The smoke has cleared on the 2013 Grammy Awards, so it’s time to look at how the world reacted to music’s biggest night.

From opinions on Beyonce’s pantsuit, to whether or not Frank Ocean should have brought home more gold, this was one Grammys telecast that spurred plenty of debate.

The Los Angeles Times observed the difference in the crowd reactions for Chris Brown and his recent sparring partner Frank Ocean, noting, “When Brown’s name was announced as a nominee at Staples Center, a tomb-like silence enveloped the auditorium” but when Ocean was announced as the winner in the category “rapturous applause exploded” across the crowd.  (Los Angeles Times)

Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon was amazed at his own Grammy success, tweeting:

I can’t believe I just won a Grammy! Not bad for a guy who was kicked out of One Direction. #grammy

In a smart discussion about why we always argue about who won a Grammy — and should have won — the New York Times points out that older, more established industry people will inevitably be the ones who select younger winners. “Complaining about the Grammys is perennial and inevitable, because the structure of the award giving, which is flawed, is also etched in stone: the representatives of yesteryear weighing in on the acts of today.”  Everyone gets old eventually — even in the music industry.  (New York Times)

Over at the Huffington Post, we were reminded of the evening’s funniest lines – with Jay-Z zinging Terius “The-Dream” Nash as he accepted an award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “No Church in the Wild,” chiming in “I want to thank the swap meet for his hat.” (Huffington Post)

And of course, there’s Justin Bieber‘s reaction to Grammy night.   Shut out from any nominations, Biebs decided to make his own party for the evening — attempting to steal the show’s thunder by live-streaming his new single.  Things didn’t quite go as planned however, and the young star was forced to tweet ”im super upset” when technical difficult caused him to change plans. The 2013 Grammys red carpet shined like a diamond on Sunday night – and Celebuzz was there.

Celebuzz’ fearless red carpet correspondent Nicole Dabeau trekked to downtown LA to report on the music superstars who were taking the biggest fashion risks – and making them payoff.

From the healthy debate over Beyonce Knowles‘ skin tight black and white pantsuit to the cut-out trend spurred by Alicia Keys and Rihanna, this red carpet didn’t fail to dazzle, despite the dress code imposed by Grammy officials for the evening.

J.Lo definitely brought the most leg to the event, showing off her world-famous gams in a hot black Anthony Zacharello gown. Not to be outdone, Katy Perry turned heads a-plenty in her low-cut, figure hugging green dress.

Seventy-six-year-old music legend Quincy Jones got a little flirty with Celebuzz’s own Nicole Dabeau while on the Grammys red carpet Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Although Dabeau was there to ask the questions, it seems Jones was more interested in learning about Dabeau’s life, instead.

“What are your roots?” He asked at the top of the interview.

Being the classy man that he is, Jones did eventually answer her questions. But that didn’t stop him from sealing the interview with a little kiss.

“You’re a beautiful lady,” he told Dabeau before kissing her on the hand.

And that’s how you do it.

The whole music universe descended on Los Angeles Sunday evening to celebrate what the Grammy Awards continuously called itself after every commercial break: The biggest night in music.

Over the evening, the producers put together all the natural elements we expect from the Grammys: cross-generational duets, a few nods to the industry’s icons – both living and dead, and several big performances.

And, of course, Celebuzz was watching for all the big moments – good and bad.

What got our attention? Well, there were some that had us cheering (Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake), others had us rolling our eyes (sorry, Taylor Swift), while a few moments had us scratching our heads in confusion (Frank Ocean, we’re looking at you).

From Timberlake’s triumphant return to Justin Bieber’s many attempts to steer the attention away from the show that snubbed him and the other antics that caught our attention, Celebuzz is pointing out the best and worst of Sunday’s awards ceremony.

Justin Timberlake made a triumphant return to the Grammys on Sunday when he performed his new single, “Suit and Tie,” about midway through the telecast.

Joined on stage by Jay-Z, the sexy singer — who married Jessica Biel late last year — looked relaxed and comfortable as ever in front of a live audience as he switched from “Suit and Tie” to another new song, “Pusher Love Girl,” off his upcoming CD, The 20/20 Experience.

And speaking of which, after his performance, Timberlake announced that his new CD will hit stores on March 19 — with two exclusive tracks available at Target.

This will be Timberlake’s first CD since he released FutureSex/LoveSounds in 2006.

Chris Brown and Rihanna said hi to their haters at the 2013 Grammy Awards. The couple, who sat next to each other, got extra cozy during the ceremony.

Rihanna cuddled up to Brown and rested her head on her beau’s shoulder while they watched Justin Timberlake perform his new hit single, “Suit & Tie.”

Rihanna was nominated this year for Best Pop Solo Performance for her song “Where Have You Been” and Best Rap/Song Collaboration for “Talk That Talk” with Jay-Z.

Rihanna’s stunning red carpet look was a custom-made Alaia dress that left very little to the imagination.

The gown was sheer in most parts and showed off Rihanna’s chest tattoo (and more.)

Even solo, Rihanna steals the spotlight.

Sashaying down the red carpet separately from recently reconciled beau Chris Brown, the “Diamonds” singer ravished in a red custom Azzedine Alaia couture gown as she arrived at the 55th annual Grammy Awards at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Sunday afternoon.

Even hours before the awards ceremony commenced — at which she’s seated beside Brown — RiRi snagged the evening’s very first golden gramophone, as “We Found Love,” her hit featuring Calvin Harris, was crowned Best Short Form Video. And with the win, Rihanna now has seven Grammys to adorn her mantle.

“It blows my mind. It’s hard to really grasp a hold of what’s happening,” she told E! News of her success. “Really, I just can’t believe it. I can’t believe the success that I’m having. I’m just really grateful; more than grateful, because it’s surpassed everything I’ve dreamed of.”

Not only will Rihanna take center stage at the Grammy ceremony, but she is also up for two more awards in the Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration categories for “Where Have You Been” and “Talk That Talk,” respectively.

And music’s biggest night isn’t all Rihanna has lined up this week. Come Monday, the Grammy winner will world-premiere the music video for her single, “Stay.”

“The video was really, really simple,” she said. “I pretty much stayed put in a bathtub. We shot it really tight in the post. There’s Mikky Ekko in the video, too. He’s actually the one who wrote the song.”

And it’s a tune that Rihanna fell head-over-heels for right away. “I just fell in love with it so much. It’s a very emotional song and it’s personal,” she said, noting that she performs it “telling a story. It needs to be powerful because it needs to be authentic.”

What’s black and white with red on the carpet? Queen Bey, of course!

Beyonce Knowles went for a less traditional look at this year’s Grammy Awards red carpet as she stunned in a black and white Osman Yousefzada pantsuit.

The “Crazy in Love” singer, who already won a 2013 Grammy Award for “Love on Top,” put her hair up in a simplistic pony tail and wore minimal jewelry with a bold red lip.

The singer has been taking it easy since her outstanding Super Bowl Halftime performance.

Singing alongside Destiny’s Child members Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, Beyonce knocked it out of the park with her 12-minute high voltage performance.

Reports initially claimed that the performance caused a black out in the New Orleans Superdome stadium, which resulted in a 40-minute black out, but it hasn’t been confirmed that the performance was to blame.

Holy cleavage, Katy!

Nominee Katy Perry turned all heads a little bit downward on Sunday when she arrived to the 2013 Grammy Awards in a mint green dress by Gucci.

The 28-year-old looked effortless, and seemed equally happy to be at the show as she talked to E! host Ryan Seacrest.

“It’s exciting because it was a perfect punctuation for a really long run,” she said of her nominations. “The record spanned over three Grammy seasons.”

She also hinted she’s in the process of making more music.

“I’m not going to try to duplicate anything. I’m just going to try to stay true to myself,” Perry said, adding her look was inspired by Priscilla Presley.

White hot!

Country crooner Taylor Swift looked remarkable on the red carpet in a Grecian-inspired white J. Mendel gown.

The singer complimented her white and silver gown with ornate braids in her updo and barely there makeup.

The 23-year-old already has one 2013 Grammy for her hit song “Safe and Sound” off of The Hunger Games soundtrack.

Swift is up for Record of the Year for “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and is in company with The Black Keys, Fun., Kelly Clarkson, Frank Ocean and Gotye for the high honors.

The singer isn’t new to the Grammy scene. Swift already has six awards for her previous records Fearless and Speak Now.

The biggest, brightest and most buzzed-about in music turned glam for the 55th annual Grammy Awards.

From Rihanna, Beyoncé and Adele to Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown and John Mayer, the industry’s ladies and gentlemen stunned in their Sunday best on the Staples Center red carpet in Los Angeles, Calif.

While the Golden Globes, Screen Actor’s Guild and Oscars guarantee classic award-show-style gowns, the Grammy Awards always brings out funkier fashion. And from off-beat outfits, to attention-grabbing nail art, to up-to-there slits, music stars delivered just that.

On the heels of CBS calling for less bellies, boobs and butts at this year’s award show, some stars staying in line with the stricter dress code. But a select few still threw caution to the wind with risqué styles, from Jennifer Lopez‘s thigh-high slit to Kelly Rowland‘s sheer cut-outs.

Although he crashed his car just hours before the telecast, Chris Brown appeared to be doing just fine at the 2013 Grammy Awards on Sunday.

The troubled singer showed up in an all-white getup by Lanvin, and was all smiles as he spoke to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet.

“No injuries, I’m fine,” he said on E!’s red carpet coverage.

In fact, the R&B singer said he had his eyes on the future as the the show inched closer to its start time.

“Tonight I’m just looking forward to the performances,” he said.

Brown, 23, crashed his black Porsche into a wall Saturday afternoon after being chased by the paparazzi.

The singer — who is nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album — was on his way to the Symphonic Love Foundation charity event in Los Angeles.

His rumored on-again, off-again girlfriend, Rihanna — whom he brutally attacked in 2009 just prior to the Grammys that year — accompanied him to a probation hearing last week, according to reports.

The show will go on, but will the Grammys beef up on extra security?

With big names like Rihanna, Beyonce Knowles and Johnny Depp all expected to attend Sunday’s Grammy Awards, much attention has been diverted to the ongoing search for Christopher Dorner, the ex-LAPD officer accused of killing three people.

The search, which has taken hundreds of cops to the San Bernardino Mountains and several other states, has no doubt reshuffled the staff at the LAPD, but spokespersons from both the Grammys and the LAPD have remained mum on any major changes in security.

“We have a very significant presence at the Grammys each year and will play an important role in event security this year,” Lt. Andy Neiman told the L.A. Times.

Prior to his killing rampage, Dorner, who was fired from the LAPD in 2008, released a manifesto containing information on who he was planning to kill and celebrities he had admired, including Ellen DeGeneres, Larry David and Christoph Waltz.

According to former LAPD bureau chief John Miller, there is an “anxiety factor” among authorities that is “unbelievable.”

“There will be the Grammys Sunday in Los Angeles, where you will have a major police command post,” he told LAist. “I’ve spoken with people there and their problems are very interesting. One problem is, can they get enough cops to police the Grammys, when they have had everyone out deployed on this?”

A reward has since been offered for anyone with information leading to the capture of Dorner, the LAPD announced Sunday morning.

On Saturday, Charlie Sheen, who was also praised in Dorner’s manifesto, released a video message in an effort to “end this thing.”

“I am urging you to call me. Let’s figure out how to end this thing. Call me, I look forward to talking to you.”

The 55th Grammy Awards, hosted by LL Cool J, will be handed out live on Sunday at 8PM ET on CBS.

Frank Ocean might be having a glass of celebratory champagne right about now to celebrate his six Grammy nominations, but not every artist was so lucky.

Carly Rae Jepsen seemed like a shoo-in for Best New Artist. So why did the Recording Academy leave her off the final list?

Sure, “Call Me Maybe” was nominated for some big prizes, including Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, but Jepsen failed to get a Best New Artist nod, which may imply that Grammy voters don’t expect her to stick around.

Meanwhile, her mentor Justin Bieber was completely snubbed by the Academy when his album Believe failed to score any nominations. “This time there wont be any wise words, no excuses, I just plain DISAGREE,” his manager Scooter Braun tweeted. “The kid deserved it. Grammy board u blew it on this one.”

Then there was Nicki Minaj, whose genre-crossing album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, was overlooked in both the pop and rap categories. It looks like for Grammy voters, sometimes less is more.

As for One Direction, the British boy band was snubbed in the Best New Artist category, despite past boy bands — like the Jonas Brothers and Backstreet Boys — scoring a nomination years prior.
