Rupert Murdoch‘s British newspaper company has obliged to pay Jude $200,00 for his phone being hacked between 2003 and 2006 where 16 articles were published about the Sherlock Holmes actor in the News of the World tabloid. Law said in a statement regarding his violation of privacy (via AP): 

“I changed my phones, I had my house swept for bugs but still the information kept being published.”

Jude added about the hacking, “For me, this case was never about money. It was about standing up for myself and finding out what had happened. I owed it to my friends and family as well as myself to do this.”

Other celebs who have been victims of phone hacking (though not necessarily connected to News of the World) have been Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively and Mila Kunis. Scarlett and Blake have both spoken out after alleged nude pics were posted of them. 

ScarJo opened up about her hacked nude pics to Vanity Fair, saying, “I know my best angles. They were sent to my [then] husband [Ryan Reynolds] … There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not like I was shooting a porno … Although there’s nothing wrong with that either.”

With a career that spans over two decades, Jude first started out doing UK TV movies before making his mark over in the states with the sci-fi thriller Gattaca in 1997. Often times his work was overlooked by his messy off screen love triangles: Jude-Sienna Miller-Sadie Frost and Jude-Sienna Miller-The Nanny, but that didn’t stop People from dubbing him 2004′s “Sexiest Man Alive” (he was the first English winner!).

This weekend Jude is back in his second flick of the holiday season—Hugo was his first—as Dr. John Watson in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. To celebrate the release of the highly anticipated sequel, Celebuzz has gathered up some more obscure facts about Mr. Law.

Per IMDB, A Game of Shadows revolves around Law’s Dr. Watson and Robert Downey Jr.‘s Holmes who ”join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.” Sounds like fun!

As for Noomi, she wore a more, well, interesting outfit – a full-length tube dress that was a mix of giant polka dots and vertical black-and-white stripes. We’re not sure how much we love it, but based on her smile, we’re happy she’s happy.

The scruff is a far cry from the clean-shaven look that he had earlier this year when he cooled off in Cannes. Jude and two pals dove in and splashed around in the water at the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc in Antibes. Donning bright yellow swim trunks, Jude struck some unknowing poses as he lounged along the French Riviera.

The film stars Kick Ass cutie Chloe Moretz, Jude Law, Sacha Baron Cohen — and Nanny McPhee Returns star Asa Butterfield as Hugo. The film is an adaptation of Brian Selznick’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret. The book itself relies heavily on illustrations — making it a perfect choice for the big screen.

What’s it all about?

The film is set in 1930′s Paris and focuses on an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station. If that’s not weird enough, there’s his eccentric friend, a mystery surrounding his late father, an ill-tempered toy shop owner and a wind up doll that can draw pictures.

]]> Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon and Jude Law all starred in the 1999 thriller, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and the award-winning trio have reunited for what could possibly be one of the most realistically terrifying films in quite some time.

In the just-released trailer for Contagion, an all-star cast tries to fight off a virus that is killing the population faster than they can figure out what it even is.

So, who are some of the other big names in the thriller?

Academy-award winners such as Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard as well as The Matrix star Laurence Fishburne all have roles in the film.

Hypochondriacs — you might want to prepare yourselves before watching! Check out the trailer (if you dare) above!

Celebrity photographer Terry Richardson gave readers a peek into the lives of the rich and beautiful when he posted a collection of photos from Kate and Jamie’s wedding reception on his personal Tumblr. The pics show Kate, Jamie, Jude Law, Kelly Osbourne, Paul McCartney and many more stars living it up as Kate and Jamie celebrated their love.

Kate and Jamie were married in England on Friday, July 1. Kate wore a gown by friend John Galliano and Manolo Blahnik shoes. Galliano was not at the reception (he is currently on trial in France for allegedly using anti-Semitic remarks) but Blahnik as well as designers Marc Jacobs and Stefano Pilati brought the fashion to Kate’s big day.

Jude has kept a low profile on the dating scene since splitting with on-off girlfriend Sienna Miller back in early February.

The group was out in full force at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday morning as a show of solidarity, as they are part of De Niro’s 9-member jury who will be laying down the verdict on the winners from this year’s film festival.
Thurman looked gorgeous and glamorous in a white sleeved dress, while Law kept his chic reputation intact thanks to a suit. De Niro went casual — untucked shirt, jeans — but hey, he’s Robert freaking De Niro. He can wear whatever he pleases.

The Cannes Film Festival is kicking off this week and will be underway for the next few weeks in southern France. Expect to see all of Hollywood’s A-list there premiering their new movies and also just mingling with their fellow stars — and stay tuned to Celebuzz for all of the biggest event coverage from Cannes!

The Holiday actor stepped out in a pair of fitted jeans, a black jacket that was covering up a gray T-shirt and a pair of fashionable shades. The British hottie even stopped to sign autographs before making his way out of the airport.

Uma Thurman! This won’t be the first time Uma and Jude have worked together. The two starred in the 1997 film Gattaca. Other sexy celebs to keep an eye out for at Cannes is Brad Pitt, whose film Tree of Life is premiering there, and Johnny Depp, who is there for his movie Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

As for the ladies, Brad’s gal Angelina Jolie is scheduled to attend in support of her film Kung Fu Panda 2, while Salma Hayek is premiering Puss in Boots. Also, the rumored newly engaged Rachel McAdams is expected to attend the screening for her Woody Allen movie Midnight in Paris. 

Also on the miss list are the hotties that come out with it. Whether frolicking on the beach or jogging down the street, there’s just something about our favorite celebrity men cavorting around half undressed that makes us smile. We hope it conjures the same feelings within you.

A rep for Law tells People magazine that the Alfie co-stars and on-again, off-again couple have once again severed their romantic ties:

“I can confirm that Jude Law and Sienna Miller are no longer in a relationship.”

So what happened? According to a friend of Law’s, who says that the split occurred several weeks ago, their relationship just ran out of steam:

“It was an entirely and end-of-the relationship decision. It had run its course.”

Law and Miller initially began seeing each other in late 2003, becoming engaged on Christmas 2004, but split up in 2006. The pair had reignited their relationship in 2009.

Ryan Seacrest and his friend, CNN host Larry King took it upon themselves to cover Gaga’s “Poker Face” on the American Idol host’s radio show this week… and while they get points for their effort, the vocals weren’t exactly pretty. It got us thinking about some of the other celebrity “Poker Face” covers out there, some better and (believe it or not,) some worse than Seacrest and King’s.

First, Seacrest and King’s duet effort. “This isn’t the one Gershwin wrote, right?” King asks before they get started. Broadcasting giants they may be, but neither Seacrest nor King are singers.

By contrast, Chris Daughtry gave the Gaga hit a pleasing-to-the-ears grungy acoustic spin on German radio:

Actress Sadie Frost—who was married to the the Alfie star from 1997 to October 2003—won’t be releasing her book until next month, but already the damning allegations are coming out, including Frost’s claim that she felt so alone following the birth of the couple’s son Rafferty that she slipped into a post-natal depression (PND) that led to her slashing her own arm with a pair of scissors.

British newspaper the Daily Mail (via PopEater) has published an excerpt from Crazy Days, in which Frost recounts how Law chose to refocus his attention on his film career following Rafferty’s birth, while she sat home alone, left to deal with a spiraling depression:

“Eventually I wanted to press the self-destruct button. One night I arranged a babysitter and went out. I partied all night and got home the next day racked with guilt. I was sitting at my dressing table, not feeling anything—just numb. I watched my hand slowly pick up a pair of scissors. It was as if I was being sucked down lower into the chair and the scissors seemed to be drawn to my arm,” she writes. “I appeared to have cut myself. Blood dripped down my arm. There was no sense of panic within me—I just felt empty.”

Frost eventually sought treatment for her condition, and she and Law married in September 1997, but the 2000 birth of the couple’s second child, Iris Tallulah, triggered a relapse into depression. And Frost claims that Law wasn’t much help this time either:

“Jude tried to understand, but the more we had to socialize at grand dinner parties in Hollywood, the more I felt my self-esteem slipping away. Soon I admitted defeat and went to see a doctor, who diagnosed PND and put me back on medication. The more I worried about my condition, the more self-obsessed I became and the less attention I gave to Jude. Back in London, we were busy with the children and our careers. Jude was up for lots more roles and I was still feeling low, struggling to hold the relationship together, feeling threatened.”

The couple, who went on to have a third child, eventually divorced in 2003, with Frost blaming Law for her depression, according to divorce papers. The actor is currently dating on-again, off-again girlfriend Sienna Miller; the two were spotted vacationing in Ibiza earlier this month.
