Is Quentin Tarantino circling a gangland epic as his next film? After screening his latest film, Django Unchained, at a BAFTA event, the director hinted that tommy guns and fedoras are in his future. “I could conceive maybe someday doing a 30′s gangster picture, or something like that.” The Pulp Fiction director also said that making another Western could be in the cards.
Fans of the TV show Friday Night Lights are going to have to take a knee if what Coach Taylor says about the prospective new movie is true. While promoting his new film, Zero Dark Thirty, Kyle Chandler said that, despite reports to the contrary, he is neither involved in any plans to bring the NBC series to the big screen, nor wants to be. “My general attitude about Friday Night Lights is, it was a great movie with Billy Bob [Thornton]. It was a great TV show,” Chandler said. “But they ended [the show] at exactly the right time, and exactly the right way as well.” The actor went on to say that he has yet to see a script for the film, or have any contact with director Peter Berg regarding the project.
But does Bigelow’s decidedly cold presentation of one woman’s decade-long manhunt succeed in its matter-of-factness or stumble in its refusal to evoke emotion?

Scott Mendelson, Huffington Post

“Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty is a refreshing ‘just the facts’ procedural drama that maintains an almost allergic aversion to melodrama. The film is ice-cold throughout, maintaining an even-keeled approach to the decade-long manhunt for Osama Bin Laden, pausing only occasionally to acknowledge the aftermath of violence.”

Peter Debruge, Variety

“The result is neither particularly entertaining nor especially artful, as the filmmakers take a lean, All the President’s Men-style approach to dramatizing an investigation that took nearly a decade to bear fruit…The script’s blood runs thick with observational detail and military jargon, skipping forward years at a time between scenes to focus on one of two types of incident.”

Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

“Kathryn Bigelow’s and Mark Boal’s heavily researched successor to Oscar winner The Hurt Locker will be tough for some viewers to take, not only for its early scenes of torture, including waterboarding, but due to its denial of conventional emotionalism and non-gung ho approach to cathartic revenge-taking. Films touching on 9/11, such as United 93, World Trade Center and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, have proved commercially toxic, and while this one has a ‘happy’ ending, its rigorous, unsparing approach will inspire genuine enthusiasm among the serious, hardcore film crowd more than with the wider public.”

Eric Kohn, IndieWire

“Zero Dark Thirty tracks a full range of emotions associated with the proverbial war on terror, from the naivete of its earliest stirrings to the spirit of vengeance that gave its apparent victory such a vital quality in the Western world. At the same time, the movie questions the certitude of the transition from despair to triumph, enabling Zero Dark Thirty to realize the power of its immediacy while giving the proceedings a lasting value.”

Jordan Hoffman, ScreenCrush

“The Hurt Locker was something of a master class in tension exercise, and one of the most well-paced movies ever made. Zero Dark Thirty, while certainly loaded with suspense, doesn’t have the precise and narrow focus needed for this sort of emotional workout. It’s a needle in a haystack picture and, as such, needs to be a little all over the place.”

Drew McWeeny, HitFix

“I can’t tell you for sure that the film has anything to do with the unvarnished truth, but I can tell you that this feels accurate. It has an integrity to it that is bracing and adult, and it manages to deliver a major visceral experience without ever once bending to Hollywood convention. This is a film that knows exactly what it’s doing, and does it without compromise.”

The Mega Millions jackpot is up to a record-breaking $640 million, and it’s anybody’s game! Though we won’t know the winning numbers until later this evening, Celebuzz thought we’d take a look back at some of the best TV and movie moments that featured people (like us) hoping to win big.

So, what are some of our favorites that come to mind?

First one for us would be Lost! Though we didn’t know it at the time, when Hurley won the lottery, the winning numbers “4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42″ would play a huge role in the rest of the mysterious series. Watch the video above.

Full House
On an episode of Full House, the gang tries to make Uncle Joey think that he won the lottery by putting an old video in the VCR (remember those?!) and trying to convince him that he had some winning lotto ticket numbers. Well, it looks like the joke ends up being on them! Check out the video here.

Did you catch last night’s Emmy Awards? In this edition of Cause Creative Space, we are offering you a chance to give back while staying true to your favorite TV shows.

We’ve matched causes that would make your favorite Emmy winning TV shows proud. We wouldn’t want you to miss another episode of your favorite show, so in that spirit, these are easy ways to give back without even leaving your couch.

Grab your laptop, turn on your TV, and let’s get giving from the comfort of your living room, you lounging do-gooder you.

Outstanding Lead Actor from a Drama went to Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights. We don’t know about you, but there’s nothing quite like football to get you up on your feet and cheering. Wait, rock ‘n roll does that too. Here’s a simple equation — Alice in Chains, plus Fantasy Football, equals charity? Well, it does now! Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell has rounded up a few of music legends to each donate one valuable item which will be auctioned off. The winner of his third annual Alice in Chains and Friends Fantasy Football Charity League gets to choose the charity beneficiary of the auction! Now THAT’S a cool prize. Auction details will be up soon. For more information, click here!

Jim Parson’s every one’s favorite Big Bang Theory nerd and Outstanding Lead Actor from a comedy would be happy to hear that robots are not only used for Skynet! Real life genius Tim Pryde, 21, developed a robot used to encourage people to give back! Meet Don-8r (get it? Donater). This lovable robot is run by donations and can say “Hello” and “Thank You” to passersby. During the next commercial
break, check out this awesome YouTube clip of the charming chap and be on the lookout for a street corner near you!

Outstanding Drama Series went to the show that makes us want to dress up just a bit more after watching each episode — Mad Men. If you’ve got an extra 23 grand to donate to your favorite charity, you’ll earn yourself a walk on role in Season 5. Men, before you lay down the dough on our favorite online auction site, Charitybuzz.com, please note you must be willing you cut your hair and shave off your facial hair. All in the name of doing good while looking dapper. The auction benefits ACLU of Southern California.

If dropping $23K seems a bit steep, take the Modern Family route of giving. MF took over the Emmy’s with five wins including Outstanding Comedy Series. Since we aren’t all lucky enough to be a part of Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s family, we’ll just settle with joining him on FriendFactor. This fancy schmancy website uses an innovative technology platform to galvanize change in the fight for equality. Check out Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Best Wedding Gift Ever YouTube clip which was filmed a few months back for the big vote in New York on marriage equality. Sign up at friendfactor.org if you’d like to get involved.

Great TV and Great Causes. Now that’s what we call Outstanding.
