Sylvester Stallone has maintained a remarkable career not just as he’s gotten older, but literally out of the process of getting old.

Like 1980s action alums Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, he’s embraced his advancing age, bringing the genre — and the audiences that love it — along for a familiar but provocatively unique sort of ride: after creating new installments for the two series that helped make him a star, Rocky and Rambo, he created the Expendables franchise, in which he and his contemporaries prove definitively they’re not too old to kick ass, even if they are, well, not quite as spry as they used to be.

By all accounts, Stallone’s latest, Bullet to the Head, seems to follow this now-proven formula: the film pits the sexagenarian against up-and-coming whippersnapper Jason Momoa in a battle for biggest bad ass, directed by another ’80s icon, Walter Hill. But whether the film revives Stallone and the genre in general or turns up dead on arrival, its release inspired Celebuzz to take a look back at some of the great ’80s movies that, well, still kick ass even today.

In a recent interview with Bild, the mega movie star revealed he will be taking an indefinite break from acting.

This quote makes the list this week, not because of what was said, but because of what it means for fans, ticket sales and Hollywood as we know it.

Since the “inception” (pun intended) of his film career, DiCaprio has been one of the most notable, most esteemed actors, revered by all for his unmatchable talent and impeccable role choices.

Now, after many uninterrupted years of Leo, it seems were going to have to learn to live without him — temporarily, at least.

So what calls for this hiatus?

According to Leo, shooting three films in two years is exhausting — go figure.

At least he’s going out with a bang. DiCaprio’s latest role as a villainous slave owner in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained was a critical success, and Leo’s two upcoming films — F.Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Martin Scorcese’s The Wolf of Wall Street – already have people talking.

So what will he do with all of his free time?

“I would like to improve the world a bit,” DiCaprio told the German newspaper.

Seeing as Leo is such a ladies man, we wouldn’t be surprised if that included shacking up with an environmentally conscious hottie in a foreign country a la George Clooney.

Jessica Chastain beat herself at the box office this weekend.

Her new thriller, Mama, grossed more than $28 million over the weekend to take top spot at the box office, and it’s far from being done as Martin Luther King day approaches.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Guillermo del Toro picture is projected to wrap up the holiday weekend with at least $33.2 million.

Chastain’s other box office giant, Zero Dark Thirty, took second place with $17.6 million, while Silver Linings Playbook grossed $11.4 million round out the top three.

Moviegoers weren’t as kind to new releases from Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Broken City, a crime thriller starring Wahlberg and Crowe, finished the weekend in fifth place, with some $9 million in ticket sales.

But perhaps the biggest disappointment belonged to the former Governator. Starring in his first leading role in nearly a decade, Schwarzenegger’s action film The Last Stand came in dead last (10th place), with a mere $6.3 million.

Remember how just a few years ago Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger would barely acknowledge that he’d seen an R-rated movie, let alone starred in dozens? A beacon of responsible citizenship and good, sound, electable morals, Ahnuld did his very best to distance himself from whatever mercenary/robot/solider/barbarian/super-villain he might have portrayed in the past.

Until, of course, his term ended and he immediately signed on to about 35 high-body-count action flicks.

Having appeared briefly in last year’s sequel to The Expendables, Schwarzenegger’s first major starring role hits screens this month with The Last Stand. And to prepare for the return of everybody’s favorite aging death machine, we’ve put together a list of Arnold’s must-see films.

When a drug kingpin breaks out of custody and uses a super car to make a run for the Mexican border, of course the only thing standing in his way is Arnold Schwarzenegger.

After a stint in politics, Ahnuld returns to acting full-time with his much-anticipated comeback vehicle The Last Stand.

Directed by talented Korean filmmaker Kim Ji-Woon, Stand centers on Arnold’s small-town sheriff and his kickpunching efforts to take down the aforementioned bad guy. Lots of car chases and machine guns ensue, which is catnip for action movie fans. But how is the movie faring with critics?

Arnold Schwarzenegger may have built a career out of blowing away bad guys in movies like The Terminator and True Lies, but the veteran action star and former California governor says that Hollywood is not to blame for the violence that shocked the nation last month in Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 school children were killed.

“I think one must always keep it separate that this is entertainment and the other thing is a tragedy beyond belief,” Schwarzenegger during an interview in Beverly Hills for his new film The Last Stand last Saturday. “Whenever there’s a tragedy like that it would be foolish not to look into all ways of what we can do as a society to improve the situation and to reduce the risk of those kind of issues.”

While Schwarzenegger supports the second amendment, he also supports the Brady Bill requiring background checks.

He moderated his stance on gun control while campaigning for governor in 2003, and supports closing gun show loopholes which allow the purchase of firearms without a background check. But like many Republicans, the former governor cited a lack of mental health oversight as well as poor parenting as contributors to the problem.

“Does a mother need to collect those guns and take her little kids shooting?” he asked. “Everything has to be analyzed, no stone unturned. And I think that’s what we owe to our people, and I think that’s what they ought to do, rather than make it political.”

In The Last Stand, Schwarzenegger plays the sheriff of a border town lying in the path of a renegade cartel boss trying to cross illegally into Mexico.

Costarring Johnny Knoxville, the new movie features explosive shootouts, including Schwarzenegger manning a gatling gun from the back of a school bus. The new movie marks Schwarzenegger’s first lead role since returning to Hollywood after serving as governor.

“When you have left the movie business for seven years, it’s kind of a scary thing to come back because you don’t know if you’re accepted or not,” he confessed. “But I was very pleasantly surprised when I was doing the cameo in The Expendables that there was such a great, positive reaction towards my appearance that Sly [Stallone] asked me then to do the second Expendables and there was even a bigger reaction to that.”

Despite his 65 years, the former action star has a heavy slate in front of him. Later this year he’ll be seen playing an elderly inmate in The Tomb opposite Stallone and 50 Cent.

In Ten he’ll team with writer/director David Ayer (End Of Watch) as a DEA agent being targeted by drug lords.

Rumors are circulating about another Terminator movie but Triplets, a sequel to the 1988 comedy, Twins costarring Danny DeVito, is currently on the fast track at Universal.

“I have been trying to get Universal Studios to do that for ten years and the studio executives up until recently did not see the value,” Schwarzenegger said of the new movie starring DeVito, Eddie Murphy and directed by Ivan Reitman. “So now the new leadership sees the value and says, ‘That’s a brilliant idea, why haven’t they done it? We want to do that.’ So they hired the writers and they are full blast ahead an that movie that we will be doing.”

Of all the prospective titles, Conan The Barbarian will bring the muscle-bound Austrian full circle to the title that launched his career back in 1982.

“Universal Studios just bought the rights to Conan,” revealed Schwarzenegger. “They want to bring back and do a bunch of Conan movies but to do it really high quality and not a bunch of B movies.”

With the market for action heroes thinning, Schwarzenegger seems anxious despite his overloaded schedule. He’s hardly the go-to guy for drama or comedy, and Hollywood has narrowed the scope of movies they’re willing to finance.

“I would say in general you always kind of make decisions on what movie would be interesting for people to see,” he speculated. “What is it the audience out there wants to see me do? And based on that, you make decisions.”

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting, America is mourning the loss of 26 lives — 20 children and 6 adults — along with the tragedy-stricken community of Newtown, Conn. But that grief has also given way to a highly politicized debate, as the massacre shines a spotlight on the long-dormant debate of gun control.

When gunman Adam Lanza opened fire inside the grade school on Friday, he was wielding a military-style semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle and carrying an arsenal of ammunition. Now the rampage has reignited a political debate around the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms — most specifically, whether assault weapons like the one used by Lanza should be limited or even banned.

As politicians and activists alike debate regulation of such weapons and consider possible policy changes, some Hollywood stars are weighing in on the timely topic.

Director Michael Moore — the brain behind the 2002 documentary Bowling for Columbine, which explored the causes for the Columbine High School massacre and other instances of gun violence — was distraught following the Connecticut tragedy, sharing his thoughts on tighter firearm restrictions on his website.

“I tried to ring a warning bell about this a decade ago. The disease has only gotten worse,” Moore wrote on Sunday. “But…you feel something different in the air across America tonight, don’t you? People have had it, and the outrage is loud and visible. I’m convinced the majority of Americans will now back strong gun control laws…. And perhaps a few are willing to look at the deeper issue of how this country officially sanctions violence as a means to an end.”

Other celebrities echoed his call for gun control action. Rashida Jones argued that “gun control is our only road to freedom;” Ben Stiller made a bid to “stop the access to guns in our country;” Susan Sarandon encouraged her followers to “let NRA know how you feel;” and Piers Morgan wondered whether President Barack Obama will “have the courage to stand up to the American gun lobby?”

He’s back!

Lionsgate released on Wednesday the latest trailer for The Last Stand, in which Arnold Schwarzenegger takes — you guessed it — one last stand.

More specifically, the former Governator plays Sheriff Owens, a man who moved to small-town America after a stint in the LAPD left him battered and shaken. For awhile, life was good for the old-timer — that is, until the FBI informs him that an escaped drug lord is going to pass through his town on his way to the Mexican border.

Thus, Owens is forced to rise one last time — with the help of some gun-happy local misfits, of course — to prove why everyone grew to honor and respect him in the first place.

The Last Stand opens January 13; Schwarzenegger  last appeared on the big screen in The Expendables 2.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is coming back to crush more enemies.

The 65-year-old is headed back to the big screen in The Legend of Conan, reprising the musclular, sword-swinging warrior character that launched his mainstream movie acting career. According to Deadline, the film will extend the Universal Pictures franchise that starred Schwarzenegger in 1982′s Conan the Barbarian and then in 1984′s Conan The Destroyer.

“I always loved the Conan character and I’m honored to be asked to step into the role once again,” Schwarzenegger, who appeared in this year’s The Expendables 2, told Deadline. ”I can’t wait to work with Universal and the great team of Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan to develop the next step of this truly epic story.”

Though the film has no director or screenwriter on board yet, producer Chris Morgan (who wrote the last three famed Fast and Furious movies) may wield the pen for Conan if his schedule permits. Universal is aiming for a summer 2014 release date.

The Legend of Conan storyline will not take into account the failed Millennium Films’ 2011 remake of Conan the Barbarian, starring Game of Thrones‘ Jason Momoa as the prehistoric hero. Instead, the new adventure flick will pick up where Conan the Destroyer left off.

“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make,” producer Fredrik Malmberg told Deadline. “It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”

Back in 2008, during Barack Obama‘s meteoric rise from obscure Illinois Senator to the presidency, rival John McCain‘s camp criticized him for seeming too much like a celebrity. Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman announced Monday they have ended their 30-year marriage. The couple’s rep Stan Rosenfield confirmed the news to ET.

The 67-year-old actor and 64-year-old actress married in 1982 after meeting on the set of the smash hit, Taxi.

The actors have three children together – Jacob, 24, Grace, 27, and Lucy, 29. The duo also have a production company, Jersey Films, which has produced such hits as Pulp Fiction, Garden State, Erin Brockovich and Freedom Writers.

The split is the latest in a long line of celebrities who shocked when they ended their relationships.

Hollywood heavyweight Mel Gibson, 56, ended his 31-year marriage with wife, Robyn, in April 2009. The couple has seven children together and Robyn reportedly walked away with half of Gibson’s estimated $850 million dollar fortune.

Comedian George Lopez announced his split from wife Ann after 17 years of wedded bliss. The two, who have a 15-year-old daughter together, remain co-parents and partners in their philanthropic organization, The Lopez Foundation.

Ann even gave George one of her kidneys after the 51-year-old was diagnosed with a genetic condition causing him to need a kidney transplant.

Meanwhile, political power couple Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, announced that they’d be ending their 25-year marriage in July 2011. The news came two months after reports surfaced that Schwarzenegger, 65, fathered a child with a former household maid.

Shriver, 56, was spotted wearing her wedding ring while running errands in Brentwood on Oct. 6.

Ringing in a reconciliation?

Fueling rumors of a possible reunion with estranged husband Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver stepped out with her wedding band back on her left hand as she grabbed lunch with daughter Katherine at Brentwood Country Mart in Los Angeles, Calif., on Saturday.

Schwarzenegger, 65 — who is promoting his new autobiography Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story — recently revealed his hopes of winning his wife back after their marriage crumbled over an affair he had with housekeeper Mildred Baena that resulted in a son. Six weeks after her husband admitted to fathering the boy, Shriver filed for divorce in July 2011.

What did Schwarzenegger say about his strained 25-year marriage?

“I love my kids dearly, and I love Maria … She has been truly the only love that I’ve ever had, and that’s what is so pitiful about it,” the former California governor told CNN’s Piers Morgan. “All of a sudden, from one day to the next, the personal life totally crashed and I wiped out everything, you know, that I had. I mean the thing that I cherished the most was my personal life, was my marriage and was my family. I always thought that it was one of my greatest accomplishments.”

In his forthcoming book, the Austrian-born one-time bodybuilder praises Shriver, 56, as a supportive wife, but admits to keeping her in the dark during much of their relationship. “That’s the way I handle things. And it always has worked,” Schwarzenegger told 60 Minutes, according to the Associated Press. “But, I mean it does not – it’s not the best thing for people around me because I sometimes – some information I just keep to myself…. I became an expert in living in denial.”

Though the actor-turned-politician refused to comment on his out-of-wedlock son Joseph – now about 15 years old – he did discuss only blaming himself for the major misstep that tore apart his family. “The thing that really meant the most to me kind of fell apart because of my doing,” he said in the 60 Minutes interview. “That is something that I will always look back and say, ‘How could you have done that?’”

Writing exclusively for Celebuzz, Ian Halperin – author of The Governator — explores the motivations behind Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new tell-all book, Total Recall, and why it might be an attempt by the former Governor of California to get him back into the good graces of the public — and political office.

Last year, when I broke a world exclusive story that Arnold Schwarzenegger had signed a book deal with Simon & Schuster to write a tell-all about his life, my phone started ringing off the hook.

The first call I got was from one of Arnold’s longtime political advisors, who was also a source in my book.

“I can’t believe he’s going to do this,” the source said. “Most likely, it will be some sugar-coated puff piece. If Arnold ever told the truth about his life, warts and all, I don’t think he’d ever work again in any of the fields he succeeded in.”

Now, a day after his interview with 60 Minutes, there has been much fodder and debate as to why Schwarzenegger decided to write the book in the first place.

The Internet Monday was rife with speculation about how Arnold left out the more salacious details of his life. Perhaps his book should have been called Convenient Recall, as it appears he focused on what has already come out about his life in the mainstream media.

“He only admitted to the affair with Brigitte Nielsen because she put it out there last year in her own book,” one of Schwarzenegger’s longtime friends said. “There’s so many other women he had flings with but he doesn’t get into them at all.”

“He’s afraid to reveal all, because it’s not in his best interests at all to do so,” the friend continued. “He doesn’t want more women to come forward claiming he’s the father of their babies.”

For Schwarzenegger, regurgitating all the sordid details of his rocky marriage to Maria Shriver and the son he had out of wedlock with the family housekeeper is a major risk, although likely a calculated one.

The controversial figure’s compulsive cheating, groping and dishonesty has cast a cloud over the legacy of his accomplishments as a bodybuilder, actor and politician. Clearly, the publication of Total Recall is a last-ditch attempt to counter the negative publicity and precipitous decline in popularity he experienced after the cheating scandal first broke in May 2011.

But the book could also be part of a larger plan to get Arnold back into political office — and not just any office. Sources claim that Arnold, who was born in Austria, has devised a bold new strategy to amend the Constitution to allow foreign-born citizens like himself to run for the Oval Office.

Several people in his camp confirmed to me how Arnold and his loyalists are considering a startling plan in which Arnold would run for president in 2016. In doing so, he would enter the race as an Independent, and not as a Republican.

“Arnold has achieved everything he set out to since he moved to the U.S. some four decades ago,” his close friend said. “The only thing left for him to achieve would be the White House. That’s why he released the book at this time. He wants to get good publicity again and gain momentum to change the Constitution to allow him to make a run in 2016.”

In the meantime, a source close to the Schwarzenegger family said she wouldn’t be surprised to see another tell-all book published in the future — this time, from Maria.

“Even though Arnold says Maria hasn’t read his book, I find it hard to believe that he hasn’t shared any details with her,” the source said. “The talk in her camp is that after Arnold’s book dies down she’ll announce her own book deal. Word on the street is that she’s entertaining offers in the 10-20 million dollar range.”

“That’s why she’s not doing any PR during Arnold’s book tour,” the source continued. “She’ll answer everything when the time is right in her own book, in which a lot of things will differ from Arnold’s book. Right now the public is left believing Arnold. When Maria is done Arnold’s version of events could appear to be inconclusive and highly distorted.”

Arnold Schwarznegger is opening up about the affair which ruined his marriage to Maria Shriver in his new autobiography.

Appearing on Monday’s Good Morning America to promote the book, Total Recall, the former Governor of California told George Stephanopoulous that the affair was “one of the disastrous situations I’ve created and the worst thing I’ve ever done.”

Shriver divorced Schwarznegger in July of 2011 after finding out that he fathered a son, Joseph, with housekeeper Mildred Baena in 1996. “It’s just the worst thing because it hurt so many people,” he said.

What else did he have to say about the affair?

In the book, Schwarznegger wrote that Shriver was suspicious that Joseph might be his son, because of their resemblance, years before the star actually came clean to her in January 2011.

When Stephanopoulous questioned why he didn’t tell her about the affair earlier, he admits he was scared and didn’t know how to do go about doing it. “I was just, I think, too scared about losing everything, too scared about losing her, losing the family and I just didn’t know how,” he revealed.

Keeping Mildred on staff at their house was an effort to not make the situation worse.

“It’s worse when you start getting rid of people because it’s kind of like punishing somebody for having been in this situation so that’s the best way that I could have handled it,” he said.

Schwarznegger went on to say that he does consider Joseph to be his son and financially supports him and his mother.

He says that writing the book has enabled him to look back and analyze what had happened. He said apologetically, “When you look at the whole thing, it was just so horrible, what it did to the kids, what it did to my wife, because they were really fantastic. I had the most extraordinary family that anyone could ever dream of.”

So what did he learn from the indiscretion?

“I think that you learn that one stupid mistake that maybe you think is good, that moment can really destroy a lot of things and can hurt a lot of people that don’t deserve to be hurt like that.”

The actor said that he is working on rebuilding the relationship between him and his ex-wife and children. “I’m doing everything I can to work on that because I want to get them back together again because I think we were such a terrific family and just because of my doing and doing this stupid thing, I got into the situation that I’m in.”

It looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger really isn’t holding anything back in his new memoir.

In Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, the 65-year-old confirms an affair he had more than 20 years ago with actress Brigitte Nielsen, the Associated Press reported over the weekend.

Schwarzenegger and Nielsen starred in the 1985 picture Red Sonja.

According to the AP, the former governor of California confesses in his memoir that he indeed had a “hot affair” with Nielsen, but the “fling” only made him realize his true feelings for then girlfriend Maria Shriver. Schwarzenegger and Shriver were dating at the time and were already living together.

But this isn’t the first time Schwarzenegger’s affair with Nielsen has made headlines.

In 2011, Nielsen released her own memoir that included details of her romantic relationship with the action movie star.

“We both knew that it wouldn’t last beyond the movie, we didn’t hold back . . . we wanted to try everything and so we did. There were no restrictions, no promises, nothing, and it was a great time in my life,” Nielsen wrote.

This is the first time Schwarzenegger has admitted to the affair.

Nielsen, now 49, was briefly married to Sylvester Stallone in the mid ‘80s. The Danish actress and musician has since appeared in a number of small films and in 2008, appeared on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew to overcome her addiction to alcohol.

As Celebuzz reported earlier this week, Total Recall also includes details on how Shriver confronted Schwarzenegger about his infamous affair with Mildred Baena and the secret son he had with his housekeeper.

The confrontation occurred during a couples’ therapy session.

“The minute we sat down, the therapist turned to me and said, ‘Maria wanted o come here today and ask about a child — whether you fathered a child with your housekeeper Mildred,’” Schwarzenegger writes in his memoir.

Total Recall comes out Oct. 1.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is letting it all out in his new memoir Total Recall — including how ex-wife Maria Shriver confronted him about his secret son with his housekeeper, Mildred Baena.

The Expendables 2 star lays out exactly how he was blindsided during a couples’ therapy session in the 624-page autobiography, writing, “The minute we sat down, the therapist turned to me and said, ‘Maria wanted to come here today and to ask about a child — whether you fathered a child with your housekeeper Mildred.”

He continues in his book:

“I told the therapist, ‘It’s true.’”

In the transcript obtained by ABC News, Schwarzenegger reveals that his former wife found out about his secret son on Jan. 4, 2011, just one day after his  term as governor of California came to an end.

Schwarzenegger says he then started groveling, telling his wife that he had “screwed up” and that she was the “perfect wife.” However, his pleas didn’t work and Shriver filed for divorce in the following months.

The former bodybuilder writes that he had sex with Baena in 1996 while Shriver and their kids were away on vacation, and spent the following years trying to convince himself that her son Joseph was not his.

“I realized there was little doubt that he was my son,” he writes in the tell-all after seeing the boy’s resemblance to his own appearance.

Schwarzenegger is the father of five children: Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher with Shriver, and Joseph from his tryst with Baena.

Though the 65-year-old and Shriver, 56, officially announced their separation May 9, 2011, the Austrian actor writes that he hopes to reunite and reconcile with his ex-wife.

“You can call this denial,” he says. “But it’s the way my mind works.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s son Patrick is getting a little advice from his famous father on how to make it in Hollywood: Be prepared.

In fact, the Expendables 2 star said that’s just what it’ll take if the 19-year-old wants to get into the family business.

What exactly is Arnold’s advice?

“You have to have a lot of endurance, a lot of positive thinking and thick skin,” he told Celebuzz at the Los Angeles End of Watch premiere.

Patrick has been in the spotlight since he was a child, launching his philanthropic clothing line at the age of 15 before signing on with L.A. Models.

In July, the teen added to his resume by shooting his first feature film, Grown Ups 2. The current University of Southern California student was spotted on set filming scenes with Twilight heartthrob Taylor Lautner.

Patrick Schwarzenegger is only 17, but he is already making strides in the business world!

Not only has he spent his summer interning at popular LA shopping spot the Grove, but he has his own (charitable) fashion line!

Patrick tweeted this photo of himself, along with some of his business partners, and a no doubt proud papa Arnold, at the Las Vegas fashion trade show, Magic.

“Showing my dad around the project show here I’n [sic] Vegas.”

Patrick is one of the founders of Project360, whose mission (according to their site):

“Project360 apparel and accessories use fashion as a vehicle to generate social awareness of important global issues such as Alzheimer’s Disease, cancer and children in need.”

Wow! To say this kid has a good head on his shoulders would be an understatement!
