As Americans all over the country celebrate our Day of Independence with BBQs and fireworks displays, a few notable celebrities are missing out on the revelry.

American expatriates are no new phenomenon – living abroad has been in vogue with the glitterati for decades– and today’s celebrity expats are a glamorous bunch. Some celeb expats have skipped across the pond to escape the stresses of fame, while others have chosen to settle down in the homeland of their significant other.

Fergie, along with famed fashion designer Marc Jacobs, attended the amFAR Inspiration Gala in the city of lights on Thursday evening, and showed off just how fashionable they can be.

Pulling her hair back into a slick ‘do, the Black Eyed Peas singer was rocking some red lipstick in addition to her all black ensemble. Marc was looking slick in a black tux. What a handsome duo!

Here’s actress-turned-fashion designer Ashley on the cover of this summer’s edition of VMan Magazine. In the interview for the magazine—who brought you those hot Twilight pics—Ash spills some dish with good friend, fashion guru Marc Jacobs.

On her career: “The way I look at it, I had a career as a child. I had a career in an industry in which the media kind of…they’re obsessed with the young girl thing. But when I turned 18, I moved to New York, and I haven’t really done anything to be a celebrity. I’ve been transitioning from acting as a kid to doing something that I’m choosing for myself—to be a part of the fashion industry…the outside perception is very different because you do have celebrity brands, people like Jessica Simpson and Kimora Lee Simmons, and those are celebrity brands because they have their names on them.”

On working with Mary-Kate: “[Super-pricey fashion line] The Row is really something that I’m doing while my sister still wants to focus on acting. She’s my partner in The Row, but she trusts me with the every day [decisions]. I mean, I see her like ten times a day.”

On being different from her twin sister: “When I was 14, 15, 16, 17, it was harder because the two of us were still very similar. We had to work through what’s special about us, and then the media had to work through it…I’ve never been one to engage the media to say that I’m different. I actually did the opposite and I totally went internal. I was like, ‘See y’all!’ I want to be behind the scenes, and I don’t want people to know anything about my personal life. I have a job, I take it very seriously, and I work really hard.”

While the threads were splashy with shoulder pads and neons, the celebrity attendance was as minimal as monk robes.

It was previously announced by Jacobs and team that yesterday’s presentation, part of New York Fashion Week, would be scaled back grandly. Even more worrisome—a notoriously late Jacobs started the show only one minute off schedule.

Fashion elites Anna Wintour and daughter Bee Shaffer took in the looks, as did Rachel Zoe and French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld.

The very same show last year was attended by Victoria Beckham, M.I.A., Kevin Federline, Ellen Pomepo, Molly Sims, Gretchen Mol, Slema Blair, Vincent Gallo and Debbie Harry.

The hopeful fashion intern took a few giant steps ahead over the past few days, hitting inaugural balls for President Barack Obama then jetting off to Paris for Louis Vuitton’s menswear show.

Was he trying to grab some face time with Marc Jacobs to expedite his coffee-getting application?

Quite to the contrary, Kanye was there to unveil his shoe collaboration with the tattooed fashion king.

“I was inspired by the movie Dune because, as you know, I love sci-fi,” West, 31, told Women’s Wear Daily (who apparently knows how much he loves science fiction).

The result is a blood red shoe with a faded-but-omnipresent Vuitton canvas and super flexible, lightweight rubber detail and even a tongue on the back.

The buxom blonde, 41, has been tapped by reigning British designer Vivienne Westwood to star in her Spring 2009 ad campaign.

Westwood, a favorite of Gwen Stefani and Sarah Jessica Parker, has been taken with the Baywatch star for some time.

After a meeting at last year’s London’s Fashion Week, Westwood courted Anderson for the high-profile placement.

“At a meeting backstage after [Westwood's show], Vivienne thought Pamela looked stunning in her clothes,” a label rep tells British Vogue. “When thinking of casting her next campaign, she immediately thought of Pamela and called her to ask if she would be interested. Pamela agreed on the spot.”

The campaign was snapped by sexpot Marc Jacobs-partner Juergen Teller. Celebuzz can also reveal that the Teller shots will feature several nudes of Pamela. Plans to feature her full-frontal in international ads are as yet undecided.

Shot in a trailer owned by Anderson in Malibu, publishing house Steidl plans to compile the images and release them as a coffee-table book later in ’09.

When rumors hit in early November that the Material Mom, 50, would potentially front the line, speculation said that head Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs pegged her as his first choice and that she would be shot by photog team Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

In an interview today with Women’s Wear Daily, Jacobs revealed that the campaign instead was shot by fashion lens legend Steven Meisel, reuniting him with Madonna after their famous collaboration on her 1992 book Sex.

The images, shot in a French bistro in Los Angeles, show a smoking hot Madonna rocking the much-talked about furry cocktail dress in a mango shade, with various Vuitton bags in classic canvas and distressed burlap.

Jacobs revealed to WWd that the idea to use the singer came when he “just blurted out, ‘I think we should do Madonna.”

The evening before, the 45-year-old design king said he’d attended a stop on her Sticky & Sweet tour and “was totally just blown away by it, and moved by her performance, by what she had to say, and her energy.”

And as for her rumored $10 million price tag?

Vuitton Communications Director Antoine Arnault says, “It was very far away from that.” 

Whatever her sticker price, we say money well spent.

Granted any hip-hop star with Kanye’s swagger fights off ten aspiring Giselles before breakfast, but the 31-year-old’s interest might go deeper than the common urge for a video-quality human ornament.

Reports today say that, after breaking off his engagement with 30-something model-turned-designer Alexis Phifer and an alleged canoodling with Victoria’s Secret beauty Selita Ebanks, 25, West is now smitten with up-and-coming 19-year-old catwalker Sessilee Lopez.

Lopez, who was featured in West’s Flashing Lights video, has walked runways for some of the most esteemed fashion houses. She recently made history as one of the covergirls for Italian Vouge‘s all-black model issue.

New York magazine observes, “Kanye is the fashionphile and Sessilee a rising runway star.”

Lopez has strutted for Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin and Whitney Port-boss Diane Von Furstenberg. And West has an inclination to post these kinds of pictorials on his official blog.

Agents for Lopez had no comment on a possible love connection for her and West.

Jacobs counts style icon Victoria Beckham, 34, among his many celebrity boosters. And he counts James Jackson, the former Superintendent of New York City’s 69th Regiment Armory, as among his sleaziest past acquaintances.

According to a ruling by New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, reports TMZ, Jackson had been demanding bribes from Jacobs and other garment industry players over the past eight years.  In return for their clandestine payouts, Jackson would grant preferential use of the Armory for fashion shows.

The show, hosted by the beautiful Heidi Klum, was supposedly moving to Lifetime for it’s sixth season premiere in January of 2009. However, a judge on Friday ruled that the show cannot be moved from the NBC Universal-owned Bravo network.

After the ruling, NBC issued the following statement: “The overwhelming evidence demonstrated that the Weinstein Company violated NBC Universal’s right of first refusal to future cycles of Project Runway. After hearing all of the evidence, the court issued an order prohibiting the Weinstein Company from taking the show or any spinoff to Lifetime.”

Production for the new season on Lifetime has already started, with Lindsay Lohan scheduled as a guest judge for the season opener. That girl must be cursed!

The skinniest Spice Girl took to the stage, along with Eva Mendes and Maggie Gyllenhaal, to announce the Best Womenswear Designer award, which went to Calvin Klein‘s Francisco Costa.

The recent passing of fashion giant Yves Saint Laurent was on the minds of all in the room, and CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg kicked off the event by paying tribute to the Parisian designer. “Yves was an artist who always surprised us,” she said, dressed in a vintage YSL pantsuit. “He used to say he wanted to be Matisse, but I think Matisse would have wanted to be him.”

Menswear Designer of the Year went to Tom Ford, and Tory Burch took the accessories category in her first ever nomination. The Lifetime Achievement award was bestowed upon Carolina Herrera, who graciously said, “Thank you, New York, for opening up your arms to me. I love you all.”

The page, which has since been veiled behind enough walls of Facebookian privacy to rival Area 51, lists Hills star Lauren Conrad, Marc Jacobs, Jacobs’ ex-rent boy Jason Preston, useless Internet buzz girl Cory Kennedy and model Jessica Stam as “friends.”

Gawker has screen caps of the Facebook page in question, on which Mrs. Ronson explains away her recent very public falling off the wagon in NYC: “dont [sic] believe the hype. Im taking my sobriety seriously, and day by day. it was 430 am!!”

LiLo’s enemies have also found this special tribute to her love as well. Seems Lohan had a tiff with model Lauren Hastings last year in which nasty text messages advising weight loss and accusations of thievery were tossed about.

Ms. Hastings has apparently been airing her grievances via the page: “Actually your [sic] the one who is looking pretty fuckin’ thick these days,” reads one posting on Lindsay’s “wall.”

Ah, Facebook pages dedicated to your girl crush and catty bitches working it out over the Internet. High school is eternal.
