From red carpets to movie sets, Hollywood has been keeping super busy in the past 24 hours.

Zoe Saldana hit all the right fashion notes in a sheer nude Rodarte dress for the L.A. premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness. The 34-year-old actress was joined by her co-stars Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine and Alice Eve for the star-studded event. Tom Cruise, who’s been on a world promo tour for his film Oblivion, was also spotted at the Star Trek premiere.

On the east coast, Chris Evans and his muscles were the center of attention on the Washington, D.C. set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The hunky actor’s co-star Anthony Mackie was also on set.

Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth were spotted in New York City as they grabbed breakfast to go. The Oscar-winning actress is back to her blonde mane after dying it brown for her new film The Good Lie.

In honor of Mother’s Day, Celebuzz is taking a closer look at some of Hollywood’s most talented men and the amazing mothers who brought them into the world.

For actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper, bringing mom as a red carpet date to the latest award show or movie premiere isn’t anything out of the ordinary.

In the music world, Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber have always had a fan in their moms Lynn Harless and Pattie Mallette, respectively.

“Everybody knows I love #MyMom!,” Bieber wrote on Twitter this week, along with a plug for 1-800 Flowers.com. “Mother’s Day is on Sunday! Love your momma! Love u @pattiemallette.”

Drake is so close to his mom Sandi Graham, she had a cameo in his music video for “Started From The Bottom,” a song about the singer’s life before he made it big.

Chris Evans just dropped over $3.5 million on some new Hollywood Hills digs and after some over-the-top renovations it’s now fit for the on-screen superhero.

Previously on the market for $1.795, it wasn’t until the skilled hands of designers Stewart-Gulrajani worked their magic on the 1940’s fixer-upper located in the celebrity-rich enclave of Laurel Canyon that it doubled in price.

The once dilapidated 4-bedroom, 3-bath home looks brand spanking new with a new coat of paint — and a whole new feel.

The overhaul features a landscaped viewing perch, pool, fire pit, and an ipe deck. (Not sure quite what that is, but it sounds fancy.)

Han Solo gave Harrison Ford his big break, with 1977′s A New Hope. To call the role an iconic one would be an understatement; every kid then (and now) wanted to be him. Sure, Luke has his lightsaber. But Solo has the Millennium Falcon. And that vest!

Those are obviously some very big space boots to fill. Since the character will be getting the “Batman Begins” treatment, with audiences seeing a young Solo in action in the years between Episodes III and IV, we limited our casting picks to those rising stars no older than 30.

Hayley Atwell fans will be disappointed: after playing Steve Rogers’ WWII-era love interest in Captain America, Atwell will not reprise the role of Peggy Carter opposite Chris Evans now that the hero has been thawed out for modern-day adventures. Instead, Emily VanCamp was cast as Cap’s female counterpart in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Deadline reported Friday.

VanCamp is best known for her role on TV’s Revenge, and for her turns on series such as Brothers & Sisters and Everwood.

The Winter Soldier hasn’t begun shooting yet, but its April 14, 2014 release date is looming. Anthony and Joe Russo are directing the follow-up, which explores Captain America’s struggle to come to terms with the modern world and his role in it as a superhero.

Currently, Sebastian Stan is set to reprise his role as James “Bucky” Barnes, as is Toby Jones, who plays HYDRA scientist Arnim Zola. Meanwhile, Avengers stars Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson are also reportedly slated to appear in the film. Also joining the ensemble is Anthony Mackie, who will play Sam Wilson, also known as Falcon.

Emma Stone is going to have some company in Guillermo Del Toro‘s upcoming haunted house thriller, Crimson Peak. Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam is in early talks to reunite with his Pacific Rim director for the Legendary Pictures release. Story details are being kept top-secret, but we do know that this Gothic horror film is set in London and is aiming to start production in February 2014. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s directorial debut made a significant mark on Sundance 2013, and soon the rest of the moviegoing public will be able to see it.

On Monday, Relativity Media bought U.S. rights to distribute Gordon-Levitt’s porn addiction comedy, Don Jon’s Addiction - which JGL also wrote and stars in. The film will hit theaters this summer. ”I couldn’t be happier, it’s what I always wanted for this movie,” Gordon-Levitt said on his website, hitRECord. Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum also star. [Deadline]

Artist Drew Struzan has designed posters for every franchise from Indiana Jones to Star Wars, and the latter just might draw him out of retirement. In an interview on Monday, Struzan revealed that Disney recently contacted him about creating marketing materials for the new Star Wars trilogy. But will he do it? “I guess there is always a chance,” Struzan said. “There’s no intention. … If the opportunity arises, it will be a real temptation.” Please do it, Mr. Struzan. Just so we don’t have to endure the sound of nerds crying. [Vulture]

Chris Evans isn’t the only Captain America star who will be reprising his role for the sequel. Toby Jones confirmed that he will once again play the villainous Arnim Zola in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The sequel takes places years after the WWII-set first film, which implies that Jones’ character will most likely be seen via flashback. Soldier, which also features The Hurt Locker‘s Anthony Mackie as good guy Falcon, opens on April 4, 2014. First, it was dueling volcano movies. Then planet-killing asteroid/comet pictures. Now, Hollywood has two competing John McAfee movies in the works. Running in the Background, from Equinoxe Films, is a $28 million feature based on the life of the wealthy tech wiz-turned-global fugitive. Background comes in the wake after Warner Bros. announcement to release their own McAfee project written and directed by Crazy, Stupid, Love‘s John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, based on a Wired Magazine article. Release dates for both projects are pending. [Deadline]

Of all the harsh realities made clear by the gender gap, perhaps the truest is that – as of this Friday – girlfriends everywhere will be dragged reluctantly to see The Hobbit. This time, however, Peter Jackson’s journey through Middle Earth has been stripped of its eye-candy, swapping Orlando Bloom and Viggo Mortensen for a handful of dwarves, Dr. Watson and a geezer. While the movie will no doubt be epic, the real scenery will undoubtedly be just that: the actual scenery.

Many of the actors on Celebuzz’ list certainly had credits prior to their turns in fantasy films – Mortensen worked steadily as a supporting player for more than a decade before striking paydirt with the Lord of the Rings series, for example.

And although many of them have gone on to even greater glories, they first became popular in the public consciousness because of these projects. On the other hand, some of them may never surpass the success they enjoyed with these films and film series. But as cinephiles and avid filmgoers, we’re only too happy to celebrate – and maybe in a few cases, reintroduce – the sci-fi-, horror and fantasy films that helped the world fall in love with them.

The duo hit the town for a dinner date at Craig’s restaurant in West Hollywood, Calif. on Monday night, sparking rumors that they’ve reignited their romance.

But the 32-year-old actress isn’t quite ready to go public with the Avengers star, 31 — she hid her face as she left the eatery out the back exit.

This isn’t the first time they’ve been spotted together recently.

The pair enjoyed each other’s company back in August, when they were seen in and around Evan’s hometown of Boston before heading to New York to catch The Book of Mormon on Broadway.

Kelly dated Yankee’s star Derek Jeter for three years before they split in August 2011; she was then reported to be dating That 70′s Show’s Wilmer Valderrama.

Evans, 31, has had his fair share of Hollywood romances too — he’s been linked to the likes of Kate Bosworth, Jessica Biel, Gisele Bundchen and Stacy Keibler.

The wait is finally over… or is this just beginning?

Looks like you’re going to have to put your Captain America shield in a safe place for a few more years because Disney’s highly anticipated sequel to Marvel’s The Avengers isn’t hitting theaters for a while.

When will the Avengers assemble for the sequel?

The Avengers sequel is slated for a heroic comeback on May 1, 2015, Disney confirmed Thursday. The studio released the following statement:

The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the biggest Super Hero blockbuster and third highest grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers. Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the UNTITLED MARVEL’S AVENGERS SEQUEL set for release May 1, 2015.

Avengers screenwriter and director Joss Whedon recently signed an exclusive film and television deal with Marvel through June 2015. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, under this deal, Whedon is contractually obligated to write and direct The Avengers 2.

The superhero flick has currently grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing film of all-time.

Comic-Con 2012 is officially underway, and to celebrate, Celebuzz is looking back at some of the event’s best moments from years past.

So what moments made our all-time best list?

Captain America Co-Creator Attends First Annual Comic-Con (1970)

More than a decade before the birth of Chris Evans (better known to movie audiences as Captain America), the artist behind the star-spangled crusader stepped out in front of 300 fans at the first Comic-Con. Jack Kirby also had a hand in creating numerous other Marvel Comics characters, including Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the original X-Men. (See his collaborator Stan Lee in the video, below.)

George Lucas Debuts Star Wars Poster (1976)

These days, directors bring footage of their blockbusters to screen at Comic-Con, but back in 1976 George Lucas brought just a poster for Star Wars, which would open a year later.

Angelina and Halle Bring Oscar Swagger  (2003)

Oscar winners Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry both had movies to plug at Comic-Con 2003. The two promoted Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life and Gothika, respectively.

Quentin Tarantino Makes Surprise Kill Bill Visit (2003)

Some of the best Comic-Con moments are the ones that aren’t on the schedule. When Quentin Tarantino stopped by to promote his Kill Bill films, fans were treated to a buzz-making appearance from the iconic director.

Samuel L. Jackson’s Pumps Snakes on a Plane (2005)

Snakes on a Plane had quite a viral campaign, complete with hilarious robocalls from Samuel L. Jackson himself. The film came into Comic-Con with considerable buzz, and Jackson shined promoting the film.

The Dark Knight Joker Campaign (2007)

With just days to go until Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film hits theaters, it’s hard to believe it’s been five years since The Dark Knight hit Comic-Con. Back then, Heath Ledger’s Joker was shrouded in mystery — so fans who had Joker dollars slipped into their pockets must have been doubly curious to follow the clues leading to a Batman viral campaign.

Iron Man Makes Surprise Visit (2007)

In a banner year for superheroes, director Jon Favreau unexpectedly showed up with the first trailer for Iron Man. Favreau has since been hailed as a master of the convention, after bringing well-received footage for his films Iron Man 2 and Cowboys & Aliens.

Twilight Hysteria (2008)

A few months before the movie-going world was introduced to power couple Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, the crowd in San Diego felt the full force of Twilight. Tickets to the panel became a much sought-after item, as fans fought for a glimpse of actors playing their beloved characters on the big screen.

Tron Sequel Announced (2008)

Disney let it be known that a Tron sequel was happening in a stealthy way. The studio showed footage, which progressively seemed  more and more familiar to fans of the 1982 original. The money shot came when a younger, CG version of Jeff Bridges was revealed, confirming that Tron was back, and so was its star.

James Cameron Returns with Avatar (2009)

After directing Titanic, once the highest-grossing film ever, James Cameron waited 14 years before taking the director’s chair again. He brought a 20-minute, 3D clip of Avatar to San Diego and received rave reviews for its immersive experience. The film would eventually topple Titanic’s box office gross.

Dr. Who and Torchwood Stars Kiss (2009)

Talk about a TV crossover event. Fans were already excited to see the leads of sci-fi favorites Dr. Who and Torchwood onstage. But when the show’s two stars David Tennant and John Barrowman kissed, they went nuts. Someone call a doctor, please.

Avengers Assemble! (2010)

Two years before The Avengers became a box office behemoth, its cast appeared at Comic-Con. Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffallo, Clark Gregg and director Joss Whedon stormed Hall H to screen footage of Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor.

Harry Potter Makes Convention Debut (2010)

It may surprise you, but the Harry Potter franchise didn’t make it to Comic-Con until 2010. Even though the cast didn’t appear, fans were treated to a sneak peak of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Emotional Chuck Farewell (2011)

The cast and creators of Chuck always did well at Comic-Con, but their 2011 appearance was particularly bittersweet for fans — NBC had already announced the show’s fifth season would be its last, and star Zachary Levi broke down in tears, thanking fans for their support. Ballroom 20 was packed, and thousands more fans waited outside.

Andrew Garfield Interrupts Spider-Man panel (2011)

In a genuine display of love for the character, Andrew Garfield interrupted The Amazing Spider-Man panel from the audience — all while wearing a cheap Spidey getup. He explained that he wanted to attend Comic-Con as a fan first, rather than as a cast member,  and went on to reveal how much Spider-Man meant to him. A year later, big-screen audiences generally approved of Garfield’s take on the wall crawler.

Just 19 days after its first theatrical release, the Disney flick reached another milestone by raking in $1 billion globally — making it the first time to reach nine digits in its second domestic weekend. The film had already previously broke the mold by beating out Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2‘s top spot for the biggest opening of all time.

What does this new record-breaking number entail?

For one, The Avengers will be back for more as studio head Bob Iger recently announced a sequel to the blockbuster. The follow-up will start filming after the release of the third Iron Man movie and Thor sequel in 2013 and Captain America‘s newest installment in 2014.

The Avengers now joins Avatar, Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as the selected few who has hit has hit the billion dollar mark globally.

Sorry, Potter fans! There’s a new champ at the box office.

The Avengers reportedly raked in a whopping $200.3 million since its Friday debut. This record-breaking number Hulk smashed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2‘s previous record of a $169.1 million opening weekend at the US box office.

What other movies has it knocked out?

The Marvel flick’s big weekend also surpassed The Dark Knight‘s $158.4 million opening and recent inductee The Hunger Games‘ $152.5 million debut. Both flicks now sit at third and fourth place respectively for the biggest opening weekend in history.

The Avengers, starring Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Evans, grossed a cool $18.7 million in midnight screenings alone before hitting gold with a $80.5 million Friday and $69.7 million Saturday.

The film is projected to make another $50.1 million on Sunday.

Overall, the movie grossed an estimated $641.8 million worldwide. It also broke records for the biggest opening weekend in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Central America, Bolivia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

The film’s success comes a month after Marvel and Disney announced a sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, which will be released April 4, 2014. A sequel to last summer’s Thor is scheduled for release November 15, 2013, while the third installment of the hit Iron Man series will arrive hit theaters May 3, 2013.

For now, many look to the Christopher Nolan-helmed The Dark Knight Rises as the next contender for box office domination. The film, based on DC Comics successful Batman series, is due out July 20.

Chris Evans stars in The Avengers, and during a sit down interview with Playboy, the Captain America actor revealed one movie that got away… to Ryan Gosling!

Any guesses as to which role Evans was upset he lost out on?

“I remember I really wanted that movie Fracture that Ryan Gosling ended up doing,” Chris revealed. “I had a really good audition, and the director and I had gotten along incredibly well. He called me and said, ‘Listen, you’re my guy for this thing.’ But Ryan was on the way up as well, and I think he just read it and liked it. And Anthony Hopkins was in it. You can’t beat working with him.

Before he was one of The Avengers, Chris Evans had another costumed persona — in the form of a drag act. 

We reached back to find one of his first major role in 2000, on a TV show called Opposite Sex. On the series, Chris played the lusty Cary Baston. The show centered around an all-girls school going coed.

In this classic scene from the pilot episode, Chris — along with Milo Ventimiglia and Kyle Howard — sing (not lipsynch) “I Will Survive” while dressed in drag. Is there any other way to do it? 

After watching this clip, we can’t imagine why it only lasted eight episodes before being canceled!

Celebuzz was front and center Thursday for the very first press conference for The Avengers, where most of the cast including Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo were in attendance.

Evans joked that even though he plays Captain America, he sort of brings up the rear when the superheros get together.

“I’m like, ‘Hulk you do this impossible thing, Thor you bottleneck a portal, Iron Man you fly over there…and I’ll just take the stairs.’” Chris told Celebuzz laughing.

So if he had to switch characters with one of the guys, who would he pick?

Oh man. See I want to say Iron Man becaause I love those movies, but who can do it better? Those shoes are too big to fill.

Downey, who was sitting alongside Chris gave a nod in agreement.

“I want to be Scarlett [Johansson]” chimed in Samuel L. Jackson. “I just want to be that cute for like, fifteen minutes.”

In all seriousness though, Chris liked that he had to be the grounded character on screen.

“That’s his role, it’s necessary,” Evans told reporters. “That’s kind of why I like it, because I’m used to cracking jokes and being a wise ass…it’s a fun character.”

When the cameras weren’t rolling, Chris and the gang definitely cut loss a bit, though!

“Chris [Evans] sent us a group text saying ‘Avengers Assemble!’ at such and such bar at 9 o’clock on a Saturday night,” Chris Hemsworth said, when asked why star Tom Hiddleston said the cast’s nickname on set was “group hug”. “That was a good group effort. We paid for it at work the next couple days.”

“You should see that group hug,” quipped Mark Ruffalo.

“Ya, 3 in the morning on the dance floor!” laughed Hemsworth.

The Avengers movie shut down Hollywood on Wednesday night with a star studded world premiere, and after the film, the cast all partied together at The Highlands. A couple hundred guests dined on sushi and short ribs, while sipping on wine and Red Bull cocktails.

Liam Hemsworth, 22, came out to support brother Chris Hemsworth, 28, who reprises his superhero role of Thor in the anticipated film. Miley Cyrus, 19, was noticeably absent from the festivities, but that didn’t seem to get Liam down! A party guest tells Celebuzz Liam looked “happy and relaxed” and that the brothers were in great spirits, sitting in a booth with a few friends.

Chris also had support from someone from Snow White and the Huntsman…

Director Rupert Sanders! 

Chris H. was also spotted hanging with his costar Chris Evans, who had a great support system himself.

Chris E. had his mom, brother, and sister with him, as well as some of his best friends from home who flew into town. Seriously- this is one of the most down to earth guys in Hollywood!

He introduced his family to the Hemsworth’s, before posing for pictures with his gorgeous costar Scarlett Johansson. Jon Favreau also took time to talk with Evans for a while.

Robert Downey Jr. told Celebuzz earlier that he had a great time making this movie, and enjoyed filming with Chris E. in particular, adding what a “great actor” he thinks Chris is.

Said RDJ: “People may not realize that [Chris Evans] had one of the hardest roles in [The Avengers]. He had to unite us all, and he did. It was a real pleasure working with him,” Downey said, before joking: “Ugly guy too, right?”

The Avengers hits theaters on May 4, and trust us, you want to go see it!

He even let us keep our tattoos!” the actress told InStyle.com. “It was fun working with Chris, and refreshing to just goof around in front of the camera as two actors.”

Both Evan Rachel and Chris had big years in 2011. EVR starred as the sexy intern in Ides of March, while Chris was the heroic Captain America. This year is also on the up-and-up for the actors with Chris’ film The Avengers hitting theaters, and rumors swirling that Evan Rachel is engaged to Jamie Bell.
