On working with Lady GaGa:

“You know it’s really just an energy thing. Doing all these songs, different producers, different writers, it’s always a different vibe in the world, and Gaga is so free and expressive and eccentric that she brought that out in me, she encouraged that side to come out. She was definitely on the other side of the recording studio, the other side of the glass, egging me on. “More! Crazier! Go further with it!” It was fun. I think we caught the spirit of rock ‘n roll in there.”

On the recent Britney Spears lip-synching controversy:

“They haven’t been watching her career for the past few years? That’s what she does.”

On Kris Allen‘s new CD:

“It’s fantastic. I got a copy from a publicist. What I love about his album is he really stayed true to what made him so fantastic on the show because he’s an incredible musician, he’s got a beautiful voice and he’s honest. I  think those songs really captured his spirit.”

Today, Kris debuted the music video for “Live Like We’re Dying,” the first single off his debut album.

Popeater caught up with the Idol stud to talk about the making of his first music video ever.

On the concept for ‘Live Like We’re Dying.’

It was cool because we actually shot it in the desert in L.A. in the middle of nowhere in this junkyard and we had this set, it was this huge digital clock which was really cool and it was kind of raggedy looking and we shot it from 8PM to 8AM in the morning. That was crazy, with no breaks at all. The video is really cool … It looks great. The idea behind it is that I plug in the clock and I’m pulling the big cord through the junkyard and through all these other things and then I plug in the clock and it starts counting down to zero and there’s performance stuff in there. I’m playing the guitar and playing the piano and singing, too. In the end when it hits zero, it’s kind of like the song, it’s like we only have so much time so we gotta do what we want to do.

How much input did he have with the whole production?

We had people submit stuff first and it was a little frustrating because I felt like people weren’t getting it … and then we were like “what if it was something like this?” and then another person came back with a great idea that with this idea it kind of intertwined with ours as well.

Did he have fun?

I did. I tried. It was so crazy because I was up all day the day before and I was trying to keep up and awake … And then it was like singing in your loudest tones, it was ridiculous. So I tried to have a great time and I really did, it was a lot of fun. It was my first video, so I was really trying to have a great time.

What do you think about his debut video?

The adorable singer performed at the Miami Dolphins tailgate party on Sunday and premiered three new songs and an arrangement of Britney Spears “Hit Me Baby One More Time.”

Allen says that he hopes that his debut will prove that he’s not just a golden throat, but a top-rate songwriter:

“That’s the thing that I wanted to do the most with this album, is show [the public] that I can write music.”

Not that he didn’t have a little bit of help in that department; Allen also reveals that he had nine co-writers for the record.

The singer proved his interpretive prowess once again at the Q102 Bosom Ball for Breast Awareness in Cincinnati on Wednesday, busting out an acoustic version of Britney Spears‘ 1998 breakthrough single, “…Baby One More Time.”

The Idol winner tells PopEater that he has every reason to believe that the comedienne/talk-show host can rise to the occasion, noting,

“Ellen is a good fit for the show. She is going to do a great job. Everyone loves her. She’s so funny, but at the same time, she’s so warm and easy to talk to…Paula was that warm personality on the show. You were never scared of her or what she was going to say. I don’t think any one is going to be scared of Ellen’s comments either. She is going to give a good listeners’ perspective.”

Now if only she can manage to keep Simon Cowell‘s mean streak in check the way Paula did…

The alleged debut single from the American Idol winner has leaked. Well, 23 seconds have leaked. But that’s better than nothing, right?

The song is a cover of The Script’s “Live Like We’re Dying” and Kris has told the press that it will be available for purchase by the end of the month. Awesome!

Us Magazine reports that American Idol winner Allen will belt out “The Star-Spangled Banner” during Game 2 of the NBA finals tomorrow, when the Los Angeles Lakers face off once again against the Orlando Magic.

Allen follows such AI alum as Taylor Hicks, Kelly Clarkson, Rubben Studdard, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks and David Cook in singing the national anthem at NBA championship games.

Game 2 of the NBA Finals will air at 8 p.m. Eastern time on ABC on Sunday.

And yet, Kris Allen and Justin Gaston have more in common than one might at first assume.

Both have recently recorded versions of the Beatles classic “Yesterday”—Gaston in a YouTube video, and Allen during a guest appearance on former Arkansas governor and GOP Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee‘s Fox News program. (Huckabee even accompanies Allen on the bass.)

According to a Times report, AT&T—a major American Idol sponsor and the sole outlet of text-message votes for the show—may have influenced the results in favor of Allen.

The Times reveals that representatives of the company provided free text-messaging services to attendees at two Arkansas parties organized for Kris Allen fans. According to the story, no similar amenities were provided to Lambert fans.

Compounding matters, attendees at the Allen parties were provided with instructions on how to “power text”—a method that allows users to send 10 texts or more at once, and which may run contrary to American Idol‘s voting rules.

“In Arkansas, we were invited to attend the local watch parties organized by the community,” an official for AT&T admitted in a statement released on Tuesday. “A few local employees brought a small number of demo phones with them and provided texting tutorials to those who were interested.”

Could that have been enough to tip the win to Allen?
