It takes a brave man to read erotic novel 50 Shades of Grey, let alone sing along to it!

“Shadow Days” crooner John Mayer recently revealed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon that he attempted to woo a female fan by singing a page of EL James‘ sexy book that has swept the nation. According to the 34-year-old ladies man, “I was trying to impress her, and she had [the book] on her Kindle. And so I said, ‘I’m going to sing it to you.’ So I sang her one of the pages of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’”

How did the woman react?

John said she fell to the ground…laughing!

John Mayer Puts His ‘Idiot’ Days Behind (VIDEO)

John Mayer is ready to move on, after being super candid in interviews about his sex life and exes, Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson back in 2010.

The singer/songwriter sat down with Ellen DeGeneres for a now-rare interview airing Tuesday and revealed he has learned from his mistakes and won’t be opening his stupid mouth again.

“It was a very strange time and it sort of rocketed me into adulthood. It was a violent crash into being an adult,” Mayer told DeGeneres. “For a couple of years, it was just figuring it all out, and I’m glad I actually stayed out of the spotlight… It was like, ‘No, idiot. Go away and be 33 and 34 instead of 28 for the fourth year.’”

With a new album on the horizon, Mayer is also dealing with some lingering vocal-cord issues. Will he ever be able to sing again?

The “Shadow Days” singer — whose new album, Born and Raised, will be released May 22 — revealed medical issues have caused him to cancel his spring tour and scale back on album promotion.

“They cut this thing out of your throat and then they inject your vocal cords with Botox, which freezes your vocal cords so that this thing can heal without smacking up against the other side. I just need more Botox next time,” he explained. “It’s not a health concern whatsoever, but it has taken me out of singing. I tried to beat it the first time and couldn’t.”

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer have been broken up for a few years now, but it appears as though it’s taken a while for the heartbreak wounds to heal.

US Weekly is reporting that John, 34, wrote “Shadow Days,” his latest single, about the 43-year-old Friends star, and his now ex-girlfriend. With lyrics such as, “You find yourself alone…I found myself in pieces/On my hotel floor/Hard times help me see/I’m a good man with a good heart/Had a tough time, got a rough start/And I finally learned to let it go,” the magazine’s source says, “It really took him a long time to get over her. He really loved her a lot.”

The “Your Body is a Wonderland” singer wouldn’t be the only star to pen a tune dedicated to an ex.

From the fairly obvious ones, such as Katy Perry‘s latest single “Part of Me,” (about ex-husband Russell Brand), to more ambigious tunes such as Selena Gomez‘s “Bang Bang Bang” (which many think is about her ex Nick Jonas) relive these celeb break-ups in song form by clicking through the gallery!

Also, US Weekly’s source tells them he wrote the song because, “as a farewell letter knowing [Jen] would hear it. Ultimately he’s done a lot of self reflection though and it he realizes they weren’t right for each other.”

The couple started dating in early 2008, with their on again off again relationship ending in late 2009. Since May 2011, Jen has been dating her Wanderlust co-star Justin Theroux.

John Mayer‘s much-anticipated comeback is being put on hold again. The crooner announced on his blog that the granuloma that put his career on temporary hiatus last year has grown back.

“I have no choice but to take an indefinite break from live performing. Though there will be a day when all of this will be behind me, it will sideline me for a longer period of time than I care to have you count down.”

His album, Born and Raised, will be released as scheduled May 22, but his tour plans have been cancelled.

“During rehearsal on Tuesday, it came to mind that I should see my throat doctor because something didn’t feel/sound right,” he wrote. “I went in for a visit on Wednesday and a scope of my vocal cords revealed that the granuloma has grown back where it had mostly healed.”

He added: “I’m pretty emotionally burnt out at the moment, but please know how hard I tried to resolve this and how disappointed I am that I can’t perform this record yet. I’m completely bummed, especially for all of you who started making plans to see a show… the only thing that stops me from devolving into a puddle of tears is knowing that it’s a long life, and the greatest gift in the world is being able to create music no matter what the circumstances.”

John Mayer Releasing New Album ‘Born and Raised’ on May 22

Are you ready for some brand-new John Mayer music? We know we are!

The singer not only debuted a new single earlier this week, but he has announced he’ll be releasing a new album, titled Born and Raised, on May 22. The 12 track album will feature songs such as “Queen of California,” “The Age of Worry,” and “Love is a Verb.”

Also, you can catch the Grammy-winner live, as he’ll be kicking off an 18-date tour on April 9.

Things have been pretty mum on the Taylor Swift romance front for quite some time, but is there a new man in her life?

According to Perez Hilton, the country cutie has been spending lots of time with Will Anderson from the band Parachute. They were recently seen on a coffee run in Nashville (Will’s in the sunglasses in the above photo), and when Tay is around, they hang out about “three to four times” a week. Also, the two even posted the same photos to their Instagram accounts! While much of this evidence hardly a couple makes, there is always the possibility that these two friends could turn into something more.

T-Swift is no stranger to vocalizing her feelings (especially when it comes to love) so this got us thinking about the previous fellas in her life.

It’s no secret that John Mayer has had his share of relationship faux pas. Although he’s recently kept his private life (and his mouth) quiet, it’s difficult to forget how he described Jessica Simpson as a “sexual napalm” or how he dated and dumped a slew of A-list women like Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift.

After making headlines for all his breakups, the “My Stupid Mouth” singer decided to seek out some real relationship advice from VH1′s Tough Love host, Steve Ward. Steve tells Celebuzz that he bumped into Mayer at a VH1 Save The Music Foundation event last year and was surprised when the singer pulled him aside to get intimate advice about why his relationships have all fizzled.

“When he had me alone, John asked me what I thought about his love life, so I told him point blank, ‘I think you got a chip on your shoulder, man. You’re pissed off about your childhood or being bullied, and now you unfortunately take it out on women.’”

John was apparently taken aback, but Steve continued dish the singer some tough love.

“I told him he had to realize that he had won. He was ten times more successful than the next most successful person to come out of his high school. And odds are, they had to graduate to be that successful. I told him, ‘If I were you, I’d pat myself on the back, and let go of it,’” he recalled.

Steve believes there is hope for Mayer, and that he’ll eventually find the woman of his dreams — as long as he follows the Tough Love advice.

Say What?! Celebrity Foot-In-The-Mouth Moments (PHOTOS)

With the media and public’s constant watch, celebrities often have to watch what they say. But not everyone can escape the occasional gaffe.

In the November issue of Vanity Fair, Johnny Depp revealed his extreme disdain for photo shoots, and even went as far to compare it to violent sexual assault.

“Well, you just feel like you’re being raped somehow. Raped…It feels like a kind of weird–just weird,” the Rum Diary actor said. “But whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it’s like–you just feel dumb.”

Depp’s quote didn’t fare well in the public spotlight. The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) vehemently disagreed with the statement, which Depp quickly responded to with a sincere apology on Tuesday, saying:

“I am truly sorry for offending anyone in any way. I never meant to. It was a poor choice of words on my part in an effort to explain a feeling,” the actor remarked. “I understand there is no comparison, and I am very regretful. In an effort to correct my lack of judgment, please accept my heartfelt apology.”

The Pirates of the Caribbean star isn’t the only celebrity under heat for controversial statements. Brad Pitt‘s comments about his former marriage to Jennifer Aniston during a Parade interview caused the Moneyball star to think twice about his statements.

“All I know is that my point was, the best thing I’d done as a father is be sure that my kids have a good mother….That’s all I was, or am, trying to say, ” he told Matt Lauer. “It has no reference to the past. And I think it’s a shame that I can’t say something nice about Angie without Jen being drug in. You know, she doesn’t deserve it.”

Brad’s comments got us thinking about John Mayer‘s infamous 2010 commentary about ex-girlfriend, Jessica Simpson. “That girl, for me, is a drug, “said the 33-year-old singer. “And drugs aren’t good for you if you do lots of them. Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me…Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm…”

Then, late last week, country crooner, Hank Williams Jr.’s comparison of Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler during a Fox & Friends interview caused jaws to drop across the nation. ESPN pulled his theme song from its Monday Night Football opening, and Williams issued an apologetic reply afterward.

John Mayer: Making a Play for Eva Longoria?

John Mayer sure is a nice guy. Even as Eva Longoria struggles to come to grips with the dissolution of her marriage, the Battle Studies crooner is reportedly willing to step in and comfort the Desperate Housewives beauty in her time of need.

A source close to Mayer tells PopEater’s Rob Shuter that the puppy-eyed troubadour and noted womanizer has had his eye on Longoria, who filed for divorce from her husband Tony Parker last month, and now that she’s on her way to being a free woman, it’s high time to swoop in. The Mayer pal spills,

“John is crazy about Eva. There is something about newly-divorced ladies that drives him nuts. He was the same way over Jessica [Simpson] when she left Nick [Lachey], and now he has his eye on Eva.”

The only hitch? Longoria, shockingly, might not be receptive to Mayer’s advances. According to a source close to the actress,

“No way is Eva thinking of another man right now. Mayer can send all the flowers in the world and even show up under her window with his guitar and it would make no difference. Eva wants some alone time. She is still heartbroken about her marriage falling apart.”

What a shame; now Mayer might never find out what kind of sexual incendiary substance Longoria is.
