Hey, remember yesterday, when Mackenzie Phillips shocked the world by claiming that she’d had an incestuous relationship with her late father, The Mamas and the Papas founder John Phillips?

Yeah, well, not so fast.

Phillips’ stepmother, Michelle Phillips—who was married to Papa John from 1962 to 1970—is thoroughly refuting Mackenzie’s claims in an interview with Showbiz 411.

The elder Phillips notes that, in 1997, Mackenzie told all of her family members about the alleged relationship with her father, but then quickly contacted Michelle again to issue a “just kidding” disclaimer:

“She told me [about the supposed incestuous relationship], then she called me back and said, ‘You know I’m joking.’ I said it wasn’t funny. Mackenzie said, ‘I guess we have different senses of humor.’ ”

Not that Michelle thinks her ex was an angel, mind you. She just doesn’t believe that he was capable of sleeping with his own daughter:

“John was a bad parent, and a drug addict. But [expletive deleted] his daughter? If she thinks it’s true, why isn’t she with a good psychiatrist on a couch? I think it’s unconscionable that Oprah [Winfrey] would let her do her show. I have every reason to believe it’s untrue. Oprah should be more judicious about who she has on her show.”

So why is Mackenzie spreading this falsehood to the public now? Phillips suggests that poor judgment brought on by decades of drug abuse, coupled with sibling rivalry, is compelling her to push herself into the spotlight with these outlandish claims:

“Mackenzie has a lot of mental illness. She’s had a needle stuck up her arm for 35 years. She was arrested for heroin and coke just recently. She did Celebrity Rehab and now she writes a book. The whole thing is timed…Mackenzie is jealous of her siblings, who have accomplished a lot and did not become drug addicts.”

Troubled former One Day at a Time actress Mackenzie Phillips is coming clean about her relationship with her father, The Mamas & the Papas founder John Phillips. And the details aren’t pretty.

People magazine has published excerpts from Phillips’ upcoming biography, High on Arrival, in which she reveals that she had a long-term incestuous relationship with her dad.

As Philips, 49, writes, the relationship began in 1979, the day before Phillips married Jeff Sessler, a member of the Rolling Stones‘ entourage. Phillips, who admits that she was a heavy drug user at the time, was an easy target for Papa John: 

“On the eve of my wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it. I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad’s bed…My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love, and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father.”

Phillips continues,

“Had this happened before? I didn’t know. All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it.”

But it would be far from the last time it occurred. Phillips goes on to write that by the following year, 1980, the relationship had become consensual.

This isn’t the only disturbing revelation that Phillips has made about her father recently.

In an interview scheduled to run on Wednesday’s episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, she reveals that dear ol’ Dad was the first person to shoot her up with drugs, injecting her with cocaine:

“My father shot me up for the first time…I remember going into my room, I was crouched on the floor. … He put the needle in my arm and put the plunger in and he missed…He missed the vein and my whole arm went numb.”

One Infraction at a Time, there, Mackenzie Phillips.

The embattled actress pleaded guilty to felony charges of cocaine possession today in Los Angeles. Her sentence, handed down by Judge Keith L. Schwartz, carries no jail time.

Philips will endure an 18-month rehabilitation program that, if completed successfully, will dismiss all charges upon completion.

“You’re making tremendous progress and I’m proud of you,” Judge Schwartz said of Philips current efforts at an in-patient drug facility in Louisiana.

The actress was arrested at Los Angeles International airport late this summer “carrying what appeared to be heroin and cocaine in baggies and balloons,” an airport police office said.

Faded actress Mackenzie Phillips is famous again, but not in any way she’d like to be.

TMZ reports that the One Day at a Time actress has been charged with two felony drug possession counts—one for heroin and one for cocaine—along with misdemeanor possession of hypodermic needles.

Mackenzie was arrested last week when she attempted to pass through security at Los Angeles International Airport.

Packets of heroin and cocaine, along with dozens of hypodermic syringes, were allegedly discovered in the 48-year-old show-biz kid’s belongings.

Following her arrest, the daughter of the Mamas and the Papas mastermind John Phillips initially refused to be bailed out of the Van Nuys jail. A day later, she accepted the help of half sister Bijou Phillips and left the facility.

Phillips has apparently taken the next indicated action and entered a rehab facility.

Here’s hoping all the best for Mackenzie, but rehab has a varied success rate at best among celebrities.

Apparently, Mackenzie Phillips approaches her attitude toward freedom one day at a time.

The former actress—who was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport Wednesday morning on charges of heroin and cocaine possession—has accepted bail from her half-sister Bijou Phillips, after initially rejecting it.

Bijou and her boyfriend, Danny Masterson, visited Phillips in the slammer yesterday and offered to post bail. Mac declined, saying she’d rather stay locked up. (Maybe she was looking for new connections.)

But Thursday, TMZ reports, Bijou returned to the Van Nuys jail and ponied up $10,000 to spring her half-sis.

Sounds like Mackenzie cracked under pressure. Then again, by celebrity jail-stint standards, an entire night in the clink is practically a life sentence.
