The fatal shooting of an unarmed Florida teen has seemingly outraged the nation – and joining the chorus of condemnation are stars such as Jamie Foxx, rocker Joel Madden and NBA superstar Lebron James.

Trayvon Martin, 17, was shot Feb. 26 as he was returning to a gated community after buying candy at a convenience store.

The gunman, Neighborhood Watch captain George Zimmerman, has not been charged. He said he shot the unarmed youth, who is black, in self-defense.

Demanding justice in the case, James, along with his teammates, stood in solidarity in a photo that he posted on Twitter Friday. The Heat players were all wearing a hoodie, which Martin was wearing at the time he was slain.

What’s better than dressing up for awards season? Dressing up in something that helps save the world!

On Wednesday, Oscar winner Colin Firth and his wife Livia hosted an intimiate dinner at the Chateau Marmont to benefit Oxfam America, an international relief organization that combats poverty, hunger, and injustice. The red carpet couple decided to bring some awareness into the mix and asked their famous friends to dress in eco-friendly fashion — and boy, did party guests step out in style!

Cameron Diaz, Emily Blunt, Kimora Lee Simmons, and more donned on their best environmentally-friendly duds for the occasion.

This is Livia Firth’s third year is spearheading the project which asks top designers to use eco-friendly fabrics when designing gowns for awards season. Saving the world with one dress at a time? We’re totally loving this concept!

I’m closing the playlist with 2 classics – the undeniably romantic “Moon River” by Andy Williams (Breakfast At Tiffany’s, anyone?) and Anita Baker’s haunting rendition of “My Funny Valentine”. So burn your CDs, upload your playlists or start warming up those vocal chords. Because if your Valentine’s Day involves music at all, you’re off to a great start, fabs

I love “My Funny Valentine” because though the lyrics come off as less-than-flattering, ultimately what we hear in the song is a celebration that beauty and love come in all colors, shapes, sizes and, yes, pairings! You can’t stop love.

“Moon River”… Listen and melt.

“I Have Nothing” has always been one of my favorite Whitney ballads – poignant and determined. In particular, I love this performance she did in South Africa in 1994. Stylish, soulful, timeless – classic Whitney.

I’m also including “Run To You” – a song with unabashed lyrics connoting the comfort of finding the one you’ve been waiting for. Enjoy!

Sometimes sparse instrumentation leaves room for some pretty BIG emotions. Such is the case with Jay Sean’s “Down (Candle Light Remix)”. The Cash Money crooner struck gold last year with his pop radio classic “Down” but allow me to share with you his softer side. This piano-driven retooling of his paean to limitless devotion tugs at my heartstrings. Plaintive, pleading, our hero matches each tinkle of the ivory with velvet inflections. Jay Sean, I speak for most ladies and some of my favorite fellas when I answer you: Yes. We’re all down.

“Let me set the mood right…” Yes, Justin. Please do. Nothing fits quite so well on a playlist as a duet. And in honor of Beyoncé’s re-emergence looking fabulous and in celebration of Justin Timberlake’s moony-croony voice, I’m tossing this shrimp on the barbie! Honest, plaintive, guileless – that’s the way to sing your way into a woman’s heart. Take note, fellas – and ladies!

Method Man and Mary J. Blige’s re-imagining of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s ‘grown and sexy’ late 60s classic was the remake of all remakes. A Grammy winner in 1996 for Best Rap Performance by Duo or Group, it’s one of the most unique love songs I’ve ever heard – but one of my fave. I love the frankness in the lyrics. “Thug Love” or not, it’s a classic and I’m proud to have it on my Vday playlist.

Fabs, please don’t get it twisted or tangled. Please don’t sleep on Paris. Her debut single was overlooked and under appreciated but it is quite simply one of the hottest pop songs in recent times. It’s a sun drenched slice of reggae pop perfection – dreamy and romantic. A must have on any list of love songs…

Musiq’s…uh…music has a way-back, retro feel that recalls first crushes, trudging into first serious relationships and the one that got away (maybe). “Love” is a triumph on all these counts.

Ms. Labelle’s classic “Love, Need And Want You” is “grown folks music” for sure but offers something to listeners of all ages. Devotion is devotion, no matter the generation. Enjoy!

I love Amerie; her voice on this song is killer and the video was a perfect slice of NYC romance.

Robin Thicke is one of my fave crooners and has done wonders for people’s perceptions of blue-eyed soul. This song in particular shines as an example of his ability to create a sense of musical intimacy with just a few chords and his beautiful voice.

Wow – a LOT of different approaches were taken last night on the red carpet of the 2012 SAG Awards.
There was the ‘play it safe crowd’, the ‘look at me!’ crowd and a group of fashionistas that took..it…there.
Naya Rivera was resplendent in her grey-blue Naaem Khan.

Viola Davis continues her streak as one of the most regal women in Hollywood. Her white Grecian Marchesa made her statuesque – a triumph!

Ariel Winter’s bow in Australian designer Collette Dinnigan was pitch perfect; she was a master class in age-appropriate dress for young Hollywood. The intricacy and embellishment at the bodice added a storybook feel.

Okay fabs – now let’s talk talk about the few and the brave.

First up, Amber Heard dominated in a pre-Fall 2012 Zac Posen gown w cut-outs at shoulder and waist. Loved her updo and copper eyeshadow with a clean nude lip– very model, very editorial.

Emily Blunt’s emerald one shoulder Oscar de la Renta was bold; the high slit added a peek-a-boo quality that I think is unexpected because of the color.

Kimora Lee Simmons and her beautiful family — hubby Djimon Hounsou and son Kenzo — continued their holiday fun in the sun while hitting the beach in St Barts on Christmas day.

Kimora stunned in a black string bikini, showing off her amazing body. This is one hot Hollywood mom!

Meanwhile, Djimon also looked mighty fine. We hope he never finds that shirt! Not only is he extremely handsome, but the doting dad melts our hearts with his playful affection with his wife and son. Swoon!

Kimora Lee Simmons soaked up some tropical rays this holiday season. Over the weekend, Kimora was snapped frolicking in the surf of St. Barts with her husband Djimon Hounsou and son Kenzo.

The family looked happy and relaxed as they walked along the beach together. Djimon even gave little Kenzo a lift on his shoulders. How cute!

Kimora Speaks Out: Everybody’s All-American

Valarie Kaur, director of Groundswell, said it best: “We are hungry to see ourselves in another.”

Home Improvement chain Lowe’s recent decisions to pull their advertising from TLC’s popular series “All-American Muslim” is a disturbing reminder that there exist among us those who would seek to use bigotry as a tool to prevent all of us from truly seeing each other.

For that reason alone, I’m joining my friends and over 24,000 Americans in expressing my anger regarding Lowe’s and several advertisers DECISION to terminate their sponsorship of the program. These companies have done so at the behest of the Florida Family Association, a hate group whose toxic message uses religion to marginalize Americans like you and I and foster an environment of fear.

In the case of “All-American Muslim”, culture warriors are opposed to the program because it portrays Muslims as everyday citizens and includes no extremist agenda.

We can’t allow this group or their ideology to succeed. Because whoever you are; they’re coming for you. You’re next.

This country is about the merging of cultures and identities with the ultimate realization that fundamentally we are the same. Don’t let hate distract you and narrow your view of humanity.

I’m proud to add my voice to the chorus of those who stand up for freedom of religious expression.

I won’t be manipulated by fools from the fringe into conflating the acts of a group of relatively few extremist fanatics with an entire faith observed peacefully by millions of people worldwide.

Islam is a decidedly peaceful religion and I support all peaceful acts of religious faith over the world.

It is Lowe’s and the Florida Family Association that are the fanatics.

Regarding the cowardice of advertisers standing in the way of ethnic understanding, I’ll echo the thoughts of my dear friend and business partner Russell Simmons:

Save your faux-pology, Lowe’s. You keep your money and we’ll keep ours.
