The woman who helped transform Katie Holmes from an unknown teenager to an international star believes that she still has a burning desire to succeed as an actress.

The National Enquirer claimed the Dawson’s Creek actress was ready to quit Hollywood and enroll in law school after she was spotted sitting in a New York courtroom on Jan. 9 watching her prosecutor pal, Leigh Bishop, deliver an opening statement.

“Katie is a very ambitious woman, but I don’t think she would ever give up acting,” Margaret O’Brien, who ran a charm and etiquette school in Toledo, Ohio that Holmes once attended, told Celebuzz.

34-year-old Holmes has reportedly grown “tired with acting” and wanted to study law — she was previously accepted for New York’s Columbia University before landing a lead role on hit TV sitcom Dawson’s Creek.

But O’Brien said she does not believe that her one-time protege is ready to turn her back on acting yet.

“Katie always loved acting it was something that she really wanted to do; she worked very hard to get herself established and I’m sure she still has goals to achieve,” the actress’ former mentor revealed.

O’Brien taught Holmes from the age of 14 at her Toledo modeling school before taking her to New York to compete in the International Modeling And Talent Association quest in 1996. It was that event that helped launch her acting career.

But since her divorce from Tom Cruise last June, the single mom has seen her career somewhat stall: Her Broadway play Dead Accounts closing prematurely on January 6 after receiving lukewarm reviews.

In another career setback, it was revealed this week that Holmes and her fashion partner, Jeanne Yang, will not be taking their label Holmes & Yang to New York Fashion Week in February.

Fueling the legal rumors, Holmes’ father Martin Holmes runs a successful law firm in Toledo that specializes in divorce law. He was credited with helping his daughter secure such a smooth divorce from Cruise, 50.

“Katie never showed a great interest in law although it runs in the family as both her father and brother are successful lawyers,” O’Brien said.

“People should not underestimate how ambitious Katie is and I don’t think her acting career fully blossomed while she was married to Tom Cruise.

“She loves acting and I could not really see her giving that up lightly. Despite her girl next door image, Katie is a very headstrong person and if she ever did decide to take-up law I’m sure she would be a success at that too.”

And in another sign Holmes is not ready to swap the silver screen for a courtroom, she has two upcoming film roles inked.

She will star opposite Chase Crawford in the romantic comedy Responsible Adults while she is also slated for a part in the family drama provisionally titled the Christian Camargo Project, alongside Allison Janey and William Hurt.

A 100 episodes is a huge milestone for any TV series as it usually signifies that the show could be syndicated in the future. Here’s to many more Gossip Girl our TV sets soon!

One boy down, so many others to come. Or so it seemed, as Carrie Underwood spiced up the Idol Gives Back red carpet with a nugget to Extra that she and Gossip Girl gewgaw Chace Crawford “broke up over text, so it’s like ‘peace out.’”

Ouch! And mind you, the season 4 winner of American Idol never even confirmed that the two were dating. For weeks we watched them parallel dine a deux throughout New York and L.A., never allowing their hot little fingers to touch, lest they be ratted out by a ‘razzo.

According to Chace’s little sister and Miss USA contender Candice Crawford, “He was upset about the breakup. It’s always hard when you lose a relationship.”
