The teen star was admitted to a treatment center in November to help deal with an eating disorder and what she now describes as a “nervous breakdown,” and on Thursday she took to Twitter to say a few kind words about someone else in the spotlight who is struggling with some issues of their own.

Demi expressed her concern for Catherine Zeta-Jones, who recently decided to check into a mental health facility to receive treatment for bipolar II disorder, saying:

I don’t know Catherine Zeta-Jones personally but what she has decided to do it SO brave.. And SO difficult but worth it… I’m proud of her.

The 18-year-old may not be diagnosed with that herself, but sending out a message to the struggling star is nothing short of a class-act move.

Never fear, as the Black Swan star should find plenty of inspiration from the Hollywood leading ladies who have brought their pregnancy glow to the Oscars’ red carpet without sacrificing a bit of style. Not to mention the fact that baby bumps provided the ultimate good luck charms for a few expectant Academy Award winners.

According to reports, Angelina Jolie and Catherine Zeta-Jones are both in contention to play movie legend Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming biopic about Taylor’s marriage to Richard Burton. The movie, to be directed by Mike Nichols (The Graduate, Catch-22), will be based on the Sam Kashner/Nancy Schroenberger biography Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and the Marriage of the Century.

Though both actresses have reportedly expressed interest in the role, Jolie might have a slight edge: The Salt actress recently landed the part of Cleopatra, perhaps Taylor’s most famous role.

As for the role of Burton—who died in 1984 of a brain hemorrhage at the age of 58—producers are said to be eyeing Russell Crowe, Clive Owen and Colin Farrell as possibilities.

Former NBA player Charles Barkley was arrested for DUI early this morning in Arizona, according to TMZ. The award-winning and outspoken player, who reportedly plans to run for governor of Alabama in 2014, was arrested by Gilbert County Police at a DUI checkpoint, and released this morning on bail.

Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is planning a sequel to his megahit musical The Phantom of the Opera in 2009, and says that he already has the actor who is going to replace Michael Crawford in the role of “the Phantom” in mind, according to Page Six. “We are pretty clear who our Phantom is going to be – I can’t say who,” he said. London’s The Times speculates that actors Hugh Jackman and Gerard Butler are reportedly the top contenders for the role.

NFL player Larry Fitzgerald, the wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals, has been ordered to stay away from his girlfriend and 11-month old son after a domestic dispute reportedly turned violent, according to TMZ. Fitzgerald is alleged to have thrown Angela Nazario against a wall and pulled her hair out after she brought their son for a visit in October. In legal papers, Nazario claims that Fitzgerald “grabbed me by my hair with both hands on the back of my head very very hard and tossed me across the room.” Reps for Fitzgerald had no comment.

Director/producer Stephen Soderbergh is reportedly planning a 3-D musical version of Cleopatra starring Hugh Jackman and Catherine Zeta-Jones called Cleo. Page Six reports that Soderbergh describes the spectacle as “our version [of the Cleopatra story] will be like an Elvis musical in 3D. It’s a total rock ‘n’ roll, 1966 aesthetic – like ‘Viva Las Vegas’ meets ‘Tommy. I’ve wanted my whole career to make a musical. And the 3D makes it more challenging but makes it more fun.”

But as these shocking photos from last night’s 2008 Global Leadership Awards Gala at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York indicate, the process has been proceeding at a rate that nobody could have imagined.

Good God, Cathy—are those gin blossoms? Or did you just place your face  directly against the bulb of a tanning lamp for, oh, 20 hours or so?

And this is the woman who represents Elizabeth Arden’s Intervene line, which supposedly “addresses first signs of aging and helps maintain skin’s radiance and natural glow”?

Perhaps the company should start looking for a more youthful face to represent its line.

Catherine Zeta-Jones seemed ready to chuck in Portofino, Italy, Thursday, as she and husband Michael Douglas continued their vacation. (Wednesday found the globetrotting couple in St. Tropez.)

Maybe this explains why the Welsh-born actress has been aging at a dramatic rate recently. Maybe Douglas hasn’t been literally draining her youth from a hole in her spine, as previous believed.

Looks like someone might owe you an apology, Mike.

Clearly, the gulf of years between them is rapidly eroding. They look like they’re almost the same age!

Douglas must be extracting the Zeta-Jones stem cells while she sleeps and mixing them into his gin and tonics.

There’s no other way to explain how she’s gone from this to this so suddenly.
