Somewhere in the world, Taylor Swift is doing her infamous “surprised face” as she leads the Billboard Music Awards 2013 nominations with a whopping 11 nods.

Tied for the lead with fellow finalists Maroon 5 and Fun., the “22″ crooner is nominated for a plethora of titles, including Best Artist, Best Billboard 200 Album, Top Female Artist, Best Billboard 200 Artist, Best Digital Song Artist, Best Social Artist and Best Country Artist.

Closely following Swift are Rihanna and Carly Rae Jepsen with 10 and 9 nods respectively.

Hosted by former 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan, the ceremony air live on ABC from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand on May 19.

Over the years, the Grammy for Best New Artist has proven to be a fickle award.

In many instances, it has gone to an artist or group who would go on to achieve major worldwide success. (Mariah Carey, anyone?)

But in certain cases, it has also been rewarded to artists whose careers ended right after they finished their acceptance speech, leading many to believe that the award is more of a curse than a blessing. (Seriously, when was the last time Shelby Lynne’s name came up in one of your conversations?)

When putting together a list of the best and worst songs of 2012, it’s impossible not to think of Carly Rae Jepsen’s breakthrough pop hit “Call Me Maybe.”

Unlike 2011, which rightfully belonged to British songstress Adele and her smash album 21, 2012 was the year of singles. Arguably the catchiest song of 2012, “Call Me Maybe” was a perfectly crafted pop song from a little-known Canadian artist. It was universal; everyone — from celebrities to Olympic athletes and university students — was a fan. Even self-absorbed hipsters found themselves singing along — unironically! — to the viral hit.

It’s no wonder Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” leads the pack in Celebuzz’s list of the Best Songs of 2012. And don’t worry, Directioners, we didn’t forget One Direction.

However, not every song was a universal hit this year. In fact, many songs fell flat. From the played-out shenanigans of LMFAO and their party rocking to Gotye’s own viral hit “Somebody That I Used to Know,” these are just a few of our  picks for the year’s worst. And please, don’t even get us started on Flo Rida’s “Whistle.”

Some of these songs are so bad, they have us begging for 2013. After all, it’s the year Beyonce makes her epic comeback — and reclaims her thrown as music’s most talented diva. Wait, is it 2013 yet?

2012 was yet another year ruled by Adele.

No only was she crowned Billboard’s top artist of the year, the British pop powerhouse’s Grammy-winning album, 21, ranked as iTunes’ top-selling record of 2012.

Almost two years after it was released, Adele’s sophomore effort nabbed another accolade last month, as it passed the 10 million in American sales. Ever fittingly, that established 21 as the 21st album to achieve that milestone in the history of Nielsen SoundScan.

Adele — who became the first artist to earn iTunes’ top-selling album, single and artist in a single year in 2011 — beat out country-pop crooner Taylor Swift‘s Red, which earned the second-highest debut sale week for a female artist after selling 1.2 million copies in its first week in U.S.

Mumford & Sons nabbed two spots on the top 10. The British indie folk band hit high sales with their second studio album, Babel, which landed at No. 3 after premiering at No. 1 on U.K. and U.S. charts in September. But their 2009 record, Sigh No More, continued to bring in big bucks in 2012, coming in as iTunes’ sixth-highest selling album for the year.

Less than 24 hours after receiving a whopping six Grammy nominations in Nashville, the guys from fun. are getting all well deserved attention from the music world and beyond.

“We want them all,” lead singer Nate Ruess joked at a press conference backstage, according to Rolling Stone.

The band’s mega hit, “We Are Young,” is up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance while their sophomore album Some Nights is nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. The group is also up for the coveted Best New Artist award, against Frank Ocean, The Lumineers, Alabama Shakes and Hunter Hayes.

In honor of fun.’s Grammy nominations, Celebuzz has collected five things you need to know about the New York based band.

During Wednesday’s nominations concert, hosted by Taylor Swift and LL Cool J, fun., made up of Ruess, Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff, also took to the stage, performing a special acoustic version of “We Are Young” with Janelle Monae.

“Unreal night. Thank you for listening,” the band wrote on Twitter following the performance.

The 55th Grammy Awards be handed out Feb. 10 on CBS.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s not too early to get into the holiday spirit.

This year, the guys from Fun. recorded a cover of the holiday classic “Sleigh Ride” (audio below).

The track is from Holidays Rule, a holiday album that also features tunes from The Shins, Paul McCartney, Rufus Wainwright and the recently disbanded The Civil Wars.

Over the years, “Sleigh Ride,” which first hit the music scene in the late 1940s, has been recorded by just about everyone, from Clay Aiken to Hilary Duff, Amy Grant to The Muppets, and this year, Sufjan Stevens and Fun.

Fun.’s cover is a mix of holiday cheer and horns, all led by front man Nate Ruess and his powerhouse voice.

The group will continue to spread joy this holiday season in early December, when Fun. plays the annual Jingle Ball in Los Angeles and New York.

In anticipation of the holiday songs that will be playing non stop in coffee shops, retail stores and beyond, here are five other new tracks (originals and covers) to listen to:

Although the music lives up to its name sonically, virtually all of Fun’s sophomore album Some Nights seems divined from the school of Outkast’s “Hey Ya,” a tune which many fans still don’t realize offered a sobering and even sad look at love beneath its irresistible shimmer of anthemic melodies and pop hooks. Perhaps unsurprisingly, those nuances are of even less importance when the group performs live, at least evidenced by their recent appearance atop Las Vegas’ Cosmopolitan Hotel.
