Nerd Prom, also known as the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, was more like a glamorous film festival or awards show last night, judging from some of the gorgeous gowns found on the red carpet.

From Kate Mara’s white hot long sleeved Prada number to Jessica Pare’s black-and-blue creation from Antonio Berardi, Hollywood’s finest ladies hit all the right fashion notes at the Washington Hilton.

Nicole Kidman looked like she was ready for a party at Jay Gatsby’s mansion, thanks to a light purple Emilio Pucci dress.

Kerry Washington was also a hit in a print gown by Wes Gordon.

From a fast food pickup to a perfume launch, the stars have been busy bees in the last 24 hours.

In New York City, Ryan Reynolds had it his way with a meal from Burger King. The dapper actor carried what appeared to be a burger in one hand and a large drink in the other. Could this be the secret to his famous physique?

After a first foray into original programming, the folks at Netflix swung for the fence with House of Cards. And, boy, did they hit it out of the park.

The political thriller, a remake of a BBC series based on Michael Dobbs’ novel, follows a cunning South Carolina Congressman as he schemes his way through Washington, D.C. After being snubbed the once-promised position of Secretary of State, Francis “Frank” Underwood (Kevin Spacey) — with a helping hand from his equally hard-hearted wife Claire (Robin Wright) and a hungry rookie reporter, Zoe (Kate Mara) — plots a masterfully-orchestrated plan to topple the newly-elected president.

Since last Friday, the series’ entire 13-episode first season has been available to Netflix’s 33 million streaming subscribers worldwide. So if the dark, expertly-directed drama is right at your fingertips, what are you waiting for?

Celebuzz has five reasons to tune into Netflix’s already acclaimed House of Cards.

1. Binging can be a good thing. While critics are wary of House of Cards‘ all-at-once release, binge-watching has simply become a part of programming culture. Whether coming late to the party on a still-airing series or running through a retired show, many viewers have stopped slowly savoring shows, instead indulging in multiple episodes — or, dare we say, an entire season — in a single sitting. While it may not leave you time to mull over that cliffhanger, a television bender comes with the instant gratification of a full story in one fell swoop.  So, sit back, relax, and splurge on the show.

2. Spacey is spot-on. The actor is one of the main reasons House of Cards can stand among the most elite TV series. He’s a beloved character actor from acclaimed films such as American Beauty, Seven and The Usual Suspects. Spacey’s just-sinister-enough portrayal of the shrewd, ruthless Majority Whip of the House of Representatives — a Democrat with a Southern snarl — is a large part of what has House of Cards watchers coming back for more.

3. For Fincher’s sake. House of Cards is from David Fincher, the brain behind The Social Network, Fight Club, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Not only did he take the directing reigns for the new drama series, but Fincher even threw his Academy Award-winning weight behind the show by executive producing. And it all pays off — the show is shot and directed as beautifully as his big-screen successes.

4. Rooney Mara’s big sister receives raves. After stealing the spotlight on FX’s American Horror Story, Kate Mara has set tongues wagging as journalist Zoe Barnes, an amateur-but-ballsy reporter at the fictional Washington Herald who will stop at no end to land a scoop. And now that she is earning praise for the part, the actress has her little sister, Rooney Mara, to thank. “I read the script…and fell in love with the role,” she told Elle magazine. So she phoned her sister, who was shooting The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with House of Cards’ director Fincher at the time. “[I] told her how amazing David’s new project was and that I really wanted the part. Two months later, David asked me to play the role,” the actress remembered.

5. The real Washington. Instead of romanticizing inside the powerful city — a la West Wing — House of Cards pulls back the curtain on the Capital City. Sure, some of the manipulations and power plays on The Hill may be amplified up in the name of art, but at least it digs into the too-often-shrouded wheeling and dealing of Washington.

When Kate Mara needed some advice while shooting the Netflix series House of Cards, she didnʼt have to look far.

She simply called little sister, Rooney Mara, who’s worked with House of Cards executive producer David Fincher on two films, The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

“It was challenging [to shoot],” the elder Mara said at the show’s premiere party in New York earlier this week. “Because it was a new experience . . . so if I ever felt crappy about what I was doing or I felt like I wasn’t performing well I would call her and talk to her about it. Sheʼd always make me feel better.”

The series, which takes place in Washington, follows majority whip Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) who will stop at nothing in his quest to become president. Robin Wright plays his equally venal and conniving wife.

Mara, who turns 30 this month, plays political reporter Zoe Barnes.

“I wouldnʼt be a good writer,” she said. “I think too much about what Iʼm writing, it would take me forever and I donʼt follow politics at all!”

One thing the actress does like is Netflix.

“Iʼm obsessed!” she said. “I love it and I think itʼs genius how they make recommendations for you but sometimes it makes me laugh because they put movies on there that I donʼt like and I think, why would you think I would like this movie?ʼ

So has Netflix ever recommend anything starring herself?

“No! That would be kind of fun if they did!”

After the success of 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike, Channing Tatum may have earned a spot for his name at the top of movie marquees, but in 10 Years, his female co-stars are the main attraction.

In the new film, which opens September 14, Ari Graynor, Kate Mara, Lynn Collins, Aubrey Plaza, Rosario Dawson and Tatum’s real-life spouse Jenna Dewan-Tatum play different women from Tatum’s life – past and present – who converge on his high school reunion to reconnect, raise hell, and eventually, reflect on the changes they’ve experienced in the decade since graduating.

Who’s who among the women of 10 Years?

Dawson plays Mary, Tatum’s high school sweetheart Mary, whom he hasn’t seen in a year. She recently appeared in the Kevin James comedy Zookeeper and worked on Tony Scott’s final film Unstoppable.

Dewan-Tatum plays Tatum’s current girlfriend, who joins him for the reunion only to find his plans to propose jeopardized by the return of his ex Mary.

Mara plays Elise, a quiet girl who attracted the attention of Reeves (Oscar Isaac) in high school. Even though he’s a successful musician, he struggles to find the courage to talk to her at the reunion.

Collins plays Anna, the hottest girl in their graduating class. Although she still commands the attention of Marty (Justin Long) and AJ (Max Minghella), the pair soon begin to realize that she may not be worthy of their adulation.

Plaza plays Olivia, new wife of Garrity (Brian Geraghty). She knows nothing of his high school days, when he pretended to be black, and is soon confronted by his past.

And Graynor plays Sam, a former cheerleader turned full-time mom who is now married to the former class clown Cully (Chris Pratt).

According to Us Weekly, the twosome celebrated his birthday together and were seen getting cozy on Saturday in New York’s East Village.

The party was thrown in support of All It Takes, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals to create sustainable and positive change both locally and globally. It was co-founded in 2010 by Shailene Woodley and her mother, Lori Woodley.

The stars were aligned last night at The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo premiere in NYC. The movie’s star, Rooney Mara, 26, stunned as she hit the red carpet in a black cutout dress from Prabal Gurung, paired with black heels.

Style seems to run in the family, as Rooney’s stylish big sister, Kate Mara, 28, also dazzled at the premiere. Kate showed her support in a cleavage-baring coral Christian Dior dress, paired with a gold clutch and pumps.
