The View‘s resident right-winger has landed a side job, signing on to contribute “family issues stories” to Good Morning America. Hasselbeck’s new job will begin on Monday, October 11. The topic at hand? Children and tattoos—specifically, “the dangers and the alternatives, as well as how parents should handle kids who come to them begging for one. Hasselbeck will also look at the growing trend of parents and kids getting tattoos together,” according to a press release issued by ABC.

Parents and kids getting tattoos together? You’re just trying to woo Justin Bieber, aren’t you Lizzie? Not to say that we blame you.

Hasselbeck gushed of her new duties,

“I am thrilled to join the Good Morning America team, and I am thankful for this opportunity to raise awareness and explore the most important issues facing parents and children.”

The cantankerous View cohost ignited a media firestorm last week when she trashed ESPN reporter and Dancing With the Stars contestant Erin Andrews‘ choice of dress for the dance competition, suggesting that Andrews’ recently convicted stalker, who posted a nude photo of her on the Internet after peeping through her hotel-door peephole, could have just watched the show and saved himself some prison time.

Caught in the backlash of public opinion, Hasselbeck went on her show the next day and claimed that she’d made good with Andrews, calling her to apologize. According to Hasselbeck, she was prompted to make the call by her five-year-old daughter, Grace Elisabeth:

“So, thankfully, I listened to her — she’s a wise little girl — and I did. So, I’m really sorry, and I wanted to offer that publicly too, even though I did follow that advice.”

Well, here’s a big, fat surprise: Andrews now says that such a phone call never happened: 

“I didn’t speak with her, no. I never talked to her.”

Andrews says that, despite the initial insult and follow-up falsehood, she’s “dealt with” Hasselbeck’s remarks:

“I’m moving on. I’m tired of talking about it. It’s a new week.”

Well, at least there’s one person of class in this whole sordid tale. But the rest of the nation might not be as quick to forgive Hasselbeck as Andrews is. Insulting a stalking victim, then lying about issuing an apology, and hiding behind your five-year-old in the process? There’s a word for people like that, and unfortunately we’re not at liberty to use that word in a family-oriented blog such as this.

Famously opinionated View co-host Hasselbeck raised eyebrows on Tuesday’s show when she made light of Andrews’ Dancing With the Stars wardrobe—and her encounter with a stalker last year. Hassebleck opined that Andrews’ stalker—who was convicted of spying on her through a hotel peephole—could have seen just as much flesh and avoided jail time if he had watch Andrews on Dancing With the Stars.

That didn’t sit too well with Andrews, who said that Hasselbeck’s comments amounted to “a slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators.” It also didn’t sit well with Hasselbeck’s five-year-old daughter Grace Elisabeth, who counseled her tart-tongued mom to call Andrews and apologize:

“So, thankfully, I listened to her — she’s a wise little girl — and I did. So, I’m really sorry, and I wanted to offer that publicly too, even though I did follow that advice.”

Hasselbeck returned to The View this morning, just two months after giving birth to her third child, and made quite the stir on her first day back!

As she shared a picture of her newborn son, she told the audience how tame it was compared to another certain photo she recently shared with her family.

She explained,

“You know when your baby smiles for the first time – I reach for the iPhone and take the photo. No wonder why he is smiling – because my nipple is in the photo!”

“It’s worse than drunk dialing,” she said of the accidental full-frontal flash that her entire family saw. “It’s embarrassing.”

The Boston Herald reports that Falmouth, Massachusetts, resident Susan Hassett has filed a federal lawsuit against the sometimes combative View co-host‘s dietary  book, The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide, which was published in May.

Hassett claims that she had sent Hasselbeck a copy of her own tome, Living With Celiac Disease, in April 2008, adding that she also included a homemade cooking video, a personal note, a newspaper and a business card.

And that’s just a little too much of a coincidence for Hassett to swallow.

Hasselbeck “wrote” The G-Free Diet after discovering that she suffers from autoimmune disorder celiac disease, which is believed to be aggravated by gluten proteins found in wheat, barley and rye. Among other things, the illness’ symptoms include chronic diarrhea and fatigue.

Publicists for both ABC, which airs The View, and Hachette Book Group, which published Hasselbeck’s book, have so far declined to comment.

The New York Post quotes the Dreaded One as saying that staunch Republican Hasselbeck receives more death threats than anyone else within the talk-show coven.

Which is saying something, given the level of contentiousness on The View lately.

But the Sister Act comedienne shouldn’t be considered a suspect in the Hasselbeck threats.

“Truth is, we could not have a dialogue without Elizabeth,” Goldberg asserts. “It’s not that we have to agree, the important thing is that we have the conversation.”

A “conversation”? Is that what they’re calling The View‘s daily screech-fest?

Thanks for the clarification, Whoopi; maybe the WWE should change the name of its weekly televised matches to Friday Night Tea Party.

At this point, you’d think Elisabeth Hasselbeck—the lone John McCain/Sarah Palin supporter on The View—would be used to her Barack Obama-bashing getting shot down by fellow talking heads Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Joy Behar and babble-matron Barbara Walters.

Alas, this morning Hasselbeck continued to push Obama’s supposed ties to onetime radical figure William Ayers, to which Shepard countered that Ayers was never convicted of a crime.

The fur was flying, and the dialogue was pretty much indecipherable from all the yelling.

This kind of drama hasn’t been witnessed with the View dames since Rosie O’Donnell tusselled with the blonde Republican then rolled from the show.

Hasselbeck’s agent released a statement yesterday regarding the matter, reports Us.

“While Elisabeth [Hasselbeck] has a great relationship with Fox News, there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that she is leaving The View. Elisabeth is passionate in her beliefs and enjoys being a part of this dynamic group of women and engaging in daily conversations.”

Elisabeth had better develop a thicker skin, though. Her talking cohorts aren’t the only ones ganging up on the GOP ticket these days.

Fox News reports that View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is “really upset” with fellow gabbers Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar about the upcoming Presidential election.

Earlier reports have indicated that Hasselbeck may actually be considering leaving the show.

“It’s not as bad as during the Rosie [O'Donnell] era,” says a source. Even so, View head honcho has called a “cooling off” meeting among the coven so that Hasselbeck, the show’s token conservative, can hash out her differences with Goldberg and Behar.

Cooling off meeting? There’s only one real way to solve this rift: a televised knife fight, played out to the tune of the Michael Jackson classic “Beat It.”

If Hasselbeck fails to make the cut, there’s plenty more where she came from.

The divorce of New York Yankees star, and rumored paramour of Madonna, Alex Rodriguez from his wife Cynthia Rodriguez has been finalized. The couple released a statement to People: “Cynthia and Alex Rodriguez have amicably resolved their dissolution of marriage proceedings. They deliberately engaged in a private negotiation. During the negotiations and resolution all decisions were made with the best interests of their children as the paramount concern.”

Host Pat O’Brien will be leaving The Insider, according to a statement issued by CBS:  “Pat O’Brien has been a part of The Insider family from the very beginning. Everyone at CBS Television Distribution and The Insider greatly appreciate and respect all his contributions to our show. We wish Pat much success in his future endeavors.”

O’Brien has had past issues with substance abuse, sexual dependence and rehab. He was recently reported as sending Insider staffers an e-mail critical of co-host Lara Spencer.

Pushed on Barbara Walters‘ comments in her new memoir, Audition, that calls her “a great talent with emotional issues,” O’Donnell kept it atypically under wraps. “Some people confuse passion for rage. I have a lot of passion about things I believe in.”

Citing the Trump lashing and the Elisabeth Hasselbeck blowup that precipitated her departure, O’Donnell feels she “forced Barbara to be more emotional than she’s comfortable with.”

Nice way of saying she goosed the golden egg but good.
