The whole music universe descended on Los Angeles Sunday evening to celebrate what the Grammy Awards continuously called itself after every commercial break: The biggest night in music.

Over the evening, the producers put together all the natural elements we expect from the Grammys: cross-generational duets, a few nods to the industry’s icons – both living and dead, and several big performances.

And, of course, Celebuzz was watching for all the big moments – good and bad.

What got our attention? Well, there were some that had us cheering (Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake), others had us rolling our eyes (sorry, Taylor Swift), while a few moments had us scratching our heads in confusion (Frank Ocean, we’re looking at you).

From Timberlake’s triumphant return to Justin Bieber’s many attempts to steer the attention away from the show that snubbed him and the other antics that caught our attention, Celebuzz is pointing out the best and worst of Sunday’s awards ceremony.

Frank Ocean beat Chris Brown — but not in a brawl.

In the wake of the case closing on their January parking-lot clash, Ocean triumphed over Brown as his debut album, channel ORANGE, was crowned Best Urban Contemporary Album over Brown’s Fortune.

Though Brown clapped for his foe, he remained seated as the audience flew to their feet to give Ocean a standing ovation. After striding straight past Brown, Ocean took to the mic to thank the National Academy of Recording Arts for his golden gramophone.

“I hear…the way you disarm an audience is by imagining them naked. But I don’t want to do that,” he began his short-but-sweet acceptance speech. “I want to look at you all as kids in tuxedos and being fancy and stuff like that.”

“I want to say thank you to my mother for being the best,” he continued, also tipping his hat to his managers, Odd Future records, and Island Def Jam.

On the heels of his first-ever win, Ocean snagged another honor alongside Jay-Z, Kanye West and The-Dream, as their “No Church in the Wild” won for Best Rap/Song Collaboration.

“I didn’t think I would be the one speaking first on this one. But thank you,” he said. “I forgot my little brother, he’s here. Ryan, this one is for you, probably the coolest one.”

“Thanks this [Jay-Z] for being on the record with me,” he continued, after giving Hova a handshake.

Ocean’s Grammy success comes just weeks after he came to blows with Brown in a Jan. 27 scuffle in the parking lot of a Los Angeles-area recording studio. Though the “Thinkin’ Bout You” crooner was “desirous of prosecution” against Brown — which could have posed a problem for Brown’s five-year probation stemming from his 2009 assault of recently-reconciled girlfriend Rihanna — Ocean decided that he would not press charges after all.

“As a child I thought if someone jumped me it would result in me murdering or mutilating a man. But as a man I am not a killer,” he wrote on his Tumblr. “No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. Peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace.”

Chris Brown is off Ocean’s hook.

Authorities will soon close the investigation into the late-night brawl between Brown and hip hop artist Frank Ocean, without any charges being sought by either side, according to the Associated Press. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is unlikely to file a misdemeanor battery charge against Brown, according to spokesman Steve Whitmore. But investigators will touch base with Ocean before officially closing the books on the case.

Just days after their Jan. 27 scuffle in the Los Angeles-area, the “Thinkin’ Bout You” crooner was “desirous of prosecution” against Brown. Charges could have posed a problem for Brown, who could have had his five-year probation — stemming from his 2009 assault of on-and-off girlfriend Rihanna — revoke should he have landed back in court.

But letting the dust settle, Ocean decided that he won’t be looking for justice after all. “As a child I thought if someone jumped me it would result in me murdering or mutilating a man. But as a man I am not a killer,” he wrote on his TumblrSaturday night.

“I’m an artist and a modern person. I’ll choose sanity. No criminal charges,” he continued. “No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. Peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace.”

On the night of the scuffle, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of six men fighting in the parking lot at the Westlake Recording Studio in West Hollywood, Calif. According to a witness who spoke with authorities, the brief bout broke out when Brown, 23, punched Ocean, 25.

While neither party issued an official statement about the scuffle, both seemed to address the altercation on social media. Following the fray, Ocean took to Twitter: “got jumped by chris and a couple guys. lol,” the Odd Future artist wrote, adding he wishes Everett, his Bernese mountain dog, had been by his side. “cut my finger now I can’t play w two hands at the grammys.”

Then Brown — who wore a cast on his right arm in wake of the fray — posted an Instagram photo that’s worth a thousand words: Jesus crucified on the cross along with the telling caption, “Painting the way I feel today.”

Frank Ocean has chosen “peace” over payback.

“I’m an artist and a modern person. I’ll choose sanity. No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. Peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace.”

Following the Jan. 27 incident, which involved six people, L.A. County Sherriff spokesman Steve Whitmore confirmed that Ocean, 25, “is desirous of prosecution in this incident.”

Brown, 24, still has one year left in his five-year probation from his 2009 assault on Rihanna.

But as HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell said earlier this week, the singer will probably avoid jail time.

“We all know that when big stars violate their probation, if they have high-powered attorneys, they seem to get away without spending any significant time behind bars, if they even visit a jail . . . we do have a two-tiered criminal justice system in this country, one for all of us and one for the rich and famous.”

Ocean is scheduled to perform at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 10.

We all know Chris Brown has had a few run-ins with the law, his most memorable one undoubtedly being when he beat up then (and now) girlfriend, Rihanna, back in 2009.

Brown was sentenced to five years probation for that infamous night. With just two years of that sentence left, Brown is back in hot water following a brawl with Grammy nominee, Frank Ocean.

The entire situation arose from a call to police on Jan. 27 in West Hollywood where a fight was said to have occurred between six men, two of them being Brown and Ocean. The situation is still being investigated, however both artists have reportedly sustained injuries.

Brown is due back in court for a probation hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

New photographs of Chris Brown with a cast on his right hand and wrist suggest his alleged brawl with Frank Ocean was pretty violent.

TMZ obtained exclusive photos of the “Forever” singer leaving his house on Tuesday with a cast wrapped around his knuckles, about two days after the scuffle purportedly occurred.

That same day, he switched his Instagram from public to private, and posted a corresponding photo that read, “But… social media takes away the essence of why we are even special or icons. So with that, I’m detaching myself from that world.”

Authorities were called to the scene outside Westlake Recording Studio in West Hollywood, Calif., Sunday night after there were reports of a brawl between six men, two of whom were reportedly Brown and Ocean.

According to eye witnesses, the fight was over a parking space and Brown threw the first fight.

“At this point an arrest is not likely, and he will not be charged for leaving the scene,” Steve Whitmore, the senior media advisor for the Los Angeles County Sheriff, told Celebuzz. “A minor scuffle happened. Battery is unwanted touch and a misdemeanor. We are currently investigating what happened.”

“Got jumped by chris and a couple guys. lol,” Ocean tweeted following the incident. “Cut my finger now I can’t play w two hands at the grammys.”

As of Tuesday, Ocean is said to be “desirous of prosecution in this incident,” according to Whitmore. If files are charged, Brown’s five-year probation, which he is currently serving after brutally attacking ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, could run the risk of being revoked.

This isn’t the first altercation Brown has gotten into. Last year, he got into a bloody bar fight with member of Drake’s entourage at a nightclub in New York City.

Frank Ocean is calling for justice.

In the wake of their late-night Sunday scuffle in the Los Angeles-area, the Grammy-nominated singer wants to press charges against Chris Brown, authorities told Reuters.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said Ocean “is desirous of prosecution in this incident,” which could prose a problem for Brown’s five-year probation stemming from his 2009 assault of on-and-off girlfriend Rihanna. With still one year left to serve, the Grammy-winning singer could risk having his probation revoked should charges be filed.

But Breezy isn’t going down without a fight. The R&B singer wants to tell his side of the scuffle in an effort to clear his name in the controversy, according to TMZ. In fact, Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, has already contacted authorities to assist with the investigation, both offering Brown’s blow-by-blow account of the altercation and a surveillance video that his team claims would exonerate Brown. While the clip captures the tail end of the tussle, it shows neither Brown nor Ocean throwing a punch; instead, just their crews get physical.

The Grammy-winning singer is being investigated following an alleged brawl with fellow R&B singer Frank Ocean outside of a Los Angeles-area recording studio Sunday night, according to the Associated Press.

After responding to a report of six men fighting, authorities found an almost-empty scene at the Westlake Recording Studio in West Hollywood, Calif. Though Brown had left the locale, Ocean stayed to speak with the deputies, according to TMZ. Witnesses said that the brief bout was over a parking space and that Brown threw the first punch.

At the upcoming awards show, Ocean will vie for six awards for his Channel Orange.

This isn’t the first time Brown — who is still on probation for the 2009 assault on his then-girlfriend Rihanna — has exchanged blows with Ocean. On Twitter last summer, Brown compared Ocean to “a young James Fauntleroy or Kevin Cossum,” triggering the “Thinkin’ Bout You” singer to bite back by equating Brown to “a young sisqo or ike turner” and explaining he “don’t like underhanded comments.”

The war of words quickly escalated, with Brown spewing expletives as Ocean’s Odd Future collaborator Tyler, The Creator jumping to his friend’s defense.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Jenni “JWoww” Farley are hitting the town on New Year’s Eve and hosting MTV’s Club NYE 2013. They’ll be joined comedian Jeff Dye to watch the ball drop. The special will feature performances by Kesha, Ne-Yo, Sean Kingston, and Rita Ora among others. Snooki is hoping to use “a leopard bedazzled mircophone” for her hosting duties. CBS has announced it’s midseason schedule. New series, Golden Boy will have a special preview on Tuesday, Feb. 26 and Tuesday Mar. 5 at 10 PM before moving to Friday on Mar. 8 at 9 PM. Meanwhile the spring editions of Survivor and The Amazing Race will premiere on Wednesday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Deb. 17 respectively. Both at 8 PM. [CBS]

MTV’s 24-hour college network, mtvU, has named its man and woman of the year for 2012. Singer/songwriter Frank Ocean and Pakistani social activitst Malala Yousafzai were chosen for the honor as they both attempt to challenge the status quo in their respective communities. Judd Apatow has reunited the cast of his show, Freaks and Geeks, for the comedy issue of Vanity Fair. The beloved show, which was cancelled after one season featured Linda Cardellini, Jason Segel, Seth Rogan, Busy Phillips and James Franco. See the photoshoot here. [Hollywood.com]

Celebuzz’s sister site Socialitelife.com editor Kelly Lynch was featured on an episode of E!’s comedy clip show, The Soup. Lynch, who hosts the royal-based web show, The Duchess Diary, was subject to an audio malfunction which changed her voice during a segment for Los Angeles’ FOX News 11.
