When it comes to Christmas music, it looks like two of the music industry’s biggest artists prefer the pop tunes to the religious ones.

“Favorite holiday song? ‘The Christmas Song,’” singer Ne-Yo told Celebuzz last Friday, before belting out a few lines from the Nat King Cole classic.

“I’m a holiday nut, I love ‘Sleigh Ride,’ I love ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside,’ I love ‘Winter Wonderland,’”" soft rock crooner Jason Mraz said. “They’re all inclusive, except for those in the southern hemisphere where they’re not getting much snow, then I feel bad that I’m singing about snow.”

“It’s hard to place your heart in the right place.”

The singers were just two of a slew of performers at the annual Z100 Jingle Ball show, which was held at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

For Mraz, the holidays are about turning everything off.

“I go off the grid. I go home. I’ve never played a New Year’s show or anything. I love to just go back to Virginia, put on a scarf, be with the family. It’s really great,” he told us.

As for his New Year’s resolution?

“Live the dream. it’s all about living the dream 2013,” the “I’m Yours” singer said.

On the other hand, Ne-Yo’s way of coming up with resolutions involves as little work as possible.

“Here’s the trick: you wait till the last hour or so of the year and then you make [your resolution]. So all the way up to that time, you can screw up as much as you want,” he said.

With the holidays in full swing throughout the country, the First Family turned to Hollywood to help light things up at the nation’s capitol.

President Barack Obama — along with First Lady Michelle (who also celebrated her recent Grammy nod) and their daughters Malia and Sasha — brought on board a number of celebs for the 90th annual tree lighting on Thursday evening, beginning the official start of the holiday season in Washington, D.C.

With Neil Patrick Harris presiding over the ceremony, stars such as Modern Family actor Rico Rodriguez, the Fray, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat, James Taylor and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds treated 17,000 spectators to fun-filled performances at the Ellipse, a 52-acre park located between the White House and the National Mall.

Although he officially secured his reelection in November, the POTUS couldn’t help but crack one last political joke before kicking off the annual tradition:

“Our tree has been having a hard time recently. This is our third one in as many years,” Obama remarked about 28-foot-tall blue spruce. “It just goes to show, nobody’s job is safe.”

Looks like the Commander-in-Chief’s festive spirit stood unwavered: the Obamas, Harris and the rest of the group closed out the night with a rousing rendition of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.” Oh, what fun, indeed!

Grammy winner Jason Mraz proposed to singer/songwriter Tristan Prettyman on Thursday night, and as the 33-year-old singer tweeted this morning, “SHE SAID YES.”

His bride-to-be joined in the Twitter celebration moments later: “For Once. I Am Speechless….. i did good! holy crap! man of my dreams!!! for the rest of my life!!!”

Tristan, a 28-year-old former Roxy model, is reportedly working on her third acoustic album. Jason’s most recent release, the Life is Good EP, has been on sale since October 5.

Sounds like the Jonas Brothers might have been stealing more than just teenage girls’ hearts lately. 

“The Beauty in Ugly” singer Jason Mraz tells PopEater that he’s noticed heavy similarities between his 2008 hit “I’m Yours” and the JoBros’ “Introducing Me,” from Camp Rock 2—so many similarities, in fact, as to strain the bounds of coincidence. 

Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas should rest easy, though. Mraz won’t be seeking damages in court over the matter. He does, however, think that some sort of compensation is in order:

“I heard the song, and it was just a tremendous, tremendous horror of a tune. I noticed a few similarities in the melody, but it wasn’t enough to pick up the phone and argue with somebody about it. If anything, I just wanted my $1.29 back that I spent on iTunes.” 

Ouch!

Glee’s awesomely-named new guy Chord Overstreet made his full-blown singing-and-guitar-playing debut on last night’s duets episode, winning the intense competition and possibly the heart of head cheerleader Quinn (Dianna Agron).  Not bad for one of his first episodes!

Chord helped Dianna strum a few chords (sorry, we couldn’t resist) on his guitar for their heartwarmingly charming duet to “Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. As the Glee clubbers swooned, the world saw exactly why Rumer Willis might have fallen for Chord.

Kim Kardashian gives a damn, people!! In a new video series as part of the “Give a Damn Campaign”, launched by Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund, Kim joins the likes of Elton John, Jason Mraz and Whoopi Goldberg to voice her support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality!

Kim says on her official blog:

I think sometimes as straight people we take equality for granted because we don’t come up against the same barriers many gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people do. I want to ask you all to give a damn. Give a damn that people around you are being victimized simply for being who they are. Give a damn that young adults are ending their lives because of the bullying they are subjected to. All you have to do is give a damn.

While Jennifer Hudson slowly but surely comes back into public life, she continues to dominate attention with each appearance. Tonight’s Grammy Awards red carpet was no exception.

Hudson, braving the press line after her familial tragedy this past summer, acknowledged that “nothing phases” her at this point.

She referred to her experience of singing at this month’s Superbowl as “surreal” and introduced the world to her fiance, attorney David Otunga.

When asked what linked them as a couple Otunga commented that Hudson “fits me like a glove” and acknowledged that dealing with the shooting death of her mother, brother and nephew this past summer brought them closer together as a couple.

The icing on the cake? Hudson won a Grammy for Best R&B album, presented by another comeback diva, Whitney Houston.

Elsewhere, Miley Cyrus talked about her impending Grammy duet with Taylor Swift on Swift’s song “Fifteen” and why that song appealed to her.

“Most everything I went through was when I was 15 years old. A lot of things happened in the past, it was very inspiring to go back with that.”

Cyrus was also asked about a rumor that her little sister Noah was taking over her role as Hannah Montana.

“It’s not true. She is turning into me slowly but surely. She likes the wig a little too much, but it’s not true.

Grammy performer Carrie Underwood, in a gold dress adorned with crystals, says that her life just keeps getting better since her huge success, especially “the affection, the hair, the makeup.”

First time Grammy nominee Katy Perry had trouble walking in her tight pink dress with a huge bow on front and admitted she was sweating “from every gland.” She also revealed that she would be employing a “phallic symbol” during the ceremony that was full of “potassium.” Hopefully she meant bananna.

Nominee for her song “Chasing Pavements,” Britain’s Adelle revealed that she wrote her hit song about tracking an ex-boyfriend down at a club and punching him in the mouth. When asked where the ex was nowadays, she revealed that he’s working at a cell phone shop in London “and I’m at the Grammys.”

Jennifer Aniston‘s boyfriend and Grammy nominee John Mayer, dressed in a black satin Nehru jacket, revealed why he and Aniston finally spoke about their relationship on the Ellen show.

Mayer will appear on Ellen DeGeneres‘ show on Monday and said that Ellen “is so comfortable” that he could admit “yeah, I sleep over.” Mayer also joked that his life is normal although “I own a golden helicopter that I fly to Malibu.”

Actress Kate Beckinsale, in a black Reem Acra dress, noted that was there to see one band in particular because “I fell in love [with her husband, director Len Wiseman] to Coldplay.”

And last but not least, party-necessity Paris Hilton was on the red carpet. When Ryan Seacrest asked her why she didn’t have a man with her to accompany her to the afterparties, she quipped “you don’t bring sand to the beach.”

That might be the smartest thing she’s ever said.
