Celebuzz fashion expert Art Conn gave us his worst dressed list — presented in the gallery above. Celebuzz got a chance to sit down with the talented actress earlier this week to discuss her role in Hanna (which hits theaters this weekend) and how she feels about playing such a strong character.

“I like the idea of playing strong female roles,” Saoirse told a group of reporters in New York. ” I think we need characters like that and women in particular seem to really respond well to [Hanna].”

In the film, Saoirse plays a 16-year-old girl who has been living with her father (played by the very hunky Eric Bana) in a remote area of Finland for almost her entire life. Hanna knows little about the outside world but eventually forces her father to let her escape the icy tundra of Lapland and experience real life. Unfortunately, this means that Hanna must battle one very determined special agent (played to perfection by the always excellent Cate Blanchett) and several other nasty characters who want her destroyed. Luckily for Hanna, her father has been training her to do battle for her entire life.

When asked what it was like to watch herself kicking butt on the big screen, the young star suddenly becomes very animated: “It was cool! I was very excited. It was very exciting to watch me fight because I’ve never fought anyone!”

Training for the film was a rigorous process, involving Saoirse to learn karate, archery and how to hold and fire a gun as if she had been popping glocks her whole life. Saoirse likens the fight sequences to ballet choreography and admits that she had to spend two hours at the gym every day in order to match with Hannah’s superhuman abilities.

Although she admits that she was “too young” to watch everyone’s favorite teen action hero, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Saoirse does admire other female characters who don’t shy away from a fight.

“There are certain female characters in action films that I love like the Bride in Kill Bill. I think she’s really interesting because love is basically her motivation and the fight sequences in all those films are really great. And she’s different as well and I like that, I think Hanna is like that as well.”

When asked what she wants young women to take away from the film, Saoirse answers “Strength,” but giggles that she doesn’t want to sound too cheesy.

“I walked away from the film very excited,” said Saoirse “I like that she stays a freak and kind of weird.”

Hanna, directed by Joe Wright, is currently in theaters nationwide.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button actress wore a lilac Givenchy Haute Couture dress from the fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The dress featured a beaded body with a giant circle cut out around the actress’ chest that revealed pretty pleated purple silk. The actress accessorized the unique dress with a simple gold bracelet.

The Aussie thespian has a history of looking stunning on the red carpet.

However, Oscar-winner Blanchett, 39, wore a bell-shaped, sparkling metallic Alexander McQueen outfit to the Los Angeles event the other night, causing her to look more like a Christmas tree than a leading lady.

But at Wednesday’s Button premiere, Cate stunned crowds at Australia’s Sydney Theatre with her shimmering green Balenciaga gown.

Last Friday, the Elizabeth actress was honored with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Up next for Blanchett is Wes Anderson‘s The Fantastic Mr. Fox, in which she stars opposite George Clooney, Bill Murray and Anjelica Huston. It’s due in theaters in November 2009.

Thirty-nine-year-old Fashionista’s Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lopez seem to have magically swapped places.

Lopez, who has been on a slow climb reclaiming her body and career since the birth of adorable twins Max and Emme, has finally hit a red carpet stride. After a series of over-the-top misses, Lopez delivers the goods reminiscent of her glory days.

In a stunning white Roberto Cavalli Grecian-gown, Mrs. Marc Anthony showed a bust and body that no mother of twins should have, a gorgeous bright face and hair worthy of a true diva.

Blanchett, on the other hand, always the impossible combination of a fan and critic fave, confused viewers in a bell-shaped Alexander McQueen number complete with micro-metallic detail and matronly flesh-tone cropped leggings.

Where’s the accounting for the fashion Freaky Friday?

Perhaps Lopez is ready to reclaim her crown, and Blanchett is resting on her laurels?

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) released its list of nominees for the 14th Critics’ Choice Awards today. The Critics’ Choice will “honor the finest achievements in 2008 filmmaking.”

The CCAs have traditionally been a good indicator of upcoming Academy Awards nominations. The list is considered the kickoff point for the film industry’s awards season.

Pineapple Express actress Rosie Perez was on hand at MTV Network Studios in New York City to announce the contenders.

Among the flicks battling for Best Picture are the Clint Eastwood-directed, Angelina Jolie-starring historical crime epic Changeling, Brad Pitt‘s aging-in-reverse drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Mickey Rourke‘s comeback bid The Wrestler.

(Will the competition lead to tension in the crowded Jolie-Pitt household?)

Eastwood gets another nod for Best Actor in the urban drama Gran Torino. He has stiff competition in the form of Sean Penn (Milk) and Brad Pitt (Benjamin Button).

Those vying for the Best Actress slot include Jolie (Changeling), Cate Blanchett (Benjamin Button), Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) and Kate Beckinsale (Nothing But the Truth).

Angelina looked simple yet elegant with her hair slicked back and in a black, strapless Versace dress complimented by dangling gold earrings by Ralph Lauren.

Companion Brad sported a Tom Ford tux with an almost 70s-era size bowtie and the Oil Can Harry mustache he’s been wearing for his film with Quentin Tarantino (Inglorious Basterds).

The couple graciously signed autographs for fans. Jolie reportedly almost fell over the crowd-control railings at one point during the signing.

Celebs in attendance included Button co-stars Cate Blanchett, 39, (a recent Hollywood Walk of Fame star recipient) in an Alexander McQueen beige dress with a jewel-encrusted overlay. A flowy Tilda Swinton, 48, wafted in with a peach, beige and white striped Rodarte gown.

Jennifer Lopez pursed her lips in her usual “come, hither to the J. Lo” pose and looked slinky in white, as Eva Longoria went with royal-blue silk.

Also on the red carpet were Brad’s parents, Bill and Jane Pitt, who posed for pictures with their son and his companion.

Rumors abound that Jane Pitt has remained good friends with Brad’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston (an admitted big fan of Brad’s new film), but it appears as if Mrs. Pitt has accepted her son’s new love, and the mother of his children.

The movie, based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story written in the 1920s about an 80-year-old man who ages backward and experiences romance (with Blanchett and Swinton) and loss, is already garnering Oscar buzz.

The LA Times raves about “an astonishing film that gets you thinking about love, time, aging, youth, impermanence, relationships, faith, communication and all the people who’ve had an impact—big or small—in your life.”

The special effects used to make Brad age backward in the film are also receiving astounded praise.

Pitt and 46-year-old director David Fincher appear to have a major hit on their hands, to go along with their previous successes together: 1995′s Se7en and Fight Club from 1999.

The ethereal redhead has dazzled as Queen Elizabeth the First (twice), as Galadiel (the otherworldly friend of the Hobbits in the Lord of the Rings trilogy), and as a mother-of-two, married schoolteacher who has an affair with an underage student (Notes on a Scandal).

In all her screen appearances, from Babel to I’m Not There to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the 39-year-old Oscar winner (Supporting Actress for 2004′s The Aviator) inhabits her characters with a deep ease that brings to life fully formed, natural human beings.

So why is such an esteemed artist down on her knees on grimy old Hollywood Boulevard?

Because on Friday afternoon, Blanchett was awarded Star number 2,376 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

An attraction to tourists worldwide, the Walk of Fame was inaugurated in 1960, with the first star going to Paul Newman‘s long-time wife, Joanne Woodward.

The sidewalks of Hollywood honor cinema’s highest caliber of star. Ms. Blanchett, married to 42-year-old writer Andrew Upton and a mother of three, certainly deserves to be among them.

Her newest movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, with Brad Pitt, opens on Christmas Day.

Last week Oprah Winfrey, 54, had Jennifer Aniston, 39, on her show as a guest. “O” proceeded to grill the Marley & Me actress about  comments she made concerning ex-husband Brad Pitt and his current wife, 33-year-old Angelina Jolie in the December issue of Vogue.

This week, it was Brad getting grilled on the Oprah Winfrey Show—only the squirm-inducing questions were coming from a fan who’d skyped in.

Pitt, 44, looked noticeably uncomfortable as viewer Christina from Ontario, California—a self-professed fan of the Curious Case Of Benjamin Button actor for 17 years—asked him about his body art.

“My question is, how many tattoos do you have?” she queried. “I’m very interested in knowing the meaning—especially the ice man, and the new one that you have under the Daniel Pearl quote.”

Much to the audience’s delight, Brad’s Button co-star and fellow Oprah guest Cate Blanchett joined in on the fun, asking Brad to show his tattoos.

When Brad blanches, Christina mock-threatens, “I know you’ve got one on your tummy! Don’t make me go there.”

Uh, make you go there?

For the massive salaries these stars receive, the return on investment to movie studios seems to be very meager.

New mom Nicole Kidman tops the overpaid list.

“Kidman’s films earn a mere $1 for every dollar Kidman was paid, compared with $8 in 2007. The Invasion, a second remake of the 1956 classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers, actually lost $2.68 for every dollar Kidman earned,” the magazine reports.

Other costly ineffective stars include Kidman’s ex Tom Cruise ($4 return for every dollar he was paid, Lions for Lambs anyone?) and Cameron Diaz (her films made $4 for every dollar Diaz earned between 2006 and 2007 which totalled $50 million in income for her).

The pregnant Jennifer Garner better step it up. For every dollar she was paid to star in the 2006 comedy Catch and Release, the film earned 34 cents. Ouch!

Other actors on the list include Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, Nicholas Cage (no one went to see Ghost Rider? Shocking.), Drew Barrymore, Will Ferrell and Cate Blanchett.

These actors better hope that the studios don’t subscribe to Forbes. There could be some major downsizing goin’ on.

Blanchett and her husband, playwright/director Andrew Upton, attended the Helpmann Awards in Sydney Sunday night. The Helpmanns “recognize distinguished artistic achievements and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia’s vibrant live performance sectors.”

The cleavage-baring beauty and the puppy-eyed wordsmith have been married since September 1997 and have three kids.

Good for you, Cate! In a too-often-superficial business, you’ve demolished stereotypes and offered every bridge-dwelling hunchback hope that he, too, might land a cinema queen someday.

Which, like your devotion to environmentalism, is very noble indeed.
