There’s no doubt bromances have become a beloved mainstay on the big screen, from crime-fighting buddy-cops, to old-school rat-pack pairs, to superhero sidekicks.

But within the world of science fiction, one bromantic story stands out from all the rest: Star Trek‘s Captain James T. Kirk and Spock. In J.J. Abrams reboot of the celebrated cult franchise, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto resurrect that iconic intergalactic relationship, beaming it to brand new heights in the sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, in theaters now.

“I think at the beginning of this movie the characters are really positioned at diametrically opposite ends of the spectrum of perspective,” Quinto told Celebuzz‘s Cory Lopez. “And it’s through the adversity that they face and the villain that they have to defeat that they come to realize how reliant they are upon one another in order to be their full and truest selves.”

Though that dynamic is distinctive, Pine sees some similarities between Spock and Kirk — or Spirk, if you’re feeling fancy — and one of the more renowned bromances in movie history.

“I think what makes the characters interesting is that they are so black and white. Maybe there’s a little Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte in 48 hours, right?” he explained, giving Quinto a giggle. “You’re Nick Nolte,” Pine clarified, and “I’m Eddie Murphy.”

But in Star Trek Into Darkness, their bromance is paralleled by Spock’s romance: Kirk must share Spock’s half-human, half-Vulcan heart with his lady love, communications officers Uhura (Zoe Saldana). So does Spock’s romantic relationship supersede his brotherly bond with Kirk?

“In this particular movie, neither of the relationships is particularly thriving in the beginning,” Quinto admitted. “Luckily by the end, they both get resolved and find their way back to balance.”

But resolving a romance is not so much an issue for Kirk. Apart from the occasional fling with an alien, love has yet to find young U.S.S. Enterprise captain.

“I’m just fighting crime too much,” Pine explained. “Fighting crime, saving the world, keeping the team together. Just no time.”

“Much like his real life,” Quinto chimed in, shooting a sly smile to Pine.

Captain James T. Kirk is no ordinary captain.

In J.J. Abrams‘ reboot of the famed Star Trek franchise, the U.S.S. enterprise leader (played by Chris Pine) is bold, brash and bears a risky penchant for breaking the Star Fleet tried-and-tested rulebook.

Despite his drawbacks, though, the ship’s crew stands by Kirk when push comes to shove in the thrilling Star Trek Into Darkness, which hits theater Thursday. But it’s not his leadership skills that keeps Kirk’s team loyal.

“[It's] his butt. He has a beautiful behind,” Simon Pegg, who stars as the side-splitting engineer Scotty, told Celebuzz‘s Cory Lopez. “If you follow Kirk, you can’t help but be hypnotized by those steel buns of his.”

After working together for 2009′s Star Trek, Pegg signed on for the sequel just for another chance to gaze at Pine’s great derrière. “That’s kept me coming back for more year after year,” he quipped. “He’s someone I can get behind.”

But Pegg and Karl Urban — the man behind the offbeat doctor Leonard H. McCoy a.k.a. Bones — agree that there’s more to Pine than meets the eye. “I love Chris. We both love Chris,” Pegg said. “Chris is funny because he’s a leading man but he’s pretty goofy as well, isn’t it?”

“I think people him as this sort of corn-fed, all-American, super handsome guy,” he continued. “And he is that, but he’s also a bit of a goof. I love that about him.”

And that goofy good humor led to “a lot of laughs” on set, Urban added. “And that goes for everybody,” Pegg said. “When we hang out, it’s a blast. And to be able to do that, and get paid to do it, and be in Star Trek, it doesn’t get any better than that.”

That is the question on everyone’s minds today after Deadline reported the hunky and perpetually bearded actors are up for roles in the upcoming movie-musical adaptation of Into the Woods.

The roles up for grabs: Cinderella’s Prince and Rapunzel’s Prince, respectively, though it is unclear which role would go to which actor. (At the very least, we know they’re good-looking enough to play princes.)

All eyes have been on Rob Marshall’s much-anticipated take on Stephen Sondheim’s beloved Broadway musical. Already, the project has landed Meryl Streep as The Witch, and Johnny Depp as The Wolf. Tony winner James Corden is said to be up for the coveted role of The Baker; Nina Arianda, another Tony winner, might get a part, too.

Whether or not this latest casting item will develop further remains unclear. But if it does, yeah, let’s hope they can sing, because the last time Meryl Streep starred in a movie-musical, not everybody could.

When he’s not saving the world in Star Trek: Into Darkness, big screen heartthrob Chris Pine is putting his feet up pretty nicely in this incredible Mediterranean home located in a gated Los Angeles compound on a stunning 1.5-acres.

The newly-single 32-year-old hunk bought the 2,200 square-foot home in 2010 with all that newfound dough he made after the super success of the first Star Trek from previous owner actor Jason Lee. The price tag: a cool $3.104 million.

The enchanting 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom European-style, custom-built manse is located in the exclusive Los Feliz neighborhood of L.A. and sits on a whopping 61,490 square foot lot that showcases the posh property’s artistic landscaping.

And this isn’t like any other bachelor pad. Built in 1948, this architecturally-unique home features a private spa and secret garden adjacent to the master bedroom, glistening pool, dining area with… get this… walls of glass that open to the lush grounds, party-ready chef’s kitchen with Viking appliances and Sub-Zero fridge, patio with fireplace and BBQ, wine cellar, and even Zinfandel vines to harvest.

New York City rolled out the red carpet for Captain Kirk and company on Thursday, as the stars came out for the premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness.

Chris Pine gave Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jay Gatsby a run for his money with a dapper pinstripe ensemble, while Zachary Quinto went with a black-and-blue look.

“Psyched for my @ToddSnyderNY tuxedo at the STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS premiere tonight. It’s aces,” Quinto wrote on Twitter before the big event.

Earlier in the day, Pine and his other co-star Benedict Cumberbatch, who portrays a villain in the new sequel, were spotted heading into the Ed Sullivan theater for a taping of The Late Show with David Letterman.

On the same day a slew of female staffers on Capitol Hill gawked at (and were photographed doing it) Prince Harry on day one of his U.S. tour, it was business as usual in the world of Hollywood.

The summer blockbuster season is upon us, which means the stars have been busy promoting their films and attending red carpet premieres around the world.

One day after The Great Gatsby crowd took over  New York City, the stars of Star Trek Into Darkness had their turn in getting fancy for the film’s UK premiere.

Chris Pine and his fellow Star Trek gentlemen Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch suited up for the big event, held at the Empire Leicester Square in London.

Zoe Saldana stunned in a black and white gown while Alice Eve looked ultra glamorous in her suede number.

When J.J. Abrams was casting for his 2009 reboot of the Star Trek franchise, Chris Pine was probably the last person who wanted to have anything to do with it.

“I wasn’t a fan of Star Trek,” Pine, 32, tells the latest issue of Esquire UK. “It didn’t excite me.”

“All I wanted at that time was a part that I really connected to and when my agent said, ‘Star Trek,’ I said, ‘No! Have you not been haring anything I’ve said? Star Trek is the furthest thing from what I want to do.’”

When he landed the role and into the giant footsteps left by William Shatner, Pine switched from dislike to nerves.

“Star Trek scared me a lot. It terrified me, really. Because of the scale, the responsibility, the fact that it was this iconic character. It was the bigger challenge. So I had to take it.”

Fast forward to four years later: Pine, Abrams and company are gearing up for the release of Star Trek Into Darkness, a picture that is expected to make big bucks at the box office when it opens in May.

The sequel also has a new villain, played by Benedict Cumberbatch (of Sherlock Holmes fame). And on a recent film tour with his co-star, Pine discovered that he’s become somewhat of an afterthought — overseas, anyway.

“When I went to Japan for Star Trek, the fans were at the airport waiting. But they didn’t scream until Benedict got off the plane. And I was like, “f*** man, what about me?’”

For some 77 seconds, Chris Pine and company pack some serious action, as viewers get a better look at Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the film’s villain.

Pine’s Captain Kirk is as feisty as ever, as he bumps heads with his crew (Spock, Sulu, and the like) to track down the new fugitive.

Star Trek Into Darkness is Abrams’ last project before embarking on Star Wars: Episode VII.

The new teaser, attached to Oz The Great and Powerful, which opened on Friday, comes some three months after Paramount introduced Into Darkness with a scary voiceover (Benedict) that threatens to have his “vengeance.”

Robert Downey, Jr. recently dropped some hints as to what audiences can expect from Iron Man 3. Apparently, the film’s best bit of acting comes not from its star, but rather from former Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau, who plays Tony Stark’s executive bodyguard, Happy Hogan. “Happy has an amazing arc in this movie,” Downey said. “In fact, probably the best two bits of acting in the movie, so far from what I can tell…which sucks because I’m in every frame, are Favreau as Happy Hogan…I can’t give away much, but it’s ridiculous.” Iron Man 3, directed by Shane Black, hits theaters May 3, 2013. In more threequel news, director Todd Phillips teased story details on The Hangover Part III. “[The movie] is Alan’s story,” Phillips said of Zach Galifianakis’ character. ”He’s going through a crisis after the death of his father, [and] the Wolfpack is all he has.” The director also revealed that, while the Wolfpack will indeed return to Las Vegas this trip, it’s “just one of their stops” in the sequel. We’ve known for some time that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt was not returning to helm the sequel (Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves has stepped in). Now it looks like Rise’s leading man, James Franco, may also sit out Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. “I was going to be a small part of the next movie,” Franco said in a recent interview. “There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct. But there was one scene, between Caesar and my character, maybe even just like on a video that was left behind, but then a lot of things happened… Now Rupert’s not a part of it so I don’t know. There are some new faces in the world of Star Trek, and one has arrived to have his “vengeance.”

J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures have just unleashed the new teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2009 mega hit, Star Trek.

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, perhaps best known for his award winning role as Sherlock Holmes across the Atlantic Ocean, possesses all sorts of evil in the new Star Trek film — at least, that’s what the trailer wants viewers to think.

“You think your world is safe,” Cumberbatch’s character says in a voiceover, “It is an illusion, a comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace. For I have returned . . . to have . . . my vengeance.”

While the evil level in Cumberbatch’s character is up for debate — rumor also has it that he is the legendary villain Khan — the film does see the return of many of its stars from three years ago.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban and Zoe Saldanaall reprise their roles as Captain Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Uhura, respectively.

Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Simon Pegg also make a return as their Star Trek characters, as the franchise welcomes newcomers Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

If you’ve seen the trailer for Rise of the Guardians then you’ve seen a Santa that looks  like a Russian wrestler, an Easter Bunny who’s a dead-eye with a boomerang and human-hummingbird hybrid with a jones for baby teeth as they join together to fight an otherworldly force of evil.

No, this isn’t The Avengers for eight year olds. According to executive producer Guillermo Del Toro, Team Guardian got there first.

“When we started the movie, Avengers was not even a blip on the radar,” he told Celebuzz. “These movies take years to do.”

For Del Toro, this is his third time working in animation, the first being Kung Fu Panda 2 followed by Puss in Boots. He’s currently producing a digital remake of the classic Pinocchio and has Kung Fu Panda 3 waiting in the wings.

The director of hits like the Hellboy movies as well as the Oscar-nominated Pan’s Labyrinth, Del Toro took an active creative role working with first-time director Peter Ramsey on Guardians.

In the new movie, Jack Frost, voiced by Chris Pine, teams up with Santa (Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and a non-verbal Sand Man. Their foe is Pitch (Jude Law), an evil force on a mission to snuff out children’s sense of wonder. As children stop believing, the life force of the guardians is drained away.

“The way Peter [Ramsey] saw it was like a superhero team coming together,” said Del Toro. “But he didn’t want to take the characters and give them super powers or anything like that. He wanted opposite personalities, grander than life, personalities clashing and coming together as the story goes along.”

Unlike most executive producers, Del Toro consulted on story, themes, characters and the look of the movie.

“The character that we took the most time designing was Bunny,” he said about the muscle-clad rabbit with a thick Australian accent. “He went through three or four incarnations than the one you see. We went with a bunny that has sort of baggy pants and a little vest and he was a little prissy. And there was another one where he was wearing leather and physically was very different, he was much more close to a real bunny.”

What the team finally decided on was to dispense with his clothing altogether and shape its fur coat as clothing, with markings like tattoos.

For a filmmaker known mainly for horror/fantasy, Del Toro seems to have a pretty strong knack for pleasing the kids. While Guardians favors a dark palette and often broaches  darker themes, he noted that most classic fairy tales traditionally do the same, but are often scrubbed clean for modern audiences.

“You can go and insinuate darkness and show darkness but ultimately it needs to stay on the tracks,” he concluded, warning, “any kind of helicopter parenting that tries to prevent moments like that is only creating an illusion for the way the world exists.”

Rise of the Guardians opens in theaters nationwide November 21. Watch the film’s theatrical trailer below.

When Superman Returns was auditioning for the role of Clark Kent, the filmmakers has a tough time locking down a rising young actor as none of them wanted to be tied down to a multi-picture commitment that could last a decade or more — not to mention be typecast as fanboy-bait. No wonder actors were leery of franchise films in general.

However, actors today are so eager to star in franchise movies that several performers are even starring in more than one franchise. Take Chris Pine, for instance: Though he has a solid starring role in the Star Trek movies as the young James Kirk, he also started filming Jack Ryan, a film meant to reboot the Tom Clancy spy franchise with the 32-year-old playing the title CIA agent.

Why do actors suddenly want to be in a franchise, let alone two? For one, the pay is good and sequels mean a guaranteed paycheck for years.

For another, they’re almost surefire hits, which in turn make an actor marketable for other movies. And if an actor is in more than one film, he can avoid being typecast; the impulsive, intuitive James Kirk bears little resemblance to the cool, analytical Jack Ryan.

So who else is juggling multiple franchises?

Pine is just one of many stars handling two or more franchises right now.

There’s also Daniel Craig, who has both the James Bond movies and the Millennium trilogy, which started with 2011′s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Robert Downey Jr. is actually working on three franchises now. Besides starring as Tony Stark in the Iron Man and Avengers films and the titular character in Guy Richie‘s Sherlock Holmes series, he’s also signed a deal last fall to play Perry Mason, in what would presumably be a series of movies about the sleuthing defense attorney.

Unemployable a decade ago because his past drug history had made him uninsurable, Downey seems to be making up for lost time and taking advantage of his current box office popularity while it lasts.

Such multitasking seems to come into vogue about once a decade. Ten years ago, the Lord of the Rings movies featured several actors (Christopher Lee, Ian McKellen, and Hugo Weaving) who were working on other franchise movies at the same time — Lee had the Star Wars prequels, McKellen the X-Men movies, and Weaving the Matrix trilogy.

Before that, the 1980s were a heyday for franchise-jugglers like Harrison Ford (who alternated between Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies) and Sylvester Stallone, who developed the Rocky and Rambo franchises.

Nowadays, actors are worried about being thrown out of work altogether by digitization, as movies like Avatar seem to herald a future when actors are replaceable by pixels. No wonder so many stars are taking the path of Avatar’s Sam Worthington, who’s switching back and forth between his role in James Cameron’s otherworldly franchise and his Perseus in the Titans movies. From ancient Greece to the interstellar future, he’s got his bases covered for the next few years.

On Saturday, the This Means War star hopped on a bike to film a scene for the Untitled Jack Ryan Project in New York City, and let’s just say we’re jealous of the bike!

Pine is the latest Hollywood heartthrob to play the role of Jack Ryan. Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affeck have already taken stabs at the Tom Clancy spy.

Kevin Costner and Keira Knightley also star in the prequel, which is set to be released on Christmas Day next year.

Chris Pine says his role in the new People Like Us is a far cry from the characters he played in the action-packed flicks Star Trek and This Means War.

“I play a really complicated character,” he told Celebuzz at the film’s NYC premiere on June 25 (see video above). “I think having coming from some bigger films, it was interesting for me to get involved in a project that was a lot smaller, a bit more character-driven.”

How intense is Pine’s role in the film?

He plays Sam, a man who’s dealing with both the death of his father and the shocking revelation that he has a half-sister he’s never met — Frankie, played by blonde beauty Elizabeth Banks.

Pine didn’t just talk about his red-hot movie career — he also reminisced about his childhood hangouts in Los Angeles, where he filmed scenes for People Like Us.

“I love Henry’s Tacos. I have been going there since I was a kid,” he said.

And what’s his favorite memory of the eatery? Joked the 31-year-old: “Well, their tacos.”

People Like Us hits theaters nationwide tonight, June 29.

Elizabath Banks and Chris Pine hit the red carpet in New York City Monday night, June 25, for their latest film People Like Us, and the blonde beauty had nothing but admiration for her costar.

Banks couldn’t help but rave over her handsome light-eyed costar, telling Celebuzz, “He is deliciously yummy in all ways. He is a great actor. I love that this role is an opportunity to show that he is more than just a pretty face.”

Banks, who glimmered in a gold Ellie Saab dress and Cartier jewels at the premiere, went on to talk about why she fell in love with her character in the film,

“She is a struggling single mother battling alcohol addiction and dealing with the death of her father,” she says of the role of Frankie.  “She’s got a ton of layers. It’s really rare when a female role is written so wonderfully. I just fell in love with her.”
