Disney has officially announced its first three cast members for the upcoming screen adaptation of Into The Woods. Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp are set to star as well as British actor James Corden.

Streep and Depp, of course, require no introduction, but Corden — who is playing the Baker — will be mostly unfamiliar to American audiences. He did, however, win the Tony Award last year for his starring role in One Man, Two Guvnors. The film will be directed by Rob Marshall, who has previously directed the big screen adaptations of  Broadway hits Chicago and Nine.

Into the Woods, written by Stephen Sondheim, weaves the stories of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales together, taking characters from “The Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Cinderella” and “Rapunzel.” It made its Broadway debut in 1987 and has been a favorite ever since. This is to be the first film adaptation of the play, however, after two previous planned productions fell through in the ’90s.

In its casting announcement released today, Disney also confirms that Meryl Streep will be playing the villainous (or is she?) Witch and Depp will play the Wolf. Both had been rumored to be attached to the project, but today’s announcement is the first official confirmation.

Streep and Depp have never worked together previously, though they were originally supposed to star together in Sweeney Todd, Streep’s role eventually went to Helena Bonham Carter.

According to Disney’s press release, none of the show’s other parts have been filled including the lead role of the Baker’s Wife. Filming is set to begin in September of this year in London.

Romance rumors are swirling once again.

Almost 10 months since confirming his split from his longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, Johnny Depp is spotted with The Rum Diary co-star Amber Heard around his arm — and packing on the PDA.

The couple, who have yet to confirm or deny a relationship, were seen holding hands as they left The Rolling Stones’ backstage party at the Los Angeles’ Echoplex this weekend. Depp, 49, and Heard, 27, kept their head down low as they quietly exited the venue before driving away in the same car.

Previously, Heard was linked to Tasya van Ree and French model Marie de Villepin.

Meanwhile, Depp and Paradis had been in together since 1998 before calling it quits last June. They have two children together: Lily-Rose and Jack.

Johnny Depp and Arnie Hammer are about to get into some EXPLOSIVE new situations.

In the latest clip we see the masked vigilante (Hammer) taking his famous white stallion for a very high train ride through a narrow tunnel.

And CB! has the newest clip that showcases the nail-biting sequence for the new blockbuster.

The latest trailer, starring Depp as Tonto, explains the murder that propelled the hero into his life as an outlaw.

Reid (Hammer) returns from the city to start a new life in the West where he becomes a Texas Ranger. But when seven of his division are shot by a band of outlaws he has to be nursed back to health by Tonto.

The pair then track down the man that killed Reid’s brother, The Captain, to a seedy bar run by Helena Bonham Carter’s character — a hunt that leads them to a corrupt band of treasure hunters who are monopolizing the railroad and cavalry industries.

“If these men represent the law, I’d rather be an outlaw,” declares the Lone Ranger.

The new clip ends in explosive fashion with the Lone Ranger riding his white horse through — and over — a train before the pair blow up a bridge.

The Lone Ranger opens across America on July 3.

Here’s another trailer to prepare moviegoers for the summer blockbuster season.

Following the footsteps of Man of Steel and Star Trek Into Darkness, which unleashed brand new trailers earlier this week, Walt Disney Pictures released the final theatrical trailer for The Lone Ranger on Wednesday.

The film, starring Armie Hammer as the title character and Johnny Depp as spirit warrior Tonto, is based on the popular TV show of the same name from back in the day, as well as a radio show from the ‘30s.

The new trailer, which runs for some 2 minutes and 32 seconds, reveals more witty dialogue between the film’s lead characters, along with new scenes featuring Helena Bonham Carter, who plays Red Harrington.

Hammer, 26, most recently appeared in the 2012 Snow White film Mirror Mirror alongside Julia Roberts and Lily Collins, while Depp, 49, was last seen in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows.

The Lone Ranger, directed by Gore Verbinski and co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, opens nationwide on July 3.

Ke$ha‘s not quite done yet talking about her sex life just yet.

After infamously revealing she had a “dark, sexual” encounter with a ghost once, the raunchy songstress has gone on the record again to talk about another intimate experience — this time one involving actor Johnny Depp.

“Me and Johnny Depp had eyeball sex at the benefit concert for Superstorm Sandy in LA,” the 26-year-old boasts to UK’s Metro. “We never really talked – we just had eyeball sex.”

“I don’t want a guy talking too much about their damn emotions. I get a little over that,” she continues. “I just want a guy who has a big penis and a car.”

However, Depp – who split with girlfriend Vanessa Paradis last June — isn’t the only celeb Ke$ha is crushing on.

Previously, the singer has spoken about wanting to “make out” with The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis, telling The Morning Mash radio show, “He’s amazing. I like big, fat guys with beards that wear thick glasses.”

Though Ke$ha’s tendency to talk about sex to the press may raise a few eyebrows, the “Die Young” crooner argues that “if men in music talk about sex, girls, strippers and partying, then why can’t I?”

“Just because I’m a woman, it doesn’t make me a drunk or a slut.”

When Johnny Depp comes to a town of less than 2,000, people are sure to take notice.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star spent last week in Carnation, Wash., where he’s been filming an upcoming project Lucky Them with Toni Colette and Thomas Hayden Church – and causing quite a buzz.

The 49-year-old was spotted in the town’s center on Bird Street where he greeted fans, and by the looks of it, even serenaded a few lucky locals with his guitar playing skills — and Celebuzz has the photo proof.

Eyewitnesses at the Linnerooth Team Realtors saw Depp filming re-shoots for the flick, which is slated for a 2014 release, and posed for photos with the actor.

Depp reportedly flew in the night prior and stayed at the Salish Lodge & Spa in the small nearby town of Snoqualmie.

According to its Facebook (which has since been taken down):

“Salish had a celebrity sighting earlier this week. Johnny Depp dined with us and in case you were wondering, he had our beet salad and tenderloin.”

Although Depp has made a scene, producers want the neighbors to keep his presence on the DL.

“The movie producers have asked people in town to take down their photos and tweets and locals have been urged to stay mum on the celebrity sighting,” according to a local who wished to remain anonymous.

Depp is currently back in Los Angeles, but the photos look like he fit right in during his Washington work trip.

After 85 years of dispensing awards, the Oscars have become something of a measuring stick for judging, and then recognizing, the best and brightest talents in Hollywood. But with so many great movies, performances and behind-the-scenes efforts, and so few slots for nominations, it comes as little surprise that more than a handful of great accomplishments go unrecognized each year.

But after two years? Five? Ten? It seems impossible to think that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would fail to find some reason why certain industry icons deserve to take home one of those little gold statuettes.

And yet, Celebuzz has found not two, or five, or ten, but 25 performers and filmmakers who have never won an Oscar – and in a few cases, have never received nominations.

While the most egregious oversight in Oscar history might be never awarding a Best Director statuette to Stanley Kubrick, the filmmaker did in fact receive recognition in 1968 for Visual Effects for his work on 2001: A Space Odyssey. And Alfred Hitchcock, another industry luminary, received an honorary Oscar, but was never recognized for an individual film, despite receiving nominations for Psycho and other classic suspense thrillers.

But more recently, actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Liam Neeson and Johnny Depp have failed to win awards against their colleagues and contemporaries, regardless of the fact that they’ve given some of the most unique, interesting, and perhaps most importantly, memorable performances in cinema history.

Glad you’re OK, Johnny Depp!

During a Thursday night appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, the actor revealed a story about nearly getting “horrifically mangled” on the set of his upcoming movie The Lone Ranger.

“There was one moment in particular where it got unpleasant,” he said.

In the Disney action flick, Depp’s role as Tonto required him to learn horseback riding, oftentimes at top speeds.

“We’d been running them all day, and they weren’t really interested in slowing down, at all,” Depp recalled. “My horse that I was on decided to jump a couple of these little obstacles. The horse was unaware that the saddle I was wearing to sit on top of it was sort of jerry-rigged, kind of faked.”

Shooting in the desert, the horse’s saddle came loose as they hit uneven pavement, despite Depp’s best attempts to reign control.

“When we came down, the saddle slipped, and I went to the left and had the reins here, and somehow had the wherewithal to grab his mane — all very calm for some reason. I figured fear would kick in, but it didn’t,” he said.

The 49-year-old, who performed all of his own stunts for the film,  prevented himself from being thrown by grabbing onto the mane of the horse. However, he had to make a harrowing decision: wait until the horse was wrangled, or to drop.

Depp chose to drop and “hit the deck pretty hard,” as landed on his back.

His near-death experience prompted Letterman to question the stuntmen’s whereabouts.

“Where are the stunt people, for heaven’s sake?” Letterman asked. “You’re Tonto, you don’t need that!”

“That’s the exact same question I asked,” answered Depp.

As the program came to an end, Depp strapped on his guitar as he joined his pal and singer-songwriter Bill Carter on stage to perform “Anything Made of Paper,” a musical tribute to Damien Echols of West Memphis Three fame. Depp has been a longtime supporter of Echols and his two longtime friends, all whom were wrongly convicted of the murders of three young boys in Arkansas.

The Lone Ranger hits theaters nationwide on July 3.

Who would have thought Johnny Depp was such a slave to fashion?

The eccentric actor was spotted browsing the newest wares at renowned tradeshow PROJECT Las Vegas on Wednesday, catching fellow fashion fans by surprise.

“I thought it was odd he was there,” eyewitness Michele Bedrick with Silver Jeans Co. told Celebuzz exclusively. “He definitely seemed out of place. I wasn’t sure quite why he was there or if he had a connection to PROJECT, but I’m sure he could be making personal orders.”

As fans certainly know, Depp has a personal style all his own. In fact, the always off-beat dresser was snapped in Vegas wearing brown high-top sneakers, tucked-in baggy jeans and, of course, his signature rocker rings, beaded bracelets and necklaces. Also on display: a floppy hat and blue-tinted sunglasses.

So how did The Lone Ranger star spend his time at the event?

“He was just wandering and cruising up and down the aisles, popping in and out of the tradeshow booths,” Bedrick said. “He was looking at all the products and asking questions.”

But in true Depp fashion, the shy superstar wasn’t looking to attract any attention.

“He seemed like he was trying to keep himself low-key,” Bedrick said. “There were no crowds around him. He was totally under the radar.”

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is being released this weekend, transforming the classic fairy tale into action-packed adventure. The film follows in the footsteps of such projects as Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which found America’s 14th president battling bloodsuckers — and not the ones in Congress! — and falls in line with a spate of projects, including a long-discussed adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which turns classic literature, or even the stuff of history, into thrill rides for popcorn-munchers around the globe.

When he’s done chasing down Nazi art thieves in this year’s The Monuments Men, George Clooney will next tackle alien life. The star has officially signed on for Disney’s 1952, directed by Brad Bird (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) and written by Prometheus scribe Damon Lindelof. Details are being kept close to the vest, but the plot is rumored to center on Clooney’s character having a Close Encounters-like experience. The 3D release hits theaters on December 19, 2014. Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway, fresh from her Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, has settled on her follow-up to Les Miserables.

Hathaway will headline a modern retelling of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. The film, written by The Iron Lady scribe Abi Morgan, is set in mid-20th Century Italy. A director is expected to sign on soon. [TheWrap]

Disney has also set release dates for several of their tentpole features, so Sharpie them in on your calendars. Johnny Depp will return for Pirates of the Caribbean 5, scheduled for release on July 10, 2015. The Muppets 2, starring Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais, is set for March 21, 2014. Angelina Jolie‘s Maleficent, which tells the story of Sleeping Beauty‘s infamous villain, has moved from March 2014 to July 2, 2014. And finally, Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier is due on April 4, 2014, while Guardians of the Galaxy is set for August 1, 2014. Both comic book films will be released in 3D. On Monday, Vin Diesel gave his Facebook fans two big updates on the next Fast & The Furious movie. The star released a new image from Fast Six, as well as announcing that the film’s first trailer will air during the Super Bowl. That means we’ll be getting our first look of the film a scant three months before its May 24th release. [Facebook]

Just in time for its 20th anniversary, Steven Spielberg‘s Oscar-winning Holocaust drama, Schindler’s List, is finally coming to Blu-ray. The film arrives in HD on March 5, 2013, with a newly-remastered transfer. The disc will include extra features such as the “Voices from the List” documentary and “The USC Shoah Foundation Story with Steven Spielberg” featurette. [The Digital Bits]

MGM has decided to spend some of their Skyfall and Hobbit money on a new remake of Ben-Hur. The new film, written by Keith Burke, will differ largely from the 1952 classic starring Charlton Heston, as its story tells Ben-Hur’s story parallel to the story of Jesus Christ. Jennifer Lawrence, Ben Affleck and Anne Hathaway took home Golden Globes this past Sunday, paving the way for Oscar gold. Hathaway and Lawrence, both frontrunners for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress, respectively, look like the ones to beat come Academy Awards time. Hold on to your butts: There’s another Jurassic Park on the way.

Universal Pictures announced via press release that the fourth installment of the hit dinosaur franchise will arrive in theaters June 13, 2014. Steven Spielberg, who helmed the first two films in the franchise, will serve as executive producer. The film, written by Rise of the Planet of the Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, is expected to find a director soon.

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are launching a new production company. Important Studios will allow the duo to “approve television, movie and theater projects, including a big-screen version of The Book of Mormon.” Stone says he hopes DreamWorks or Lucasfilm will serve as a model, but then explained, “In some ways it’s a stupid comparison because they are gargantuan.  We want to be a smaller, more humble version of that.” [The New York Times]

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is still a thing that’s happening, and Disney has hired a new writer to make it happen. Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, Rush Hour 3) will pen the return of Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack, although the actor has yet to officially sign-on for the sequel. But don’t worry, he will. Unless he’s developed an allergy to all the money this franchise makes. [Variety]

Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the directing duo behind Crazy, Stupid, Love, have signed-on to write and direct the film based on the Wired Magazine article “John McAfee’s Last Stand.” The film centers on McAfee’s crazy turn from software engineer to suspected murderer and fugitive hiding out in Belize. The project, set up at Warner Bros., has yet to lock down a release date. [Variety]

Good news for Die Hard fans: The next installment in the oh-my-god-it’s-still-going franchise will be Rated “R.” Collider.com confirmed the report this past Friday, as did a new TV spot for A Good Day to Die Hard. Bruce Willis reprises his role as John McClane, and this time the New York cop is in Russia, struggling to save his son from some very bad guys. Watch the new TV spot below.

Even some of the industry’s most beloved golden girls turned bridal. Natalie Portman tied the knot with her Benjamin Millepied in a traditional Jewish ceremony in Big Sur, Calif., where Anne Hathaway also walked down the aisle at sunset to wed Adam Shulman.

Drew Barrymore vowed for forever with Will Kopleman at her Montecito, Calif. estate, while Carey Mulligan took the plunge with Mumford & Sons musician Marcus Mumford in the countryside of Somerset, England.

But wedded bliss didn’t bless everyone, with many longtime lovers calling it quits in 2012. After almost seven years of marriage, Heidi Klum and Seal announced their separation in January before officially filing for divorce three months later.

Parting ways after five wedded years, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes — long labeled Tomkat — reached a surprisingly speedy divorce settlement after just 11 days in July, with the actress receiving primary custody of the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Suri.

But not all of Hollywood’s bitter breakups stuck. The Silver Linings Playbook and Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln lead the SAG Award Nominations, which were announced Wednesday in Los Angeles. Each film garnered 4 nominations each, including Best Ensemble. Playbook’s Jennifer Lawrence was nominated for Best Actress, and Daniel Day-Lewis snagged a Best Actor nom. Wally Pfister, the guy who shot Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, has enlisted Johnny Depp to star in his top-secret directorial debut, Transcendence. Plot details have been kept insanely close to the vest on the project, until now…

In a recent interview, Transcendence producer Andrew Kosove revealed that the story “involves a scientist (Depp) whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself.” Nanotechnology and artificial intelligence is also involved. Kosove also provided an update on the film’s casting: Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) is no longer in the running for the film’s lead female role, and Ewan McGregor passed on an early draft of the script. Fans of Community’s Gillian Jacobs are about to get their fix of the TV star on the big screen. The actress has signed on to join The Hunger Games’ Elizabeth Banks in the comedy Walk of Shame. The film, written and directed by Steve Brill, centers on a local news anchor (Banks) who, after a drunk one-night stand, wakes up broke and without her I.D. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is getting a sequel?! Tinker, Tailor is getting a sequel. Producer Eric Fellner, while doing press rounds for his current film Les Miserables, revealed that director Tomas Alfredson and writer Peter Straughan are actively working on the screenplay for Smiley’s People, which once again centers on Gary Oldman’s retired spy, Smiley. Zero Dark Thirty’s Joel Edgerton is trading in assault rifles for six shooters for a role opposite Natalie Portman in the Western Jane Got a Gun. The film centers on Jane (Portman), a wife who must defend her homestead when her bad guy of a husband (Edgerton) goes on the run from his former gang of outlaws. Jane also stars Michael Fassbender as a gunslinger Jane hires to help her out. Production is set to start in February. [Deadline]

The 19th Annual SAG Awards will air live from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 8 PM ET.

A new trailer for Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger has been released — and this one gives viewers some insight into the friendship between Johnny Depp’s Tonto and Armie Hammer‘s masked ranger.

Depp has played everything from dirty pirates and clueless vampires to eccentric chocolatiers and mad hatters, but in Lone Ranger he’ll step into the iconic role of Tonto, the Native American companion to Hammer’s ex-Texas Ranger. As the trailer explains, it’s Tonto who encourages the ranger to fight for justice.

“There come a time when good men must wear mask,” Depp, as Tonto, says. 

Based on the popular radio show-turned-television program from the 1950s, Lone Ranger follows the dynamic duo as they fight for justice in the Old West.

“What was exciting for me was to play the classic character of Tonto,” Depp said during an interview at CinemaCon 2012. “To take that shape, let’s say, and mess around with it… It is a very rock ‘n’ roll  version of The Lone Ranger. It’s very fast-paced. It’s high-velocity, and it’s also quite funny.”

The film is set to hit theaters on July 3, 2013. Lone Ranger also stars Depp’s frequent on-screen partner Helena Bonham Carter as Red.
