Dancing With the Stars host Brooke Burke-Charvet says she’s feeling “great” about a month after completing treatment for thyroid cancer.

“It’s a new year, new time,” Burke-Charvet, who had a thyroidectomy in December, told Celebuzz on Wednesday.

“I’m also really fortunate that everything went so well and that it’s over. Honestly, it’s kind of back to business as usual — just a new part of the story, I guess.”

“I’ve never been one to take life for granted, in health or anything like that,” the mother-of-four continued.

“Certainly it was scary, especially for somebody like me; I feel like I have such a healthy lifestyle. Life is precious. I really decided to make it a positive [thing] and bring awareness to it. That’s why I went public and shared my story.

“I plan to get involved in a big way, whether it’s with children — I’m looking at a children’s cancer camp right now — and just trying to decide what the best use of my time and message will be. I’m just very blessed and fortunate right now.”

In the meantime, the 41-year-old beauty is staying busy as ever. On her list: teaming up with Kleenex for its Care Pack campaign, designed to help people get through this season’s nasty cold and flu season with its many useful products.

“I’ve been a Kleenex brand fan for awhile; I use a lot of the products with my family,” she said. “They asked me to help them kick off the celebrity surprise care package delivery … I actually showed up to someone’s house [today], unannounced; his fiancé entered him in the sweepstakes and he won. He was a little under the weather. So I showed up with the cameras to surprise him and bring him a really nice care package. It was a very, very sweet gesture just to help his recovery be a little easier. It’s got all kinds of goodies in there.”

Brooke-Charvet also says she’s looking forward to another dose of Dancing With the Stars, which kicks of season 16 on March 18.

“I love it; it’s so fun,” she said. “I’m looking forward to learning who the cast is. I honestly don’t know anything! This is about the time when the rumors are everywhere. We should be announcing in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to hear who the cast is going to be.”

“They do such a great job with the casting, so I have faith. But hopefully we’ll get some shockers this season!”

In a new blog post for Modern Mom, Dancing With the Stars co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet writes about the struggle she had with telling her four children she has thyroid cancer.

“I decided not to tell my children about my diagnosis for as long as I possibly could because I didn’t want them to worry,” she wrote of her four children, daughters Neriah, 12, Sierra, 10, and Rain, 5, and son Shaya, 4.

Eventually, though, she had to break the news, to which each child reacted differently.

“My son is four, and I doubt he totally understands. His response was, ‘Is Daddy going to get it too?” She wrote. “And of course I explained that wasn’t going to happen and Mommy was going to be just fine. He laid in bed last night with David, kinda sad and said, ‘I don’t want Mommy to die…..’. That’s the stuff that breaks my heart and scares me. We both held him and told him that I wasn’t going to leave him ever.”

Despite the personal heartbreak, Burke-Charvet says her cancer scare is already teaching her new things about herself.

“What I’m learning how to do now is say yes more than I say no …” she writes. “Now I find myself truly in a place of need and a little bit out of control knowing that I have to put my condition in someone else’s hand, and that I’m actually going to have to step down and let other people step up. Knowing that I have such a supportive village around me is really comforting – more than I ever would have imagined.”

“I’m not afraid anymore,” she continues. “I think I’ve been dealing with it so much the past couple months that now I’m ready to just get it done and put this behind me. My only need is being ok for my husband and my children so they don’t have to go through any pain and making this as easy as possible for them.”

Burke-Charvet, 41, announced she’s battling thyroid cancer in November.

On Thursday, she tweeted her first reaction since having surgery, saying, “Thank God it’s over. I’m clean, surgery went well & I can talk. Losing My voice was my biggest fear. Thx for all your prayers & light.”

“I’m resting, recovering. Surgery went well. Dr Adashek is a genius. Thx Dr! Feels like I got hit my [sic] a car :(”
