Who says you need to turn to the sliver screen to enjoy a good scare?  Some of the most frightening moments in Hollywood history have actually come courtesy of our old friend: television.

In today’s gallery, we spend some quality time in front of the TV to compile our list of the scariest show episodes ever.

From classics like Twilight Zone to cult favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we chose our favorites based on originality, style and straight-up scares per minute.

With shows like Girls, Go On and The New Normal, television has hit its all-time high of gay, bisexual and transgender characters.

Hollywood bringing homosexuality into the homes across the country is not altogether new, considering the same-sex themes that played out on the small screen in such still-beloved hits as Will & Grace, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Six Feet Under.

But in recent years, series have shone a brighter spotlight on same-sex couples, from Grey’s Anatomy‘s wedding lesbian couple Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins to Modern Family‘s child-rearing fathers, Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Scott Tucker.

While it may not have been any calculated campaign, television has certainly had a hand in bringing gay into the country’s consciousness, raising awareness and even acceptance of homosexuality amongst Americans.

Now the Supreme Court is tackling two cases on the matter of gay marriage: the constitutionality of Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that bans same-sex marriage, and a challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act, a federal law that defines marriage as the union of a man and woman.

So as the nation awaits a ruling, Celebuzz is taking a look at 10 same-sex TV couples that prove all people deserve the right to wed whomever they please.

What makes for great quirky TV? Shows that always surprise, have a stellar cast and take a totally fresh approach to their subject matter, even if they don’t always destroy ratings records. Our favorites may never appeal to the “mainstream,” but they’ll always have a special place in our hearts.
