The Bluths are back!

New York City was treated to a pair of familiar faces at one of the Arrested Development promotional frozen banana stands this week. On Thursday, Jason Bateman and Will Arnett stopped by the Times Square post to hand out frozen bananas to dozens of lucky fans.

The day before, Bateman took to Twitter to express his excitement for the appearance.

“Perfect weather for banana grabbing, lunch time in Times Square tomorrow. Arnett loves a good banana and nuts in the middle of the day,” he wrote.

The show’s entire fourth season will premiere on Netflix on May 26. 

Elsewhere on the wonderful world of Twitter, Emma Watson and her green tongue (it’s temporary) confessed that she had some Nerds candy before doing some red carpet interviews at the Cannes Film Festival.

Operation Hot Mother is a go. With less than two weeks before Arrested Development‘s long-awaited fourth season, a trailer has been released. It features everything an AD fan could want: Michael, GOB, Lindsey, George Michael, Lucille, Tobias, George, Maeby and Buster. Plus an ostrich, a vulture, magic tricks illusions and Buster’s good old hook.

This season picks up in real time after we last saw the Bluths. Some things have changed: Michael looks to have finally moved to Phoenix and George Michael and Maeby are in college. Some things, however, stay the same: Tobias and Lindsey are still having marital problems and, of course, Buster still lives at home with mom.

If you’re anything like us, you’re about to blue yourself with anticipation, but hopefully this 1:36 teaser can hold you until the 26th.

It’s been seven years in the making, but last night the Bluth family was finally back together again. The cast of the much beloved show which includes Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, David Cross, Michael Cera and Alia Shawkat walked the orange carpet at the TCL Chinese Theater for the premiere of the show’s new season, which premieres on Netflix May 26.

The show joins finds the Bluth family seven years after we last saw them in the season three finale which aired in 2006. The Bluths have all split up and “time has not been kind” to any of them. “So we’re all kind of a little banged up,” Bateman, who plays Michael Bluth, said.

Everyone in the cast reiterated how excited they were for the show’s return.

De Rossi said of the reunion: “such a relief. It’s so exciting. I’ve been waiting for a long, long time.”

“Seven years in the waiting, as they say,” said Walter, who plays the cold and calculating Bluth matriarch Lucille. Calling the first day shooting “emotional, for me,” Walter added: “I care about this show a lot. It meant a lot for me in my career.”

The entire fourth season, which consists of 15 episodes, will be made available to stream on Netflix next month. In addition to the show’s full original cast, many new actors will appear in the show’s long-awaited fourth season including Kristen Wiig, John Krasinski, John Slattery, Conan O’Brien, Seth Rogen and Isla Fisher.

As for the rumors about an Arrested Development movie to follow season four, the cast played coy.

“If there is a movie, I think we’ve kind of caught the audience up from 2006 to 2012. I think that was the purpose of this series,” said de Rossi. “And now by the end of this series we’ll be in current time. That’s all I know.”

Jason Bateman stars in another film about identity theft this spring — but it’s far from funny.

In the new tech thriller Disconnect, Bateman plays Derek, a family man whose teenage son falls victim to cyber-bullying. The flick also stars Andrea Wiseborough (W.E.), Alexander Skarsgard, Hope Davis and Paula Patton.

Other storylines include a reporter crossing the line with a teenage subject she interviews and a couple who find themselves on the brink of losing everything when their identities are stolen.

“Everything you do, someone out there can see,” Frank Grillo’s character says in a voiceover in the film’s new trailer, released this week.

Bateman has been enjoying a big 2013 so far, with the release of his comedy Identity Thief with Melissa McCarthy. The film is inching closer to the $100 million mark since opening three weeks ago. The Arrested Development star is also gearing up for the highly anticipated fourth season of the popular series, set to hit Netflix this May.

Disconnect, directed by Henry Alex Rubin, opens in theaters Apr. 12.

Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman’s Identity Thief returned to first place at the box office during Oscars weekend, grossing an estimated $14.1 million. The comedy’s grand total since opening two weeks ago now stands at $93.7 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Newcomer Snitch, starring Dwayne Johnson, and the animated flick Escape From Planet Earth earned $13 million and $11 million, respectively.

Silver Linings Playbook is the only Oscar-nominated film that finished the weekend in the top 10, with $6.1 million in ticket sales.

With its weekend earnings, the David O. Russell picture has officially surpassed the $100 million mark since its wide release in November.

Keri Russell’s new horror film Dark Skies opened with a weak $8.9 million. The film couldn’t catch up to Safe Haven and last week’s box office giant A Good Day to Die Hard to finish in the top five.

A Nor’easter named Nemo and bad reviews didn’t stop moviegoers from buying tickets to Identity Thief on Friday.

The comedy starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman opened to a strong $11.2 million on its first day, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, could finish the weekend on top with $34.8 million.

The film, which gives McCarthy’s first starring role since 2011’s Bridesmaids, beat out the other newcomer of the weekend Side Effects, which grossed around $3 million.

Despite a star-studded cast that also includes Amanda Peet, Jon Favreau and rapper T.I. Identity Thief has not received the kindest of words from critics.

“Identity Thief is essentially a sloppy ‘80s character comedy with a sleeker 2013 editing and scripting sensibility,” Tasha Robinson of The A.V. Club wrote, comparing it to director Seth Gordon’s other miss, Horrible Bosses.

Peter Debruge of Variety called the picture’s storyline “meager” while The Wrap’s Alonso Duralde says the film squanders Bateman’s “gifts.”

As blizzard Nemo blasts across the East Coast, Hollywood is bracing for what could be a record-breaking whiteout.

Whether its sending well-wishes to those in its path, bemoaning thwarted travel plans, or quipping about the name Nemo — he’s finally be found! — celebrities are turning to Twitter as they wrap their head around the snowstorm that threatening to wreak havoc in wake of Superstorm Sandy.

While many New Yorkers brave the snowflakes for the sake of Fashion Week — from Heidi Klum, to Michael Kors, to Peter Facinelli — others in the Tri-state area are hunkering down in the warmth of their homes, from Ashley Greene in Manhattan to Nicole “Snooki” Polizziin New Jersey.

But NYFW isn’t the only show that must go on. Justin Bieber, who is slated for double-duty as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend, rose bright-and-early Friday for rehearsals in NBC’s Big Apple studio. “up real early today…and now a blizzard is coming,” he tweeted. “no issue. Im Canadian.”

And with the refreshing rise of female comedic actresses, from out the shadows emerges Melissa McCarthy.

The 42-year-old funny girl isn’t new to acting. In fact, she’s been ­­cracking people up for years.

Her numerous supporting parts in Charlies Angels, Samantha Who? and Life as We Know It have were well-received, while her sitcom Mike and Molly, in which she embraces her plus-sized figure and finds love in an Overeaters Anonymous group, garnered her an Emmy.

But major fame didn’t come until recently, when she received Oscar-caliber recognition with an award nomination for her riotous role as Megan, the abrasive, butch sister-in-law-to-be, in Bridesmaids.

And it’s only been uphill from there.

Now, having mastered the art of the outrageous sidekick and perfected the parameters of comedic relief, Melissa gets a chance to step off the sidelines and shine on her own with a leading role in the new movie Identity Thief.

In the funny film out Friday, McCarthy plays Diana, the unsuspecting scam artist who is living large after robbing Sandy Bigelow Patterson (Jason Bateman), a quintessential nice guy with a gender-neutral name, of his identity. She is now the irritating moving target in Sandy’s life and he’ll stop at nothing to reclaim his self.

McCarthy may just be getting her moment now, but Celebuzz remembers this star from her Gilmore Girls days.

As Sookie St James, McCarthy was a necessary fixture in the quick-witted, culturally positioned mother-daughter series. The scatterbrain top chef and lovable friend to Lorelai Gilmore, she scored lots of laughs with her klutzy demeanor, ridiculous ramblings and sheer quirkiness.

She was an absolutely affable addition to the sometimes-serious cast.

After reading reviews for this weekend’s new comedy, Identity Thief, it’s like the critics challenged each other to a contest of who can come up with the most creative way to dislike the movie.

Bridesmaids’ breakout star, Melissa McCarthy, joins Jason Bateman in director Seth Gordon’s follow-up to Horrible Bosses. In Thief, McCarthy plays a brash woman responsible for stealing the identity of Bateman’s character, Sandy. The two are forced to team-up for the most awkward road trip ever, full of endless jokes aimed at Sandy’s less-than-masculine name.

Zombie love ruled at the box-office last week, but can the heartfelt undead defend themselves against fighter jets, poison pills and identity theft? Taking in nearly $21 million, Warm Bodies will have to hold up against the Jason Bateman-Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief, the pharmacological thriller Side Effects from director Steven Soderbergh and the IMAX 3D re-release of Top Gun.

With the last few months being fairly top-heavy will horror/thriller releases, we’re willing to bet that Identity Thief will steal itself the top slot with a much needed dose of comedy. Despite being the critical darling of the group, however, it’s difficult to say whether Side Effects will find its audience.

Taking her place among the reigning queens of comedy, Melissa McCarthy took a long time getting there, coming up on TV shows like The Gilmore Girls, Samantha Who and Mike & Molly.

You could call it the school of hard knocks, which would make her new movie Identity Thief a PHD program. A slam in the head with a guitar, a near miss with a 32-pound panini maker, and a hostile meet-and-greet with the front bumper of a car are just a few of the hazards McCarthy endured on the set of the new comedy.

“I got hurt a lot and I’m apparently an idiot,” she told reporters last weekend in Beverly Hills. “At the end of it I was like, ‘There was that stunt woman there for so much of this.’ I dunno, I think I get kind of excited to do it, and then I don’t really think about doing it 42 times.”

In her new movie, she plays an identity thief pursued by her victim, played by Jason Bateman. McCarthy’s role was originally written for a man, but after seeing her at the premiere of Bridesmaids, Bateman called Universal to suggest her for the part.

“They said, ‘Why don’t you see if you could go get her?” recalled Bateman. “So I took her out to a quick meal and had her sign something while she was passed out from the booze,” he joked.

She could have used some of that booze to dull the pain during production. In one scene, Bateman confronts her in her apartment and a physical altercation ensues.

“I saw the guitar there while we were rehearsing. And we were trying to figure out a way to stop her from leaving and we didn’t want to do the tackling of her yet,” said Bateman. “And I said, ‘What if I take her off her feet with this guitar?’ kind of joking, but not really.”

McCarthy got a sense for what was coming and quickly spoke up, “You’re kidding, right?” But director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) just kept laughing and Bateman started taking a few practice swings with the guitar. “And I was like, ‘Oh God, I think I’m gonna get hit in the face with a guitar,” groaned McCarthy.

And that’s not all she got hit with. Later in the scene, as she makes a break for the door, Bateman’s character picks up a panini maker and hurls it at her head.

“There were about 14 fake panini machines that weigh about a quarter of an ounce cause they’re foam, and then there was one real one that weighs like 32 pounds,” growled McCarthy. “And the first time we did that run to the door, he picked up the real one and let that thing fly toward my head.”

“Missed her,” interjected Bateman. “I didn’t know that there were any light ones. I thought they were all real.”

For all the hits she took making Identity Thief, McCarthy got some revenge when Bateman had to tangle with a live snake on the set. In one scene, the pair are stuck in the wilderness without a car or money, sleeping under the stars when a king snake attacks Bateman.

“They said, ‘There’s no way that the snake will ever come anywhere near you,” grinned McCarthy. “Then they put the snake down and it made a bee-line for his leg, which I really enjoyed.”

“Right up my pant leg and got basically all the way up to my kneecap before they yelled cut,” added Bateman. “So I had to endure a full night with a seven foot king snake, one that wrapped itself around my neck.”

In the end, producers found a CG snake to be more effective than the real thing, so they scrapped the footage they shot with Bateman and the snake.

“None of it’s in the movie,” he lamented. “I think we have the snake traveling towards my body, but that’s about it.”

Seated next to him, recalling all their bumps and bruises, McCarthy summed it up succinctly, “It was a dicey shoot.”

Both McCarthy and Bateman are at the top of their game these days that their casting as this mismatched duo is actually something of a comedic no-brainer.

Jason Bateman is about to live in a house worthy of an Oscar winner — literally.

According to Trulia, the Arrested Development star and his wife, Amanda Anka, closed a $3 million deal on Jan. 23 to live in a home occupied by the late Ernest Borgnine, who died late last year of kidney failure.

So, what will the hefty price tag get them?

Among the many amenities: five bedrooms; seven bathrooms; a paneled library; a formal sitting room; a private guesthouse; and nice views of Mulholland Drive.

Who knew Borgnine had such spacious and stylish digs?

After getting canceled by FOX in 2006, Arrested Development will return for another batch of episodes (14, to be exact) in May, on the popular streaming website Netflix.

The show’s entire original cast will return for the much-anticipated reboot.

The first official still for Arrested Development‘s highly-anticipated fourth season has hit the web.

Conan O’Brien, who was confirmed for a guest spot on the cult comedy earlier this year, shared the new season’s first look on his Twitter, writing:

“Here’s the 1st official photo from the new Arrested Development on @Netflix. Spoiler alert: I’m an amazing actor.”

In the photo, series lead Jason Bateman — reprising his role as the family’s worrywart Michael Bluth — is seen speaking to the talk show host and his sidekick Andy Richter.

Diehard fans will remember that Richter has made cameos on the show in the past as his fictional quintuplet brothers Donnie, Chareth, Rocky and Emmitt Richter. The word’s still out if the actor will be finally playing himself in the upcoming season, which will be made available exclusively on Netflix in 2013.

Fan favorites Liza Minnelli and Mae Whitman, who plays Lucille 2 and Ann (her?) respectively, are too set to return to Arrested Development. The new season will also see appearances by John Slattery, Henry Winkler and Isla Fisher.

Some of the cast members have gotten in trouble in the past for reportedly “leaking” information regarding the show’s upcoming episodes.

“[Show creator Mitch Hurwitz] has been yelling at me because, like, stuff in the background I’m accidentally getting that actually has some relevance and I don’t realize it. So I’ve stopped,” Bateman told Vulture in September.

One incriminating tweet included Bateman spilling about an upcoming cameo from the cast of Comedy Central’s Workaholics.

The actor said of the flub:

Well, I wanted to take a shot on the first day of lights and camera and, like, “obviously, he’s on a set,” and in that shot are a couple of cast members from a show Workaholics. And after I took that picture, like hours afterwards, I was talking to those actors and a kid came up asking for their autograph. And I said, “Are you guys in a movie or a show or something?” And they were like, “Yeah, we’re in this show called Workaholics.” And I was like, “Oh cool, I gotta see that.” And then of course once the Tweet was up, I’d already sent out the Tweet, but I didn’t put two and two together and a day later I saw that it was all over the boards: “Oh my god! The Workaholics are in it!” Mitch said, “Hey man …” [does scowling Mitch impersonation].

Liza Minnelli and Mae Whitman, who plays Lucille 2 and Ann (her?) respectively, will also return for the series’ highly-anticipated fourth season.

Will the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson please stand up?

Melissa McCarthy is one sneaky criminal in her new film, Identity Thief.

In the comedy, the 42-year-old funny woman is Diana, a Miami resident who basks in the joys of unlimited credit card spending, thanks to the stolen identity of Patterson, played by Jason Bateman.

All is well in Diana’s world until the real Patterson catches up to her, halfway across the country.

“Here’s my driver’s license with my name, Sandy Bigelow Patterson. Gotcha,” Bateman’s character says after an intentional rear-ender with his thief.

‘Identity Thief,’ out in February, also features a pretty impressive star-studded cast.

Directed by Seth Gordon (who worked with Bateman in 2011’s Horrible Bosses), the comedy also stars John Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Amanda Peet, Jon Favreau and T.I.

If the trailer is any indication, the film contains some of the best comedic lines in recent memory (“Look at her, she’s like a hobbit. I can handle her. I’m going after Bilbo”).

In other Bateman news, the 43-year-old is, of course, at work resurrecting Arrested Development. The long-awaited Season 4 will premiere on Netflix in spring of 2013.

Well, that’s one of the main ideas behind Morgan Spurlock‘s (Super Size Me) new documentary, Mansome. All about the evolution of male grooming habits, Arrested Development stars Jason Bateman and Will Arnett helped produce the project, and while it’s getting plenty of buzz, Celebuzz was able to get an exclusive look at one of the doc’s extra scenes.

Always eager to make each other laugh, Bateman harps on the Arnett as he gets a rejuvenating facial.

Horrible Bosses star Jason Bateman took his 5-year-old daughter Francesca to Disneyland on Wednesday, and the two were seen riding the Alice in Wonderland attraction. Throwing up a wave and a smile, Jason and his little girl look like they had a great time!

We guess Francesca’s little baby sister couldn’t make the trip quite yet!

Jason and his wife Amanda Anka welcomed a daughter named Maple Sylvie in LA on February 10. We’re sure once she’s big enough, the whole family will go!

People reports that little Maple Sylvie was born on February 10 in Los Angeles, and joins big sis Francesca Nora, 5.

Olivia Wilde looked like she was having the time of her life while filming her latest flick, The Longest Week. Hanging on very tightly to her costar, Olivia hitched a ride with Jason Bateman, sitting on the back of his Vespa scooter while they shot a scene in Brooklyn Heights. The duo shared a laugh and smiled as the cameras rolled.

Last week, the stars were spotted getting up close and personal this week, with lots of kissing, cuddling and hand-holding. It looks like these two have some serious chemistry together!

Off screen, rumors are swirling about her romantic life. According to Us Weekly, Olivia is dating SNL hottie Jason Sudeikis. The two were spotted together at the show’s afterparty at NYC’s Loi on Dec. 4. Reps for the two stars have yet to comment on the story.
