On Sunday, the newly single star unleashed a new track “Wide Awake” at the 2012 Billboard Awards. The song appears to be directed at her ex-husband.

Although the lyrics are somewhat vague, many fans interpreted them as the 27-year-old’s farewell to the British comedian. The words read: “I wish I knew then what I know now / Wouldn’t dive in, wouldn’t bow down / Gravity hurts / You made it so sweet ’til I woke up on the concrete.”

The “Teenage Dream” songstress is prepping for her first major motion picture, which provides a glimpse of the star’s pre-life fame.

“Since I was little, my dream has always been to be on stage,” 27-year-old Katy said, in the clip.

Now, the ex-wife of Russell Brand is a global superstar — and is using her fame for a good cause: The Grammy Award winning star is performing for the troops at Fleet Week, starting Tuesday May 22.

Part of Me hits theaters this summer, July 5. In the meantime, Perry released a lyric video for her new single, “Wide Awake” — which you can watch below:

The divorce is highlighted in her new 3-D documentary, Part of Me, out July 5; and as the 27-year-old revealed on ELLEN, the decision to include her personal highs and lows was “important.”

What else did she reveal?

“I think sometimes people think that we’re perfect, and we know we’re not perfect, at all,” she said, on the episode airing Tuesday. “I think it’s important [to] start breaking down the idea that, to achieve your dream, you always have to be perfect, or flawless or live in some kind of fantasy world.

“That’s why I decided to put everything into the film, in the most tasteful way,” she added. “But mostly it’s about how I go there and the ride along the way — which can be bumpy. But, mostly, it was extremely fun.”

Since her marriage ended at the end of 2011, Katy — who has reportedly split from her boyfriend, Ryan Gosling lookalike Robert Ackroyd — has been pretty vocal about what went down — mostly through song, that is. Two of her singles — “Part of Me” and her latest song, “Wide Awake” — have lyrics that appear to be about her one-year marriage to the British funnyman.

Russell himself talked about his split from Katy in a recent interview with Ellen, in which he said, “I love her as a human being.”

“Sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything. I was happy to be married with her,” he added.

What went wrong?

According to Us Weekly, the split was amicable.

“It wasn’t that serious. It’s not a nasty thing and they are still talking, but Katy told him to do his thing,” the source said, adding there are “no hard feelings.”

The two started dating about a month ago.

Following the R&B’s star’s performance on the 2012 Billboard Music Awards that included a bunch of bikes, the BMX star and Pink‘s husband retweeted one of his followers posts that read: “@HeathPinter if any of your guys are riding on Chris Brown performance, please fire them.”

Carey added: ”I’m pretty sure i saw my wife did that same performance, but she was 3 months pregnant and actually sang the song.” He was referring to her performance at the 2010 American Music Awards.

However, there was some confusion as to which performance he was speaking about, leading one pop star’s fan group to lash out at the action sports star.

Many thought Carey was referring to Katy Perry‘s performance, as she put on a trapeze performance reminiscent to Pink’s 2010 Grammy Awards show. Doing a little damage control, he tweeted:

“I love twitter! To clarify i was talkin trash bout CB performance, 2 years ago my wife had the same set and actually sang ‘Raise ur Glass.’”

He continuted: “And the fact that the bmx had no relevancy while he lip synced.”

Looks like Carey got a little backlash due to the misunderstanding as he later wrote:

What’s the deal with Katy’s new tune?

During a recent interview, the singer opened up about putting her personal tunes on Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection. She said:

“Well, there were two songs that I had from Teenage Dream that I couldn’t put on, it was ‘Part of Me’ and ‘Dressing Up.’ And then I knew we were doing the re-release and so I was like, ‘I got to get in the studio,’ because I can’t wait eight months to be able to put out this feeling that I’m feeling right now, ’cause God knows it would take eight months to do another record. I couldn’t do it on the fly, to set up records it takes time.”

Aside from appearing on her latest compilation record, “Wide Awake” will be featured on her new flick, Katy Perry: Part of Me.

On Sunday, the 27-year-old pop star brought along her grandmother Ann as her plus one to the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. Sporting complimentary pastels, the ladies looked ever-so-lovely as they posed for photographers.

The “Part of Me” singer even wrote about her grandma on Twitter, saying:

“My date to tonight’s Billboard Music Awards is hotter than the las vegas weather. SMOKIN’!”

Perry is also set to debut a new tune, “Wide Awake,” at the awards show. Reportedly, the new track is said to be about her broken relationship with ex-husband Russell Brand.

Over the past few weeks we have seen some acting out from the comedian at the sound of the “Teenage Dream” starlet’s name.

Where did it all start?

In Atlantic city earlier this month when he berated a guest at his show for chanting about Katy. Then on Thursday’s Ellen show when he was asked about her he admitted he still loves her — as a person that is.

An expert weighs into exclusively to Celebuzz on what Russell’s recent behavior may mean.

“Divorce is incredibly painful at the end of any relationship, celebrity or not.” Dr. Jenn Berman, host of VH1’s Couple’s Therapy tells Celebuzz.

Russell told talk show host Ellen Degeneres, “I still love her as a human being, but sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything.”

Brand went on to praise Perry, “I was very happy to be married with her, she’s such a beautiful human being and I just have only love and positivity for her.”

“Clearly the wounds for Russell are still pretty fresh, judging from his reactions,” Dr. Berman adds.

Katy has appeared to move on with Florence + The Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd as we saw the new duo canoodling at Coachella just last month.

Adding of their split, Russell told Ellen, “You can’t absolutely make everything the way you want it to be in life. Sometimes thing are just different and then you to just move with that and try and remain in contact with what is beautiful about yourself and each other with any situation.”

The last time the Arthur star was on Ellen’s show, he was attempting to squash rumors of a split. “I’ve treated the whole Internet now like it’s a wicked little liar. Yeah. I am really happily married,” he said on the Dec. 2 show. He then filed for divorce from Katy on Dec. 30.

Russell and Katy were married in October 2010 in India.

After all, last weekend Russell went ballistic on a heckler at his stand up comedy show in Atlantic City, New Jersey when they brought an audience member refused to stop yelling “Katy Perry”. Yikes! We guess the wound is still fresh.

This past Saturday at Music Box in Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, an audience member at Russell Brand’s comedy show struck a nerve with the funnyman when he began chanting his ex Katy Perry‘s name.

At first, Russell, 36, let it slide, but when the rowdy audience member refused to stop chanting, the Arthur actor decided to hop off stage and confront his heckler.

An eyewitness at the show tells Celebuzz:

“At one point Russell even had to tell an audience member in the front row to ‘shut-up’ as he was trying to put on a performance. He couldn’t seem to get a word in edge-wise with this very enthusiastic crowd.”

Once he found the pompous audience member yelling Katy’s name, Russell had some choice words, saying:

“It’s you, is it? Oh, dear. I was hoping that your personality was just a result of physical beauty. But then I saw you. I thought, ‘This guy’s confident, probably, because he’s incredibly handsome,’ but look at you. You look like somebody who’s fallen off the outside of a church. And what is it that you have rattling around your mind, some bizarre combination of alcohol and idiocy…some cocktail of nothing. And yet the confidence to continue shouting. They say of course, don’t they, that empty vessels make the most noise. What an enormous echo of nothingness from you.”

Russell’s rant didn’t stop there. “I think silence is your friend. I think keep your lips firmly, firmly clamped together. Because everything that comes out of your mouth, from your idiotic announcements to your disgusting halitosis that’s coming through this room, is an abomination.”  Ouch!
