The American Idol winner, who attempted suicide in August on the heel of an affair scandal, debuts season two of her reality series, Fantasia for Real, on Sunday, and judging from a promo released on Thursday, she’s not shying away from airing her personal laundry.

In the trailer, Barrino is seen debating the scandal (the singer allegedly carried on a year-long affair with a still-married Antwaun Cook, according to allegation from Cook’s ex-wife, though Barrino denies it) with family members. The video quickly cuts to the 911 call following Barrino’s intentional overdose on aspiring and an unknown sleep aid, and footage of Barrino recuperating in the hospital.

Fantasia is also heard reflecting,

“I have not fulfilled my destiny. It’s not time for me to go anywhere. And I can still fight, still keep going. I’m better now.”

The American Idol opens up about her suicide attempt for her Behind the Music special, airing on VH1 on Tuesday. A portion of the interview was leaked to People:

I didn’t have any fight in me. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out. At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with – all of it, all of that [expletive].

I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can’t accidentally take a whole bottle of pills.

Fantasia’s manager, Brian Dickens, was one of the people who found the star on the floor of her room. He tells Behind the Music that her “emotions were extremely low” and she had “been crying all day” before overdosing.

The 26-year-old star overdosed less than a day after news broke of her alleged affair with a married man. Fantasia claims that when the two of them started dating, she was told that he was separated from his wife. Now, the wife is threatening to sue Fantasia for sleeping with her husband. (In some states, like North Carolina where Fantasia and Paula live, a spouse can sue someone for sleeping with their husband or wife.)

Luckily, Fantasia now says that she isn’t feeling as blue as she did when she overdosed. The singer says that a nurse “saved [her] life” and told her that she had to live because she hadn’t fulfilled her destiny in life yet.

Fantasia’s new album, Back to Me will be released on Tuesday.

Even as she is also embroiled in a sex tape scandal – and being sued by a North Carolina woman who accuses her of destroying her marriage – Fantasia, 26, will perform on Good Morning America on August 24 and honor other scheduled appearances, she said in a statement released by her label, J Records (via Us Weekly:)

I can’t thank my fans enough for their prayers and support during such a challenging time…It has given me the motivation to get back to work …I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this album and I pray that everyone enjoys it as much as I do.”

In the midst of a rough stretch, Fanatasia managed to debut the video for her new single, (the aptly-titled) “Bittersweet.” Check it out below.

According to Barrino’s attorney Gena Morris, North Carolina resident Paula Cook has been hinting that she’s preparing to sue Barrino for allegedly carrying on a romantic relationship with her husband, Antwaun Cook, months before the couple filed for divorce. (North Carolina is one of only six states where an alleged “home wrecker” can be sued for damages.) According to Morris, 

“Cook has threatened via her lawyers to me to sue Fantasia.”

Morris adds that the relevant laws are “a comical irony, because they arrive out of laws when women were property of men.” Whether it’s a comical irony with legal relevance in this case remains to be seen. While Barrino’s manager claims Antwaun Cook told the singer that he and his wife split up in the summer of 2009, Robin Cook maintains that the separation didn’t take place until June 16, 21010.

Barrino and Cook might also have filmed a sex tape together, according to papers filed by Robin Cook in Charlotte, North Carolina, which state,

“Husband and Ms. Barrino have at times recorded their illicit sexual activity.”

Morris declined to comment on the sex-tape allegations because it would be “imprudent” in light of any potential deposition that Barrino might give, should the lawsuit go forward.

Barrino was rushed to a hospital in North Carolina on Monday, after reportedly overdosing on aspirin and sleeping pills, and was released later in the week.

Her injuries are not life threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time…Fantasia is stable now.

Dickens said he’s confident the songbird will bounce back from the overdose.

Fantasia is a fighter and a survivor. This is not the hardest thing Fantasia has endured. Fantasia will be stronger, smarter, and better for it. Her work has always inspired her and served as a source of strength.

Fantasia’s health scare came the same week she was accused of breaking up the marriage of a North Carolina couple, with the wife, Paula Cook, alleging in court papers that a sex tape proves Fantasia began an affair with her husband, Antwuan Cook, in August 2009. Fantasia denied she was the cause of the split.

Barrino, who took away top honors on Idol‘s second season, has been named in court papers filed by Paula Cook, who claims that the singer began an affair with her husband, Antwuan Cook, in August 2009. As evidence of the alleged affair, the documents filed in Charlotte, North Carolina, by Cook note that,

“Husband and Ms. Barrino have at times recorded their illicit sexual activity.”

The court documents also indicate that Barrino, 26, told Cook during a telephone conversation,

“He don’t want you. Maybe the next time that you get a husband you’ll know how to keep him. That’s why he is here with me.”

Ouch.

Though Cook is not currently suing Barrino over the alleged affair, the filing of court papers is a potential first step in a lawsuit that could cost the singer big-time. North Carolina is one of seven states where a potential cheater can be sued for damages.

A county record “notice of sale” posted at the site Boogaloo gives rise to speculation that the home has been lost.

The notice states that the property will go to the “highest bidder for cash/subject to any mortgages, liens or taxes that may be owed” at noon on January 12, 2009.

Us notes that Barrino, 24, purchased the six-bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom pond-front mansion on Bevington Place in 2007 for $1.3 million. She allegedly missed more than one mortgage payment on the home.

Fantasia has another home in Charlotte, purchased in 2004, that is not in any financial trouble.

The pop singer initially launched a successful career in 2004 after winning season three of American Idol.  She beat out future Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson and runner-up Diana DeGarmo.

Fantasia was 19 at the time, making her the youngest person to win the series until 2007, when 17-year-old Jordin Sparks took the title in season six.

Last month Barrino sang at a private funeral service held for Jennifer Hudson’s slain family members.

Fantasia is a single mother with a seven-year-old daughter named Zion Quari Barrino.

And some inevitably sink to the bottom.

Witness, Fantasia Barrino and Blake Lewis, who had legions of devotees and have now both been dropped by their reps.

Beat-boxer Blake, a season-six runner-up, just learned Arista won’t stick with him, and he ably spun the dumping on his blog: “Oh well. I guess the right time was now. No biggy. I’m still with 19 Recordings.”

Way to keep the faith, man!

The 19 nest isn’t all that cushy. The management behemoth just axed Fantasia. Sure, her first two CDs went gold, and she starred in The Color Purple on Broadway. But she’s been missing performances and become more of a curiosity than a star.
