the film, he too will go down in American history as only the fourth director to win more than two directing Oscars.
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway. I just hope the Academy spells her name right!
Best Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin. I loved this film, but he made the whole movie worth watching, just waiting for those unexpected one-liners.

Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis. He’s been unstoppable all awards season long.
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence. Although there’s a lot of history riding on this with Riva and Wallis, JLaw’s performance trumps all the others.
Best Director: David O. Russell. Although my personal pick would be underdog Benh Zeitlin, David O. Russell will win the Oscar.
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway. All hail Anne Hathaway and whatever speech she will make to make us all cry.
Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz. This is a weak group of nominees to begin with, but Christoph Waltz’s performance is the strongest of them all.

Best Picture: Argo. Silver Linings Playbook has a real chance at taking this prize given its visibility over the last several weeks, but given the attention heaped upon Affleck specifically because he wasn’t nominated, it seems likely that the Academy will reward his effort in some way, this being probably the best and most direct.
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis. Although my sentimental choice has Joaquin Phoenix winning the statutette for what I still believe is truly the best performance of the year, Day-Lewis’ pedigree, and quite frankly, his charm in the face of so many previous victories, makes him the front-runner. And yeah, it was also a phenomenal performance.
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence. Poised to become the next A-list star with acting chops to match, Lawrence retains a scrappy, don’t-give-a-shit attitude that makes her youthfulness sexy without sounding impudent or disrespectful. Jessica Chastain absolutely knocks it out of the park in Zero Dark Thirty, but I feel like the Academy is going to reward her upstart colleague instead.
Best Director: David O. Russell. Spielberg already has his Oscar, and Russell’s film has built a head of steam on the charm and talent of its actors, whom the extraordinarily gifted filmmaker coached to some remarkable performances.
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway. The moment she finished that uninterrupted tae where she sings her heart out, looking rumpled and broken and beautiful, the Academy already decided – even if they hadn’t seen the end result yet.
Best Supporting Actor: Tommy Lee Jones is such a joyless S.O.B. that his performance in Lincoln seems more like typecasting than a terrific transformation, but it’s the kind of turn that the Academy likes – gruff and abrasive while retaining a charming edge, especially given the principle with which his character undertakes his formidable challenges in Lincoln.

Young Hollywood has a whole new meaning.

All season long, youth has been dominating the awards circuit — from the red carpet to multiple wins by Jennifer Lawrence. Come Sunday, Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhané Wallis, 9 ,could make Oscar history if she takes home the prize for Best Actress.

Now, the folks over at Official Comedy have paired up with Landline TV and some adorable young actors to reenact some of this year’s biggest nominees.

From the hunt for “Bin Lagin” in Zero Dark Thirty to the bleeped moments in Django Unchained, “Kids Oscars!” is the work of thespians aged six and younger.

According to Landline TV’s Jared Neumark, the kids were naturals at ad-libbing.

“They did a little bit of ad-lib in the Argo one,” he told Buzzfeed this week. “The line is ‘Did people really dress like this in the ‘70s?’ and they were just answering how they wanted to . . . They’ll say lines wrong and we’ll keep that. We have the text of what they’re saying at the bottom of the screen.”

The mini reenactment video comes just over a month after a group of kid models recreated some of the Golden Globe Awards’ best-dressed stars for a photo shoot.

“The kids just love it. They have so much fun,” Tricia Messeroux of Toddlewood told Celebuzz back in January. “It’s like a play date for them and they have a ball.”

The 85th Academy Awards will be handed out on Sunday in Los Angeles.

The box office had a big shake-up last weekend, thanks to the release of Jeremy Renner’s new film Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. The action fantasy film took in $19 million in its first weekend.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence and Silver Linings Playbook continue to be major hits on the awards scene.

The 22-year-old actress took home another prize, this time for Best Actress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Silver Linings Playbook is also edging closer and closer to the $100 million mark at the box office.

When the Oscar nominations were announced on Jan. 10 and Ben Affleck’s name wasn’t called in the category of Best Director, many thought that Argo’s chances of winning Best Picture were basically over; after all, in the Academy’s 84-year history, only three films won Best Picture without a directing nomination — Wings (1927/28); Grand Hotel (1931/32); and, decades later, Driving Miss Daisy (1989).

But then, something strange happened. In the span of a single weekend, Argo, which tells the story of a CIA operative who helped rescue six Americans during the Iran hostage crisis, won two of the most coveted precursor awards: the Critics’ Choice and Golden Globe for Best Picture. It followed with victories at the Producers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Since 1995, the year in which SAG added an Ensemble category and the Broadcast Film Critics Association was founded, only five other movies have accomplished this feat — American Beauty, Chicago, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, No Country for Old Men and Slumdog Millionaire — each of which went on to win the Best Picture Oscar in their respective year.

This puts Argo in a pretty good position heading into Friday’s Directors Guild of America award, where, at this point, Affleck should be heavily favored to win. (If he does pull it off, statistically Argo would become a lock to win Best Picture; American Beauty, Chicago, The Return of the King, No Country for Old Men and Slumdog Millionaire all won the DGA as well.)

It doesn’t hurt that Affleck is well-respected and equally well-liked in the Hollywood community — not to mention the ultimate comeback story.

In 2007, after starring in a series of bombs, he found new life behind the camera with Gone Baby Gone, an unexpected hit that earned money at the box office, rave reviews from critics and an Oscar nomination for its costar, Amy Ryan. He followed Gone Baby Gone with another Oscar-nominated hit, 2010′s The Town, and then, of course, Argo.

Working even better in Argo’s favor are two things that Academy voters often find difficult to resist: 1.) it was directed by an actor, which the Academy loves (see: Robert Redford, Ron Howard, Clint Eastwood and many others); and 2.) it has that deadly — or, rather, winning — combination of being an uplifting, heroic American story with a lot of wink-wink, nudge-nudge jokes about the industry. Audiences can relate to Argo — but more importantly, so can Hollywood.

It would also be a way to make up for Affleck’s snub, in some way; the actor is listed as a producer on the film, and would ultimately win an Oscar should Argo take the top prize, along with George Clooney and Grant Heslov.

Of course, even with statistics on its side, Argo still has some hurdles to jump for it to actually win Best Picture.

For one, it enters the final leg of the race as the fourth-most nominated movie, with seven. While an impressive total, it’s slightly behind Silver Linings Playbook, which has eight nominations, and further behind Lincoln and Life of Pi, which have 12 and 11 nominations, respectively. Although the most-nominated movies don’t always win, Argo’s nomination total, combined with Affleck’s snub, could suggest it wasn’t as beloved by the Academy as one might suggest. (And in which case, which of the remaining six nominations could it potentially win? Editing? Sound Mixing? It’s unclear.)

There’s also the chance that 2012 could simply be 1995 all over again. That year had a similar incident, in which supposed frontrunner Apollo 13 nearly swept the precursors after its director, Ron Howard, was snubbed by the Academy, winning the Directors Guild, Producer Guild and Screen Actors Guild’s top prizes. It eventually lost to Braveheart at the Oscars, which was ironically helmed by another actor-turned-director, Mel Gibson.

But with a little less than a month to go before the Oscars actually air (Feb. 24 on ABC), there’s no telling how things will actually shake out; and in a year in which the Academy has already proven to be anything but predictable (Quvenzhané Wallis, anyone?), it’s safe to say that the Best Picture Oscar could go to any one of the nine nominated movies — even Amour. (Okay, maybe not.)

For now, though, it’s looking more and more like that Argo could actually go all the way.

In the build-up to Awards season, some movies beat the drum louder than others.

Films like Argo and Les Miserables come out of the gate designed for all the attention, and get it – if their box office grosses are any indication. Other releases take the less-is-more approach, relying on word of mouth – and just being damn good movies – to attract Oscar’s spotlight.

Hold on to your butts: There’s another Jurassic Park on the way.

Universal Pictures announced via press release that the fourth installment of the hit dinosaur franchise will arrive in theaters June 13, 2014. Steven Spielberg, who helmed the first two films in the franchise, will serve as executive producer. The film, written by Rise of the Planet of the Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, is expected to find a director soon.

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are launching a new production company. Important Studios will allow the duo to “approve television, movie and theater projects, including a big-screen version of The Book of Mormon.” Stone says he hopes DreamWorks or Lucasfilm will serve as a model, but then explained, “In some ways it’s a stupid comparison because they are gargantuan.  We want to be a smaller, more humble version of that.” [The New York Times]

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is still a thing that’s happening, and Disney has hired a new writer to make it happen. Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, Rush Hour 3) will pen the return of Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack, although the actor has yet to officially sign-on for the sequel. But don’t worry, he will. Unless he’s developed an allergy to all the money this franchise makes. [Variety]

Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the directing duo behind Crazy, Stupid, Love, have signed-on to write and direct the film based on the Wired Magazine article “John McAfee’s Last Stand.” The film centers on McAfee’s crazy turn from software engineer to suspected murderer and fugitive hiding out in Belize. The project, set up at Warner Bros., has yet to lock down a release date. [Variety]

Good news for Die Hard fans: The next installment in the oh-my-god-it’s-still-going franchise will be Rated “R.” Collider.com confirmed the report this past Friday, as did a new TV spot for A Good Day to Die Hard. Bruce Willis reprises his role as John McClane, and this time the New York cop is in Russia, struggling to save his son from some very bad guys. Watch the new TV spot below.

In the ramp-up to the Golden Globes, the Oscar nominations have come and gone, leaving a bread-crumb trail of obvious nods and an ocean of dissatisfied grumbles at some of the less-subtle snubs.

In fact, one could argue that between its two two-category system of Drama and Musical/Comedy, the Globes made a much wiser set of selections. After getting snubbed by the Oscars on Thursday morning, Ben Affleck came roaring back just a few hours later by winning top honors at the 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards for his film Argo.

The critically acclaimed smash took home two awards that evening, including Best Picture of the Year.

A visibly shocked Affleck was also named Best Director.

“I’d like to thank the Academy,” he quipped during his acceptance speech.

But it was Silver Linings Playbook that topped the night, taking home four awards, for Best Comedy, Best Actor in a Comedy (Bradley Cooper) Best Actress in a Comedy (Jennifer Lawrence) and Best Ensemble.

Star Lawrence also won for Best Actress in an Action Movie, for The Hunger Games.

Other big winners included Daniel Day-Lewis, for Lincoln; Jessica Chastain, for Zero Dark Thirty; and Anne Hathaway, for her haunting performance in Les Miserables.

Affleck was arguably the biggest snub from yesterday’s 2013 Oscar nominations; along with Zero Dark Thirty‘s Kathryn Bigelow, Affleck failed to be nominated in the Best Director category, despite being considered a lock by many pundits.

Argo nevertheless earned five Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture.

With less than a week to go before the Oscar nominations are announced, one of the biggest foreshadows for Oscar gold – the Directors Guild – has revealed their nominees for Best Director.

As expected, Argo‘s director and star Ben Affleck and Lincoln‘s Steven Spielberg lead the pack, followed by a few surprise picks.

Tom Hooper (Les Miserables), Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) and Ang Lee (Life of Pi) round out the list of 5 directors. This year marks Affleck’s first DGA nomination, while Best Director Oscar winners Hooper and Bigelow received their second. Spielberg scored is eleventh DGA nomination.

David O. Russell, a favorite for The Silver Linings Playbook, is notably absent. Also missing from the list are Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained and The Master‘s Paul Thomas Anderson.

The DGA is one of the strongest indicators of who will take home Oscar gold. No director has ever won an Academy Award without previously receiving a nod from the DGA.

So based on the DGAs, who are Oscar’s frontrunners? With Golden Globe and DGA nods, Hooper is a safe bet for a Best Director nomination. Ditto Spielberg and Bigelow.

The outlook is still a bit fuzzy on Lee; the Academy could go either way and give it to Russell. And don’t count out Tarantino just yet; the filmmaker is very popular with the Academy and his Golden Globe nomination may be enough to secure a nod. Oscar nominations are announced Thursday, January 10.

Out of focus, indeed.

Less than a week after confirming his involvement, Kristen Stewart has lost her leading man, Ben Affleck, in their upcoming film, Focus. The actor reportedly dropped out due to his busy schedule.

Affleck “very much wanted to do the film, the timing just couldn’t be worked out,” per Variety.

Per Deadline, the Argo actor, 40, was originally cast to play Stewart’s love interest in the sexy comedy, about a veteran con artist who enlists the help of an inexperienced ingenue (Stewart). Other reports stated that the pair would film “passionate” love scenes.

Before signing off, Affleck expressed his excitement over the project, even calling 22-year-old Stewart “terrific.”

With the award-season buzz surrounding Argo, Affleck still has reason to celebrate. The political drama garnered five nominations at the 2013 Golden Globes (Jan. 13), including Best Picture and Best Director nods, and is already speculated to lead the way at next year’s Academy Awards.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn — Part 2, Skyfall and Lincoln held onto their box office perches for the third week in a row. Read on for how the rest of the weekend movies fared.

The fifth and final Twilight film stayed atop the box office for the third week in a row, earning $17.4 million. That brings its total domestic tally to $254.6 million, just one million shy of the biggest Twilight film: New Moon.

Skyfall came in at a close second, with $17 million. The 23^rd entry in the Bond franchise is not only the series’ highest-grossing film, its also the highest grossing spy movie ever in the U.S. Skyfall’s worldwide total currently stands at $869 million.

Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln continued to show great legs at the box office. The film, which came in at No. 3 for the weekend with $13.5 million, has grossed nearly $84 million domestic. The bio-pic could easily hit the $100 million mark during the upcoming holiday frame.

3D holdovers Rise of the Guardians and Life of Pi came in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Guardians found $13.5 million in its second week in release, while director Ang Lee’s Pi grossed $12 million.

Killing Them Softly was the sole wide release this past weekend, bombing at No. 7 with a dismal $7 million. The film, which garnered a rare “F” CinemaScore rating from moviegoers, marks one of Brad Pitt’s worst opening weekends ever.

On a positive note, Ben Affleck’s Oscar-hopeful Argo reached the $100 million milestone at the box office this past weekend. This marks Affleck’s highest-grossing film as a director.

Thanksgiving is naturally a time for reflection and appreciation – of family, and the things in our lives that mean the most. Appropriately, Celebuzz assembled a small group of movie experts to talk about the films of 2012 for which they’re most thankful.

Celebuzz Senior Film Editor Todd Gilchrist and MoviesAreMyJam.com writer Alicia Malone joined Daily Buzz host extraordinaire Hyla for a spirited discussion of some of the year’s most interesting – and inspiring – films.

Gilchrist’s first pick was Cloud Atlas, Lana and Andy Wachowski’s epic story of love and transformation. He explained that he appreciates the film’s ambition, and the fact that a major studio put considerable money and marketing muscle behind such a unique and personal piece of entertainment.

Malone, meanwhile, favored Argo, Ben Affleck’s third film as a director. Appreciating Affleck’s physical charms as much as his filmmaking chops, she talked about the great roller coaster ride she took watching the film at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival.

Both agreed that Benh Zeitlin’s Beasts of the Southern Wild was a great addition to the year’s cinematic landscape, for its incredible cast as well as its scrappy passion. But Gilchrist also chose Searching For Sugar Man, a beautiful documentary about obscure singer-songwriter Rodriguez, which not only offered great visual but musical entertainment.

Buoyed by positive reviews and an international haul that is quickly reaching record numbers, the latest installment in the James Bond franchise, Skyfall, won the weekend’s box office with a gross of $87.8 million dollars.

With a domestic total of $90 million, the film’s worldwide grosses have already reached $518.6 million — making it not only the biggest opening ever for a Bond film, but sets the stage for the biggest international gross in the series’ history as well.

In the No. 2 spot, Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph scored another $33 million in receipts, bringing its total to $93.6 million after just two weeks.

With a reported cost of just $31 million, Robert Zemeckis’ Flight continues to perform modestly well, bringing in $15.1 million for a total of $47.7 million to date.

Ben Affleck’s Argo remains strong even after five weeks, earning another $6.7 million in revenues. The film has almost doubled its $44.5 million budget, and its domestic haul to date is in excess of $85.7 million.

And Taken 2, Liam Neeson’s latest ass-kicker, took in $4 million, landing it at the Number 5 spot.

Meanwhile, RZA’s martial arts opus The Man With the Iron Fists dropped to No. 9 with a box office take of almost $2.5 million. The film earned $12.7 million to date.

Ben Affleck is no doubt pleased with the continued success of his third directorial effort: Argo, his chronicle of the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, landed the Number 1 spot at the box office with another $12 million in ticket sales.

The film has earned $60.7 million in just three weeks of release, recouping its $45 million budget and then some.

Hotel Transylvania, meanwhile, was Number 2 with $9.5 million in receipts, bringing its five-week gross to $130 million.

At Number 3, Cloud Atlas failed to make a strong impression, earning just $9.4 million despite the star wattage of Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, not to mention a barrage of positive reviews from the critical community.

Paranormal Activity 4 continues to chug along, however, earning another $8.6 million. That brings it cumulative haul to $42.6 million, after just two weeks.

And at Number 5, Liam Neeson continues to pummel the competition with another $8 million in sales for Taken 2.

The week’s other two high-profile new releases, Silent Hill: Revelation, and Fun Size, unfortunately failed to scare up large audiences. Both nevertheless managed to earn amounts respectable to their production costs. At Number 6, Silent Hill grossed $8 million against its $20 million budget, and at Number 10, Fun Size took in $4.6 million against its $14 million price tag.

After eviscerating its competition with an opening-weekend haul of $49.5 million, Taken 2 continues to pummel all comers in its second weekend with another $21.8 million in receipts.

Meanwhile, Ben Affleck’s third outing as a director, Argo, squeaked into the No. 2 spot with an impressive $19.5 million.

Hotel Transylvania, on the other hand, dropped to No. 4 with a box office take of $17.2 million, bringing its cumulative earnings to more than $102 million in just three weeks.

What scary surprise slid into Number Three?

Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill’s Sinister opened at No. 3 with just more than $18 million, which recouped its reportedly $3 million price tag and then some.

No. 5 was also a new release: Kevin James’ Here Comes the Boom. The comedic MMA movie took in $11.8 million along with its wealth of negative reviews.

Of the other two high-profile films opening last weekend, Seven Psychopaths and Atlas Shrugged: Part II, only the former penetrated the Top 10, slipping past Perks of Being a Wallflower to take home $4.1 million in the No. 9 spot.

Atlas Shrugged, on the other hand, landed at No. 11, which is actually mildly impressive given the fact that it opened only on a few more than 1,000 screens, which was less than half of the number of screens of almost all of its competition.

Who better to host a Q & A session than Hollywood funnyman Jimmy Kimmel?

Celebuzz had the pleasure of attending the informative session for Ben Affleck‘s new film Argo on Thursday, following a special charity screening of the buzz-worthy feature.

Kimmel definitely enhanced the experience with his sense of humor, getting the crowd — who had just spent two hours watching Argo — riled up by opening with: “Did you guys like my movie? How many of you really have to go the bathroom right now?”

Affleck’s film is based on a true story about the Iranian revolution and what happened once it reached its boiling point — including a CIA “exfiltration” specialist devising a strategic, yet risky plan to free several Americans who were staying at the home of the Canadian ambassador.

So, naturally, Kimmel asked if this film was a way to pay homage to Canada and kiss Canada’s derriere.

Affleck laughed and responded, “Yes, definitely always looking to kiss Canadian ass.”

Kimmel gushed that most of the cast look exactly like the characters they portrayed in the film — except for Affleck, who grew out a full beard and mustache for the flick.

“Ben looked nothing like Tony Mendez (Ben’s Argo character),” Kimmel vented.

“I know, but I wasn’t in the place to fire myself,” Affleck joked. “It speaks to what bad hair and a stache can do!”

Matt Damon is known to be Affleck’s right hand man, but he could have some competition. Affleck and Kimmel definitely had great chemistry.

Ben Affleck is giving a thumbs up to his BFF Matt Damon‘s new ‘do — even if it is a shocker.

“It takes you off guard,” the 40-year-old told Celebuzz exclusively at Thursday’s charity screening of his new flick, Argo. “I never saw Matt as the skinhead type. But it looks good on him.”

Affleck not only serves as the star of Argo, but also as its director. And despite his film already generating Oscar buzz, the 40-year-old says he’s still honing his skills behind the camera.

“I’m a director who’s still learning, but I give myself a chance, which is all you can ask of a director,” he told us at the Argo premiere, presented by Samsung Galaxy SIII. “I’m probably not my own favorite director. I’m very critical.”

He needn’t be: Affleck made his directorial debut with Gone Baby Gone; it received a host of awards and, at the end of the year, appeared on some 65 film critics’ lists of 2007′s best films. His 2010 effort, The Town, received a similar reception.

As for Affleck’s next project? He wouldn’t mind working with his better half, wife Jennifer Garner.

“I would definitely love the chance to direct a movie she was in,” Affleck said. “She’s very talented.”

Aspiring filmmakers will be flocking to the box office this weekend as not one, but two new releases revolves around movie-making. Well, sort of.

Based on true events, Ben Affleck’s Argo revolves a CIA agent who must disguise himself as a Canadian filmmaker in order to slip into Iran during the Iranian Revolution and rescue six American hostages. During the ordeal, the agent (Affleck) drums up a dummy film production company and sci-fi movie in order to fool those who are guarding the borders.

How does ‘Seven Psychopaths’ fit into movie-making?

Starring Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and Woody Harrelson, Seven Psychopaths follows an aspiring screenwriter who accidentally finds himself in the crosshairs of a local mob boss when his friends accidentally kidnaps the kingpin’s beloved shih tzu. Stuck on getting a story out, writer (Rockwell) then starts documenting their adventures as a part of his movie.
