Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman’s Identity Thief returned to first place at the box office during Oscars weekend, grossing an estimated $14.1 million. The comedy’s grand total since opening two weeks ago now stands at $93.7 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Newcomer Snitch, starring Dwayne Johnson, and the animated flick Escape From Planet Earth earned $13 million and $11 million, respectively.

Silver Linings Playbook is the only Oscar-nominated film that finished the weekend in the top 10, with $6.1 million in ticket sales.

With its weekend earnings, the David O. Russell picture has officially surpassed the $100 million mark since its wide release in November.

Keri Russell’s new horror film Dark Skies opened with a weak $8.9 million. The film couldn’t catch up to Safe Haven and last week’s box office giant A Good Day to Die Hard to finish in the top five.

Last weekend, the critically-trounced Identity Thief left its mark on the box office, but this week, three solid contenders hope to dethrone it from the top spot.

Given the Valentine’s Day holiday, it comes as little surprise that Hollywood released not one but two films featuring appropriately sweeping love stories, while simultaneously providing effective counterprogramming in the form of a bombastic action sequel.

Precisely what will take the biggest share of the weekend box office revenue remains to be seen, but scroll through trailers for all of the highest-profile films being released this week as you decide which one will get your hard-earned money.

In Escape From Planet Earth, Rob Corddry (Warm Bodies) plays Gary Supernova, an alien scientist who clashes with Lena Thackleman (Jessica Alba) when his brother Scorch (Brendan Fraser) is apprehended by humans while on a voyage to Earth.

Unexpectedly, Alba and Corddry were paired with one another when doing press for the film, placing two fierce enemies in close proximity with one another. When asked what it took to get them in the same room, the actors explained they were both combative and conciliatory before reconciling their differences.

“We boxed,” Alba tells Celebuzz. “And then we made out.”

Corddry, laughing, adds, “So both things. Two extremes.”

All kidding aside, the actors say that they struggled a little bit when time came to record dialogue for their characters, precisely because they didn’t have the chance to interact with one another.

“I just wanted to have someone to talk to, like play off of,” Alba reveals.

Corddry explains that the filmmakers do give the actors images of their characters, but he’s not confident that helped him fully understand the role. “They do give you a sketch,” he says. “And I sat it there. And I don’t know if it helped me at all.”

But Alba, who never played a villain before taking her role in the film, praised the experience. “It was so fun,” she says. “I thought it was quite liberating to be crazy.”

Although she’s a Golden Globe- and SAG-nominated actress for her role on the popular sitcom Modern Family, Sofia Vergara is probably best known for her voluptuous figure – a fact that the actress knows all too well. At the recent Los Angeles press day for the new animated film Escape From Planet Earth, she told Celebuzz she’s always eager to poke fun at her curvy physique, precisely because she knows how much it has helped her career.

“It’s my reality,” Vergara says. “It has opened so many doors for me, I would be ungrateful to deny that being voluptuous and sexy hasn’t helped me.”

That said, Vergara acknowledges that being a buxom Latina has its drawbacks as well, including having limited options when the time comes to pick out a dress for the Oscars, which she hopes to attend this year.

“I cannot just wear something that is in fashion or just something because it’s beautiful or sexy,” she admits. “I have to wear stuff that looks good for my body, because [if I don’t], then it could be like a horror movie.”

Whether her appearance turns out like “a horror movie” or the height of style remains uncertain, since she’s unsure if she’ll be able to attend at all. “I might have to work in New York, so I might not,” she reveals. “But I would love to go.”

After her previous trip to the Oscars, however, she’s keen to come back. “I had a great time last year at the Vanity Fair party – I sat at a table with Tom Ford, and it was a lot of fun.”
