Remember Michael Lohan‘s staggering reaction to his daughter Lindsay Lohan announcing that renowned lesbian DJ Samantha Ronson was more than just a very close friend? How about littlest star Verne Troyer‘s super-embarrassing Mini-Me sex tape and Californication actor David Duchovny‘s queasy admission that he had entered rehab for perverts?

All of those were disturbing, too-much-information moments indeed, but they’re not even half the awkwardness on our list of the most outrageous missteps and glorious gaffes of 2008.

Rumors abounded earlier this fall regarding Californication star Duchovny, 48, and his alleged affair with tennis instructor Edit Pakay.

The actor, who famously portrayed “Fox Mulder” on The X-Files, even checked into an Arizona rehabilitation facility for sex addiciton.

But while he and wife of 11 years Leoni, 42, were said to be separated, Star is reporting they were recently spotted bringing their kids, Madelaine, 9, and Kyd, 6, to a Tasti D-Lite store in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

“They were holding hands, and at one point, I saw David rub Téa’s back,” says a Star snitch. “They seemed incredibly loving.”

The tabloid also points out that Duchovny and Leona have slapped down $7.5 million for a  four-floor maisonette with its own entrance in a large building in the East Seventies of New York City. 

They’re apparently also subletting an apartment together in the same building, as they complete another $5 million in renovations on their new purchase.

Sounds like, in this case, absence really has made the heart(s) grow fonder.

All good things must come to an end, and that has certainly been the case for David.

Beginning with the second season of Californication‘s disappointing reviews, followed by his very public admittance to rehab for sex addiction, and then came the straw that broke the camel’s back; his alleged affair with his tennis instructor that gave his marriage that final push toward destruction. 

While Duchovny is denying rumors of the affair, it doesn’t seem to be enough to put his life back together.

Even if his marriage is done for good, hopefully the plot line of his Showtime comedy will pick up a bit so his life won’t be entirely in the toilet.

Duchovny, who is currently separated from his wife Tea Leoni, says the Mail‘s story claiming he told Pakay he would leave his wife for her was untrue.

“The story falsely alleges that Duchovny sought out Ms. Pakay to be his tennis instructor and that the ‘professional relationship’…quickly turned into a love match,” court documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court read.

This has not been an easy few months for Dave. He went into rehab for sex addiction at the tail end of the summer. It was also reported that he and wife Tea have been separated since he allegedly found sexy text messages from “her new favorite person”, actor Billy Bob Thornton, on her cell phone.

Taking up tennis is supposed to be relaxing.

The paper reports that Duchovny, 48, may have become romantically involved with his 28-year-old tennis instructor, Edit Pakay.

The Hungarian-born tennis pro, who charges $200 an hour for private lessons, admits to a “very, very close friendship” with Duchovny, whom she characterizes as “a wonderful man” who “is in great shape.” Edit stops short of acknowledging any sexual interaction with the actor.

“I don’t want to say anything that might hurt David,” Pakay says. “I am not going to deny it.”

A blabbermouth buddy of Pakay’s is more forthright.

“This is a love affair,” the pal states. “He told her he was going to leave his wife for her….[t]he physical side of it has been going on for at least six months, probably longer.”

Duchovny and Pakay met last year at the Malibu Racket Club, a members-only establishment situated in Malibu, California.

A spokesman for the actor denies the claims, asserting, “There is no romantic relationship [between Duchovny and Pakay] and never has been.”

So perhaps this whole thing is just a tempest in a teapot. Or, if you prefer, in a teacup.

Extra reports that Thornton—who supposedly hooked up with Leoni while they were shooting the film Manure together—has released a statement that the two are just friends.

Well, maybe really, really good friends; Leoni recently revealed that Billy Bob is her “new favorite person in the world.”

Earlier reports noted that Duchovny became upset when he discovered text messages between Thornton and Leoni.

Backing up Thornton’s assertion is the fact that Leoni appears to be several miles outside of Billy Bob’s romantic league.

Besides, when celebrities release statements denying an affair, there’s every reason to take them at face value. Right?

The Times reports that Madonna has sought out the services of British divorce attorney Fiona Shackleton in her split from director Guy Ritchie. Shackleton represented Prince Charles in his divorce from Princess Diana, and Paul McCartney in his split from Heather Mills. Madonna and estranged husband Guy Ritchie reportedly have a combined net worth of over $500 million and there is speculation that Ritchie could receive up to $260 million in the eventual divorce settlement.

TMZ reports that actor Ryan O’Neal and son Redmond have both been charged with felony possession of methamphetamines. Ryan, 67, and Redmond, 23, were arrested last month after a random probation sweep resulted in drugs being found in the elder O’Neal’s bedroom and in Redmond’s possession.

The Californication actor is said to have responded well to his treatment, and here’s why: Duchovny has taken up the habit of running until he’s too exhausted to even think about reaching for his zipper.

Either that, or he’s trying to race through the 12 steps of recovery as quickly as possible so he can declare himself healed and get back to his old ways.

Just remember, David: You can’t run from your problems. Everyone knows that. Well, almost everyone.

Us reports that Dancing with the Stars contestant Misty May-Treanor is definitely out of the competition due to a torn Achilles tendon. Host Brooke Burns told a Los Angeles radio station on Monday that”She’s out of the competition. Just like that, it’s over for her.”

TMZ reports that Vincent Dean Malicek has been arrested on armed robbery charges for holding up a Ralphs supermarket in Santa Ana last month. Malicek’s other claim to fame? He was pop singer Fergie‘s prom date in 1993.

Us reports that former American Idol contestant Paris Bennett gave birth to a girl yesterday in Minneapolis named Egypt. Bennett, who appeared on Idol season five, will reportedly release her first Christmas cd on Oct. 14.

E! reports that FX has picked up their new motorcycle drama, Sons of Anarchy, for a second season. The show, from one of the creators of The Shield, details the exploits of an outlaw motorcycle gang in Northern California.

The show centers around a successful, but troubled, writer who is trying to win back his true love (and mother of his child) while sleeping with a procession of promiscuous L.A. chicks along the way.

In a twisted series of events, the X-Files vet checked himself into rehab for his own sexual addictions just last month.

It’s all fine and dandy that he finally decided to take care of personal demons, but, hey, shouldn’t he have waited till, say, this week to make his startling announcement? 

A little shameless self-promotion never hurt anyone. Just sayin!

“Téa has been getting professional help to try to get past this crisis,” a friend tells the magazine. Another source characterizes her as “so sad and depressed. She’s been in such a slump.”

Duchovny is currently undergoing treatment for his sex addiction at Arizona facility the Meadows. He is said to be making progress.

Of course, one never knows whether the lessons learned in rehab will stick in the outside world.

“The most I can say is that I hope he’s doing really well—and I heard he is doing really well,” Handler told the magazine.

Weekends inherently hold a lot of temptations, so it’s a good thing David is locked up in Malibu…with a bunch of perverts.

Then again, Duchovny has claimed to be more tempted by computer screens than people in the flesh, so he should do just fine around all those nympho babes. Or maybe not.

Dave’s wife Téa Leoni better keep her eye on what’s going on in Malibu.

On the other hand, David Duchovny has had a rough time, with his not-so anticipated X-Files movie flopping badly last month. This week, it was all topped off with a shocking revelation worthy of Californication:

• He announced to the world that he is checking into rehab for sex addiction! Wait a tick!
• Many speculated on who the lucky ladies (or men) were! 
• Then it was announced that he wasn’t sleeping around, but rather spent lots and lots of time in internet pornography chat rooms. 
• Now there are indications that David did in fact cheat on his wife of 12 years, Tea Leoni, who finally gave him an ultimatum to get some help. 

Contradicting previous reports of a mild case of sexual fixation, a Daily Mail source says Duchovny’s addiction went much further than just Internet porn—he actually cheated on wife Tea Leoni for years, and she threatened to divorce him.

“He said Tea gave him an ultimatum: Get treatment or our marriage is over,” says the snitch.

Don’t feel too bad for David and his wife, folks. According to wise old sage Kate Hudson,  divorce could be the best thing that ever happens to their relationship.

Why, just a little over a week ago, you had a smile on your face like you were sitting on top of the world with a beer in one hand and an Eskimo Pie in the other.

Wednesday, on the UK red carpet for The X-Files: I Want to Believe, you looked like you couldn’t be bothered to shave for the premiere of your own flick.

Why the sudden mood swing?

This isn’t a very difficult case to crack. The truth is out there—in the form of box-office receipts.

In its opening night last Friday, the new X-Files flick raked in a dismal $4 million.

And with the current state of the U.S. dollar, that’s barely enough to keep Duchovny in teacups, let alone maintain the lifestyle he’s become accustomed to.

Hopefully, Dave’s wife Tea Leoni will help lift his spirits.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson played special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully on the cult series, The X-Files, from 1993 to 2002. They also scored big with their 1998 hit movie with the same title—$189 million to be exact. 

What have they been up to for the past six years? Luckily, they escaped the ugly fate of many popular characters on hit shows and have reinvented their careers:

Californiacation. It’s this little series on Showtime. David plays Hank Moody and has to sleep with every hot chick in L.A. and Malibu. It’s a pretty sweet deal.

Gillian has appeared in stage productions and many films, including The Last King of Scotland. Oh, and she also got married, divorced, had a kid, and is now pregnant again. 

They’ve both been busy, but nothing can quite satisfy our thirst like another exciting conspiracy that is The X-Files.

Trust no one…but them.

Seeing Fox Mulder and Dana Scully together again not only warmed X-Philes hearts, it also caused one creature of unknown origin to beam down from Planet XXX.

Meanwhile, Gillian Anderson offered up her pregnancy workout regimen to Us: “The only thing I do when I’m pregnant is eat and sit on my butt! What’s the point in working out until I have the baby?”
