Watch the Teaser Trailer For Whitney Houston’s Final Film ‘Sparkle’ (VIDEO)

Whitney Houston might no longer be with us, but we’re now getting a deeper look into her last project.

On The Today Show Monday morning, a teaser trailer for Sparkle was released, and the “I Will Always Love You” singer is showing off her acting chops for the first time in 16 years. The last film Whitney acted in was The Preacher’s Wife in 1996, where she shared the screen with Denzel Washington.

Though Whitney had some very public struggles in her last few years, as expected, the diva is shown singing in the trailer, and it appears as though she still had it.

The film also stars American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, and is expected to mirror a bit of Whitney’s own life, with a plot as follows:

“Three sisters form a successful singing group and must deal with the fallout of fame and drugs.”

It’s expected to hit theaters on August 17, just a little over a week after what would have been Whitney’s 49th birthday on August 9.

Who Should Play Whitney Houston? Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson & Jordin Sparks Reportedly In Talks (POLL)

The legendary Whitney Houston may be laid to rest, but her legacy lives on.

As reported by the London Daily Mail, a biopic chronicling the “I Will Always Love You” singer is in the works by her longtime mentor Clive Davis. Houston’s impact on music and film dates back to her work in The Body Guard and The Preacher’s Wife –so a project of this magnitude was inevitable.

The important question here is: Who should take on the role of Whitney? Here’s what we’ve heard…

Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson – who won an Oscar for her moving performance in Dreamgirls – and Jordin Sparks are a few names that have been thrown into the ring. Take our poll above, and let us know in the comments who you would cast in the role.

While the “We Found Love” singer has no acting experience to date, Rihanna will be releasing her first acting project and board game-inspired flick Battleship this summer. She will be donning camouflage to play a weapons officer alongside True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard and model Brooklyn Decker.

American Idol alum Sparks isn’t new to the acting scene, as she’s appeared on Broadway’s “In the Heights” and in the upcoming Sparkle remake alongside Whitney herself. The film is expected to be released this August.

Another name that has been tossed around to play Whitney is Kill Bill and Independence Day actress Vivica A. Fox, 47. She has been nominated for countless acting honors and nabbed a few accolades -including the 1997 MTV Movie Awards’ ‘Best Kiss’ with Will Smith in Independence Day.

Whitney Houston Talks ‘Sparkle’ in One of Her Final Interviews (VIDEO)

Before her untimely death this Saturday, Whitney Houston was hard at work on her new film, Sparkle. Houston was attached to the project since 2001 and made the mutual decision with producers to halt production when their choice lead actress, R&B star Aaliyah, had passed away. Whitney returned to the project soon after American Idol winner Jordin Sparks was casted.

In one of her final interviews, Whitney sat down to dish on the upcoming 1976 remake of the same name.

“God has his own time,” Whitney explained to The Insider about the project’s lengthy hiatus.

“[Jordin's] just really, just perfect,” Whitney raved about her co-star. “She’s truly, truly embraced the role and doing such a marvelous job and just putting herself into it and just her voice is gorgeous.”

Soon after Whitney’s death, a spokesperson for Sony said in a statement to CNN that the film will be released in August 2012. The rep added, “Like all those who knew and loved her, we are shocked and saddened and the world has lost an incomparable talent. Right now our thoughts are with her daughter, her family and her friends.”

The film also stars as House actor Omar Epps. Houston will appear in the film as Spark’s mother.

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks made a quick change at last night’s American Country Awards, making a seamless transition from a strapless white dress to a sparkly gown — but it was the sparkler on her ring finger that raised a few eyebrows.

Some onlookers wondered if the shiny thing on her wedding-band hand held a special meaning, so Celebuzz got to the bottom of the speculation.

“You mean the horseshoe ring? I can 100-percent confirm that she is not [engaged],” her rep says.

Jordin Sparks looked stunning as she helped kick off the Winter in Venice at The Venetian and The Palazzo in Las Vegas on Monday night. The American Idol winner dazzled in a black body-hugging Fluxus dress paired with nude Christian Louboutins and sparkling Simon G Jewelry.

While in Vegas, she entertained the massive crowd with a free performance that included her hits “Tattoo” and “No Air” and the holiday classics “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “The Christmas Song.”

When asked by the crowd about her holiday health tips, Jordin joked, “I am the worst person to ask. I eat the food, I sleep on the couch, I watch football, have a good time with my family and worry about it later. Just enjoy the holidays.”

After the event, Jordin expressed her excitement, telling her Twitter followers:

Jason Derulo was ridin’ solo as he rolled up in a Rolls Royce at his Future History album release party on Tuesday at the Darby Downstairs. The 22-year-old singer, who is dating American Idol singer Jordin Sparks, remained to himself — glued to his cell phone, texting all night, an onlooker tells Celebuzz. Was he missing Jordin? Perhaps!

Throughout the night, he sipped on Stoli vodka, occasionally interacting with fans who came over to chat with him and snap a pic. He seemed to perk up once he was presented with birthday cupcakes and handed the mic. “Today is a very special day because my greatest accomplishment, Future History, is in stores now… Now let’s get fuc*ed up!” he said, raising his glass of Ace of Spades champagne.

The new couple were spotted together during a dinner date at Philippe Chow in West Hollywood on Sunday night. The “Don’t Wanna Go Home” singer’s rep told Us Weekly that the pair have been seeing each other since August, when they performed together in the Bahamas.

Last month, Celebuzz caught up with Jason at his rooftop Future History listening party in NYC, where he dished about his ideal girl.

“Hopefully, I find that girl. I wrote the song based on me finding that girl and pictured what it’d be like. That song is how I want to feel, but I haven’t felt that way yet for a girl.”

At the time, he added what a woman could do to win him over, saying: “She can be polite. She has to laugh with me because I tend to be kind of crazy. She has to have fun with me.”

Jordin Sparks Shows Off New Tattoo on Ribcage (PHOTO)

Jordin Sparks showed off her super svelte body when she debuted her new tattoo this weekend via her WhoSay page. The American Idol alum posted a pic of her new tat on her ribcage with a caption that read:

“New tat on my rib cage…’Respira’. I love it.”

It is true – diamonds are a girl’s best friend! Jordin Sparks sparkled while posing with a handful of beautiful diamonds at ForeverMark’s Pop-Up Boutique & Masterclass event at Milk Gallery in New York City on Tuesday (July 26).

Wearing a tangerine colored dress and flashing her pearly whites, the American Idol winner was covered in diamonds as she attended the event. Other celebrities like Lea Michele, Gwyneth Paltrow and Elizabeth Banks all designed ForeverMark pieces, which will be available in the United States this fall.

The only thing blue about the newly single Hills star on Wednesday night was her hair. The fashionista stepped out with blue tips to compliment her blonde locks at the HTC Status Social, pairing her semi-wild locks with a simple minidress.

Jordin Sparks Reveals Weight-Loss Secrets

After showing off her new bikini-ready body, Jordin Sparks is telling all about how she lost the weight!

The American Idol champ went from a size 14 down to a size 8 — allegedly dropping about 30 pounds after she started working out with a personal trainer while on tour with the Jonas Brothers. The 21-year-old singer tells People about her new diet and exercise routine that got her there.

How did she do it?

Aside from the trainer, she’s also gotten into Zumba classes. Zumba combines Latin and International music for a high energy workout. Jordin also changed her eating habits by watching her portions and staying on track with her diet. “I was determined,” she says.

It took her awhile to find something she could stick with. Going vegetarian didn’t work, she says. “I smelled a steak and was, like, ‘I can’t do this!’” She also tried more drastic methods like the Master Cleanse. “I lasted a day,” she confesses.

Although she’s getting a lot of attention for her new figure, she doesn’t want to take it too far. “I definitely didn’t want to lose my curves,” Jordin says.

With the weight off, her confidence is up! “I’ve always felt cute, but now I feel sexier,” she says. See more in the new issue of People magazine, out this week.

A super svelte Jordin Sparks went for a daring ‘do at Thursday night’s The Hangover Part II premiere, and we’re loving it!

The singer stepped out in a form fitting dress and nude heels but it was her hair that did the talking. Her long, straight, dark locks were accented with purple streaks! Jordin also had another cute accessory on her arm!

She showed up with former Dancing with the Stars celeb Romeo! Jordin tweeted while at the event, writing:

“At The Hangover 2 premiere with @romeomiller! @blakgriffinin front of me! Lol movies starting…shhhhh!”

According to her Twitter, it looks like the American Idol alum is back on the road after a night on the town. She wrote on Friday, May 20:

“Goodbye apartment in LA, you’ve been so good to me! Back to living in a suitcase!”

It’s hard to upstage stars like Bradley Cooper and Robert Downey Jr. but Crystal the monkey managed to do just that when she walked the red carpet at the Hangover Part II premiere in Los Angeles on May 12.

Sauntering in front of photographers in a pink silk dress with matching pantaloons, Crystal hammed it up for the cameras and even delivered a few smooches to the lovely Kristen Bell. Wearing a colorful two-piece bikini, the former American Idol winner showed off her svelte figure. She seemed ecstatic to show off her curves, uploading the photo on Twitter with the caption:

“I don’t know why but my bathing suit reminds me of fruity pebbles… Werk what we got!”

The 21-year-old singer reportedly lost 30 pounds after she started working out with a personal trainer while on tour with the Jonas Brothers.

“Any time I find time — or I’m not sleeping — he’s like, ‘Let’s work out, let’s do something.’ I’m like, ‘no,’ but he gets my butt up and I’ve got to do it,” Jordin told Hollywood Life.

“It’s fun to do that.. He shocks the body so you’re running, you’re doing throwdowns, you’re doing stairs, you’re doing lunges.”
