After taking her gams out for a spin at Williams-Sonoma Friday night, and showing off the “butt of a 22-year-old stripper” the day before, Gwyneth Paltrow rounded out the week by throwing her son, Moses a 7th birthday party in LA.

A cast of thousands gathered in Paltrow and Chris Martin‘s backyard on Saturday, including Gwen Stefani, dreamboat Gavin Rossdale, Tobey Maguire, Jennifer Meyer, Ruby Maguire, Otis Maguire, Jon Favreau, Joel Madden, Harlow Madden, Cameron Diaz, Maria Shriver, Christopher Schwarzenegger and Katherine Schwarzenegger.

Nicole Richie, meanwhile, has been on holiday down in St. Barts with Jessica Alba.

Paltrow dressed down in a white tank and gauzy, cream pants for the occasion, and still managed to look 15 years younger than her actual age.

Robert Downey, Jr. recently dropped some hints as to what audiences can expect from Iron Man 3. Apparently, the film’s best bit of acting comes not from its star, but rather from former Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau, who plays Tony Stark’s executive bodyguard, Happy Hogan. “Happy has an amazing arc in this movie,” Downey said. “In fact, probably the best two bits of acting in the movie, so far from what I can tell…which sucks because I’m in every frame, are Favreau as Happy Hogan…I can’t give away much, but it’s ridiculous.” Iron Man 3, directed by Shane Black, hits theaters May 3, 2013. In more threequel news, director Todd Phillips teased story details on The Hangover Part III. “[The movie] is Alan’s story,” Phillips said of Zach Galifianakis’ character. ”He’s going through a crisis after the death of his father, [and] the Wolfpack is all he has.” The director also revealed that, while the Wolfpack will indeed return to Las Vegas this trip, it’s “just one of their stops” in the sequel. The film opens May 24, 2013. [EW]

We’ve known for some time that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt was not returning to helm the sequel (Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves has stepped in). Now it looks like Rise’s leading man, James Franco, may also sit out Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. “I was going to be a small part of the next movie,” Franco said in a recent interview. “There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct. But there was one scene, between Caesar and my character, maybe even just like on a video that was left behind, but then a lot of things happened… Now Rupert’s not a part of it so I don’t know. My guess is I won’t be in it. Nobody’s talked to me since Rupert left.” We’ll find out if we have a Franco-less Dawn (new band name, calling it!) when the film hits theaters May 23, 2014. [MTV]

What would happen if the entire world were to lose power? NBC’s new post-apocalyptic drama, Revolution, tackles that very question.

Taking place 15 years after a blackout, which knocked out everything from planes to iPhones, the story centers on Charlie Matheson (Tracy Spiridakos) as she enlists her uncle Miles (Billy Burke, Twilight’s Charlie Swan) to help find her brother after her Dad is killed by the militia which governs the now defunct country. Along the way to Chicago to find her uncle, Charlie meets Nate (JD Pardo) who isn’t who he says he is.

Why was her dad murdered? Flashbacks show us Charlie’s dad, Ben (Tim Guinee), might have had some insight as to why the lights went out, as he was downloading files to a flash drive and telling his wife to get water moments before the world went dark.

So what’s the lowdown on Revolution?

Who’s who: Besides Spiridakos and Burke, Revolution also stars Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) as Captain Neville of the militia. Maggie (Anna Lise Phillips) and Aaron (Zak Orth) join Charlie on her adventure to follow her father’s request. Elizabeth Mitchell of Lost plays Rachel Matheson, Charlie’s deceased mother who will appear in flashbacks. Maria Howell plays Grace who appears to know more about the blackout than we think.

Buzz: J.J. Abrams (Lost, Felicity, Fringe). Jon Favreau (Iron Man). Erik Kripke (Supernatural). Revolution’s buzz has to do with its creators. With these three well-known storytellers at the helm, how could you not at least give the show a chance? Favreau also directed the pilot giving it a movie-like quality.

Workin’ it: We were left wanting more as the credits rolled in this pilot, which is always a plus with big concept shows. Just enough plot to keep us intrigued (Did Charlie’s father really know why the power shut off?!?!) and even a couple of twists at the end of the hour; it was enjoyable to watch. Burke was incredible in his role and the brightest part of the pilot. The fight scenes were also fantastically shot.

Not so much: There was some great acting within this first hour of Revolution, but we’d like to care more about the characters in this family. Though we’ll say we do love the focus of a family within the grander mystery of the why and how of the blackout. We’re sure subsequent episodes will provide us with some much-needed backstory. Some of the dramatic scenes took a turn for the hokey as well.

Celebuzz meter (1-10): 8. There’s great people behind and on this show, which makes us think it will/can fill the gigantic shoes it’s trying to step into. However, we’ve seen one too many mystery shows, which have taken on grand concepts and failed. That leaves us a little wary and not wanting to get attached. (We miss you Flash Forward!). Here’s hoping Revolution can take the groove from the pilot and keep us wanting more while satisfying us with some answers along the way.

Sure, he may not be Robert Pattinson, but is Jon Favreau really that bad?

Irina Krupnik, a Soviet-born makeup artist and former model, is suing the makers of the 2009 film Couples Retreat after a picture of her in a bikini was used as masturbation material for Favreau’s character in a scene from the movie.

Krupnik had signed a general release for the photo when the bikini shots were taken nearly a decade ago, but apparently never through that a photograph of an attractive young woman in a bikini would be used as an “object for masturbation.” Does this woman think that the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue is published to sell swimsuits?

Krupnik’s lawyers are seeking $10 million in damages not just because Krupnik was embarrassed about unwittingly being spank material, but because apparently she thinks actor-director Favreau is a hideous, fat old monster who would never be involved with a pretty woman. (Never mind that he is married to a pretty woman.) The suit describes Favreau as “playing a character at least twice the age of Ms. Krupnik in the photo,” being “overweight” and having a “prominent belly” and, oh yeah, “desiccated.” We guess if Favreau’s character had been played by Brad Pitt, Krupnik would have bought DVDs for her family and friends. Can’t stocky guys catch a break?

Celebuzz caught up with director Jon Favreau at last night’s I Love You, Man premiere, which is perhaps about the only thing the Iron Man director has time for lately.

The flick, starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, centers around a guy who can’t seem to find the perfect male friend.

What does Favreau do on his man dates? Apparently filmmaking.

“I don’t have much time; I used to like to play poker, but now, between the kids and the movies…it tends to fill my schedule,” Favreau says.

But lucky for his crew and costars, he only populates his flicks with pals.

“That’s my time to really bond with my friends, is at work…I’m lucky to work with people I really like,” he said of the likes of star Robert Downey Jr.

And they seem to like him as well. Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts in the Iron Man franchise, recently included Favreau in her weekly newsletter GOOP. She quizzed the director on his five favorite picks for DVD rentals.

Reese Witherspoon, 32, dazzled in a blue strapless dress Thursday night at the Hollywood premiere of her romantic comedy Four Christmases, out in theaters next Wednesday.

The event, held at the Hollywood Boulevard Mann’s Chinese Theater, was also attended by Four Christmases co-stars Katy Mixon, Sissy Spacek, Kristin Chenoweth, Mary Steenburgen (who brought along hubby Ted Danson as her date) and Jon Favreau.

New mom Minnie Driver also made an appearance, wearing a white lace-lined dress with see-through sleeves.

Noticeably absent was the male lead in the film, Vince Vaughn.

While initial reports had Reese Witherspoon seeming at odds with the much-taller Vaughn, 38, last night she told USA Today he was the “funniest co-star she’s ever had.”

Vince was said to be in Bora Bora working on another film.

Next up for Reese is the animated 3-D feature Monsters Vs. Aliens, which is set to be released in March 2009.

Blockbuster action director Michael Bay‘s really expensive toy commercial Transformers was the big winner at the MTV Movie Awards last night, taking Best Movie over crowd-pleasers Juno and Superbad. Gee, can you tell the general public votes online for the winners, and most of them just got their first computers?

But the real action occurred earlier that day.

The show was business as usual last night at Universal Studios’ Gibson Amphitheater, despite a horrific fire on Sunday morning that destroyed portions of the Universal Studios backlot. King Kong, the Back to the Future clock tower, the New York City set and Universal’s film vault were all either destroyed or damaged in the blaze. The amphitheater is located merely a hundred yards uphill from the fire’s location.

Despite plans to open them later than usual, Universal’s theme park and CityWalk were both shuttered for the day, and a smoky haze lingered in the air.

Some celebrities were able to work the fire to their advantage and actually crack funny at the podium. The Office star Rainn Wilson joked that he set the fires to strike for the wrath of God on Hollywood.

“I meant to destroy the amphitheater,” he cracked. “I made a mistake on MapQuest.”

But the evening’s biggest star appeared to be Johnny Depp. Depp took home two awards (Best Comedic Performance for his iconic Jack Sparrow character and Best Villain for Sweeney Todd) to thunderous applause and a standing ovation when he first took the stage. Hipster Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody could be seen clutching her hand to her heart, which is how the rest of the world seems to feel about the eccentric heartthrob.

Depp was his customarily soft-spoken self when accepting. “I’m not really sure how this happened because you can ask anybody—I’m not a very funny person,” he said when accepting his first award.

“Two times in one night—that’s nutty. Wow…I have to thank all of you who voted for me. That’s really a great honor, thanks for sticking with me on this very obtuse and strange road…I’m not particularly eloquent at the moment, but thank you so much,” he said when accepting the Best Villain trophy.

Depp missed out on making a clean sweep of the male category, as he was trumped by Will Smith‘s win for Best Male Performance for I Am Legend.

“I’ve dedicated my life to creating and trying to do things that are different,” Smith said, only sounding a tiny bit like he might actually have joined the Church of Scientology. “I’ve dedicated my life to making everything that I touch better…This film was hard, and I was on camera for an hour by myself, and y’all still went to see it. Thank you very much.”

Best Female Performance went to teen pregnancy role model Ellen Page, for indie breakout film of last year Juno. Page seemed a little out of place when she walked the gold carpet before the ceremony began.

“It’s a lot,” she says. “The fans and the Pussycat Dolls just walked by. I embrace it all,” she told E! News.

The awards ceremony has long been the venue for which celebrities make appearances to promote their upcoming summer movies. Stars with films on the horizon who were in attendance and presenting awards included Will Smith and Charlize Theron (Hancock); Tom Cruise, Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. (Tropic Thunder); Will Ferrell (Step Brothers); Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Get Smart); Edward Norton and Liv Tyler (Incredible Hulk); and Seth Rogen and James Franco (Pineapple Express). Host Mike Myers also made a joke about promoting his own summer movie offering, The Love Guru.

He also appeared to be stumping for another Wayne’s World movie, as he lamely trotted out Dana Carvey for a Wayne’s World bit.

The only actors who made an appearance without a movie to promote appeared to be Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Hudson. Sex and the City is already raking it in at the box office.

Sarah Jessica, who appears to be everywhere these days, wouldn’t confirm that there is a sequel in the works.

“Honestly,” she said backstage, “Michael Patrick King and I have not even talked about the idea.”

Tom Cruise presented funnyman Adam Sandler with the Generation Award, honoring his contribution to penis humor and silly voices in cinema for the past two decades.

“He liberated us form the presumption that it was not cool to punch old people…and he taught us how to celebrate Hanukkah by drinking gin-and-tonicas,” Tom Cruise said in his presentation. Sandler accepted his award by performing his own version of Carly Simon‘s “Nobody Does It Better” and then speaking.

“Thanks, guys, that was fun—the most arrogant thing I’ve ever done,” the funnyman. “I appreciate everything over the years…Thanks to you guys for always being so cool to me.”

The show was mostly low-key and without comedic highpoints like Sarah Silverman‘s ridicule of Paris Hilton last year. The only actually humorous on purpose moment was the  short film of Ben Stiller, Robert Downey and Jack Black making a viral video to promote Tropic Thunder, in which Downey Jr. tortures Black’s testicles. Haven’t we all wanted to kick Jack Black in the nuts?

The only possibly controversial moment occurred when Seth Rogen and James Franco produced what looked like a bag of marijuana and began smoking a joint from it while presenting an award to Downey. Their upcoming movie The Pineapple Express has them toking vast amounts of weed.

In what they later claimed was an MTV-sanctioned bit, the actors jokingly claimed to the audience the marijuana was fake and not “really good shit.” MTV suits must have changed their minds at the last moment because cameras panned away pretty darned quickly, as the audience tittered nervously. They were presenting Downey and director-actor Jon Favreau with the award for Best Summer Movie So Far for Iron Man.

“Thanks, fellas, for the intoxicating introduction,” Downey said.
