Michael Bay never really seemed to me like the kind of person who would apologize for anything. He does, however, seem like the kind of person who would make a young, aspiring actress degrade herself for a chance to be in one of his movies. As it turns out, my instincts were right, on both fronts.

Yesterday we published a quote the director gave in which he seemed to apologize for Armageddon, in that he directly said, “I will apologize for Armageddon.” Seems simple enough, right? Wrong.

When it got back to Bay that people were interpreting his apology as, well, an apology, Bay took to his official film forum to backpedal.

One press writer has gone too far in reporting false information. He has printed the bare minimum of my statement which in effect have twisted my words and meaning. I’m not in the slightest going to apologize for the third movie in my movie career, a film called Armageddon. On the red carpet for Pain & Gain some reporters asked me what are you apologizing for, and I said what on earth are you talking about?

What I clearly said to the reporter, is I wish I had more time to edit the film, specifcally the the third act. He asked me in effect what would you change if you could in your movies if you could go back. I said, I wish we had a few more weeks in the edit room on Armageddon. And still today Armageddon, is still one of the most shown movies on cable TV. And yes, I’m proud of the movie. Enough said.

You didn’t know that the number of times a film is played on cable is the standard by which its quality is measured, did you? Enough said is right.

The American public got a long-overdue apology when Michael Bay admitted this week that Armageddon, his Ben Affleck, Bruce Willis and Liv Tyler-starring asteroid blockbuster, was not very good.

In an interview with the Miami Herald, Bay had this to say about his movie.

I will apologize for Armageddon, because we had to do the whole movie in 16 weeks. It was a massive undertaking. That was not fair to the movie. I would redo the entire third act if I could. But the studio literally took the movie away from us. It was terrible. My visual effects supervisor had a nervous breakdown, so I had to be in charge of that. I called James Cameron and asked ‘What do you do when you’re doing all the effects yourself?’ But the movie did fine.

Armageddon was the second asteroid apocalypse-themed movie to come out in 1998. The first being Mimi Leder‘s far superior and less watched Deep Impact.

The apology is a bit of a surprise coming from Bay, who isn’t really known for his humility. Blaming the studio, however, isn’t really a very original excuse. Besides, the major problem with Armageddon always seemed to be that it expected you to take “space dementia” seriously. That sort of seems like something that should have been fixed in pre-production and wouldn’t really be affected by an abbreviated shooting schedule.

Also, Armageddon didn’t have Téa Leoni in it.

After Disney confirmed the rumors that director J.J. Abrams will direct the next Star Wars film — the long-awaited Episode VII — the only sound that threatened to drown out fan boy speculation about what that installment would be is fan boy speculation over who might take over the next Star Trek film.

The 30 Rock star and host of this year’s Golden Globes is in “late stage negotiations” to star opposite former Globes host, Ricky Gervais, in the Disney sequel. One writer has kicked off the new year by securing a high-profile assignment. Relative unknown Kealan O’Rourke will adapt The Houdini Box for Chernin Entertainment. Based on the book by Hugo Cabret author Brian Selznick, the story centers on a young boy who idolizes the famous magician. Upon receiving an invitation to Houdini’s house, the boy discovers that the magician has died and left the child a mysterious box. [Variety]

Seth Lochhead, the co-writer of the action thriller Hanna, has signed on to pen the movie adaptation of the popular video game, Shadow of the Colossus. Mark Wahlberg doesn’t want to wear sweatpants anymore.

At least, that’s what his character Daniel Lugo says in the new action comedy Pain & Gain.

On Wednesday, Paramount Pictures unveiled the brand new trailer for the Michael Bay film, based on the true story of a group of Miami bodybuilders who get involved in a kidnapping plot.

Wahlberg and his bulging biceps are in good company. Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie, Tony Shalhoub and their respective muscles also star in the film, along with Rebel Wilson, Ed Harris and Ken Jeong.

Pain & Gain is Bay’s first foray into dark comedy, but from this first look, there are still plenty of explosions, fast cars and testosterone to go around.

Wahlberg, who will reteam with Bay in 2013 for the next Transformers movie, recently told Collider about the chemistry he had with his blockbuster of a director on set.

“We kind of complemented each other throughout the entire process, what he does and what I do and what we were able to do together, and then after that I was like, ‘Dude we gotta work together again,’ and he was like, ‘Well I got a project, you interested?’”

Pain & Gain opens in theaters Apr. 26, 2013.

Mark Wahlberg and Optimus Prime have found two new co-stars. Newcomers Brenton Thwaites and Nicola Peltz have landed lead roles in Michael Bay‘s Transformers 4. Christmas has come early for fans of the popular mobile game, Angry Birds. Rovio Entertainment has announced, via press release, that a 3D, CG-animated film adaptation is due in theaters Summer 2016. Producers John Cohen (Despicable Me) and David Masiel (Iron Man) will develop the film, which has yet to lock down a writer or director.

Fans wanting a sequel to Kill Bill are in for disappointment. “I don’t know if there’s ever going to be a Kill Bill. Vol 3. We’ll see, probably not though,” Quentin Tarantino said in a recent interview. The director did indicate, however, that his next project might be a “companion piece” to Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds, forming an unofficial trilogy of sorts. Transformers fans: get ready for some muscle action.

Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures announced Thursday that Mark Wahlberg will star in Transformers 4, due in 2014.

“Mark is awesome,” Bay said in a statement released on his website.

“An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy.”

This will mark the second time Wahlberg, 41, will work with Bay, 47, on the big screen.

The pair recently wrapped production on Pain and Gain, Bay’s new action comedy also starring Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie, Ed Harris, Rebel Wilson and Rob Corddry.

“We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with [Wahlberg],” Bay continued in his statement Thursday.

The first three Transformers films have grossed more than $2.6 billion worldwide, with the most recent, Dark of the Moon, released just over one year ago.

No word on whether previous Transformers cast members, including Shia LaBeouf, will also appear in the fourth installment.

Transformers 4 will open in theaters June 27, 2014. Filming will begin next spring.

Out with the old, and in with the new(ish)!

In an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed that there is indeed a fourth film in the works, with a projected release date of summer 2014. Also, Michael Bay (who helmed the other three movies) is on board to direct. While the Transfomers franchise launched both Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox into superstardom, it is highly unlikely they will be back for this one, as di Bonaventura referred to the as-yet-untitled film as a “reboot.”

So, have they started looking for Shia’s replacement?

Not exactly. di Bonaventura said they need a story first.

“You can’t pick characters if you don’t have a story.”

Makes sense to us!

Bay has also confirmed the notion of a fourth Transformers flick on his official site. According to the press release, the film will hit theaters June 29, 2014.

Shia LaBeouf sure cleans up nice! The Transformers star changed out of his trademark vintage t-shirt and skinny jeans for a handsome well-tailored suit when he made an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman last night.

Shia remained true to his bad boy roots by wearing a non-traditional skinny suit with a light gray shirt. It may be different from what he normally wears but you can’t deny that Shia looks hot in a suit!

Once inside, Shia revealed to David Letterman that he has butted heads with Transformers director Michael Bay quite a few times.

“These movies are hard to make,” Shia told Dave when he asked if had ever gotten into a fight with Bay. “[He's never come at me] with any malice but he’s my teammate, even teammates scream at each other.”

Shia is full of revelations about life on the Transformers set. The former Disney star revealed to Details magazine that he had hooked up with co-star Megan Fox while they were filming together.

“Look, you’re on the set for six months, with someone who’s rooting to be attracted to you, and you’re rooting to be attracted to them,” Shia tells the magazine. “I never understood the separation of work and life in that situation. But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry onscreen.”

Shia and Megan were long-rumored to be hooking up on the Transformers set during “off” periods from Megan’s relationship with now-husband Brian Austin Green.

Megan isn’t the only co-star that Shia has hooked up with – the actor dated Wall Street 2 co-star Carey Mulligan after the two met on set.

Sorry dads, by the looks of these bikini pics, Megan Fox‘s husband Brian Austin Green definitely had the best Father’s Day ever.

The twosome were spotted enjoying a beach-filled Father’s Day weekend in Hawaii, with Megan donning not one but two very sexy string bikinis by (the pink one by Le Doux Swimwear). The couple were in Hawaii for the Maui Film Festival last week, where Megan was awarded the Iris Award.

Earlier this weekend, Transformers director Michael Bay broke his silence about why Megan was fired from the uber-successful film franchise.

“You know the Hitler thing,” Michael told reporters in a press interview for Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon. “Steven [Spielberg] said, fire her right now.”

Megan infamously likened Bay to Hitler in an interview with Wonderland magazine back in 2009: “He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is.”

“So he’s a nightmare to work for,” Megan continued. “But when you get him away from set, and he’s not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he’s so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all. And it’s endearing to watch him.”

Megan was dropped from the Transformers series right before the cast began filming for Transformer: Dark Side of the Moon back in 2010. At the time, Megan’s rep told reporters that the actress had decided to leave the franchise on her own. Megan was replaced by Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Is Megan Fox – arguably one of the most lusted-after women on Earth – uncomfortable with being sexy? Her former Transformers co-star Shia LaBeouf seems to think so, as he credits her wariness about director Michael Bay‘s hyper-sexual style as the reason she left the popular film franchise.

“Megan developed this Spice Girl strength, this woman-empowerment [stuff] that made her feel awkward about her involvement with Michael, who some people think is a very lascivious filmmaker, the way he films women,” Shia told the LA Times. “Mike films women in a way that appeals to a 16-year-old sexuality. It’s summer. It’s Michael’s style. And I think [Megan] never got comfortable with it.”

During her time in the Transformers franchise, Megan didn’t hide the fact that she wasn’t Michael Bay’s biggest fan. The beautiful actress famously likened the Transformers director to Hitler in an interview with Wonderland magazine back in 2009 and said he was “a nightmare to work for.”

There was also a report that Michael made a then-unknown Megan audition for her Transformers role by washing his Ferrari in a skimpy outfit. Yikes!

Shia doesn’t exactly deny the fact that Bay is a difficult guy to work with:

This is a girl who was taken from complete obscurity and placed in a sex-driven role in front of the whole world and told she was the sexiest woman in America. And she had a hard time accepting it. When Mike would ask her to do specific things, there was no time for fluffy talk. We’re on the run. And the one thing Mike lacks is tact. There’s no time for [LaBeouf assumes a gentle voice] ‘I would like you to just arch your back 70 degrees.’

Megan famously dropped out of Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon back in 2010. She was replaced with Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who presumably was OK with getting sexy on camera.

If Megan was uncomfortable with embracing her sexy image she doesn’t appear to be afraid about getting sensual on camera these days – Megan currently stars in a series of super-sexy ads for Armani. Check out one of her hottest commercials, “The Tip,” below.

In the end, Megan doesn’t appear to be stressing about missing out on the new Transformers flick. The actress recently joked on her Facebook page about playing Halo. “Attention gamers,” Megan wrote earlier this week, “Getting 21 kills by hiding next to a gravity lift with an energy sword does not make you a badass, it make you a coward.”

What happens when you combine Taylor Lautner with Transformers director Michael Bay? Hopefully lots of action – and muscles.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the 19-year-old Twilight hunk is teaming up with Bay for a new action-packed movie that is being described as “Mr. and Mrs. Smith meets Wanted.”

Deadline reports that Taylor and Bay sent out their script to the major movie studios on Tuesday night. There’s no word on which studio will pick up the script but considering that both Taylor and Michael are two of the biggest stars in Hollywood they are sure to find a nice home for their new flick.

Unlike his indie film-loving Twilight cast-mates Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Taylor is clearly interested in pursuing a big-budget action film career. Taylor has several action projects in the works including Adbuction (co-starring rumored girlfriend Lily Collins) and Stretch Arm-Strong.

Michael has previously catapulted the careers of stars like Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. While Taylor doesn’t need any career boosts – he was recently named the highest-paid teen in Hollywood – a big Bay project could help him with his post-Twilight life.

TV deity Oprah Winfrey has done what no one in the film industry could do – top the annual money list. The 56-year-old, who brokered a syndication deal for her talk show, ran her own magazine and readied the launch of her own network, brought home $315 million this calendar year, putting her leaps and bounds ahead of No. 2, Avatar creator James Cameron and his $210 mil.

All-around threat Tyler Perry, at No. 3, bested some of Hollywood’s most legendary (and profitable) filmmakers: Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer. He banked $125 million in 2010 thanks to his films Why I Did I Get Married Too? and For Colored Girls.

Beyonce Knowles was the only musician to crack the list’s top 10 by earning $87 million, but Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift all made the top 20 while at the same time shutting out some big name leading men, who often are the usual suspects for an end-year list like this.

Holding down the last spot is Judge Judy, whose monetary success is equal to Taylor’s at $45 million.

Few athletes can have as poor a year as Tiger Woods and still remain relevant, but he’s done that and more, raking in $105 million in 2010.

Better get your fill when Transformers: Dark of the Moon hits movie theaters next July, because after that the franchise is coming to an end. At least with director Michael Bay behind the camera and Shia LaBeouf in front of it.

During a lengthy interview with Collider, Bay admitted that he’s throwing the towel in with the hugely successful series after the upcoming third installment, opining that  the franchise has run its course in its current format:

“I think this has gotta be it. I think someone else will take the torch from here. … It’s just that I don’t think you could do it again with Shia [LaBeouf] and everybody, I think it’s time to move on.”

Bay also notes his disappointment with last year’s sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, admitting that the film was plagued by several stumbling blocks:

“On the second movie we got burned. We had a writers strike, we had to agree on a story in three weeks, and then we knew they were going on strike. It was a f***ed scenario all the way around; it wasn’t fair to the writer; it wasn’t fair to me; it wasn’t fair to anybody. It was still an entertaining movie, but I think we failed on certain aspects.”

So how did Bay and crew turn things around for Dark of the Moon? According to the helmsman,

“What we did with this movie is I think we have a much better script, and we got back to basics. … It’s more serious. I got rid of the dorky comedy; I mean we’ve got two little characters, that’s it, but the dorkiness is not there. Dork-free Transformers. It’s much more serious. It’s still entertaining; it’s big-looking.”

Megan Fox is a liar! Well, kind of.

The Jonah Hex actress recently revealed in Interview magazine that she has lied in interviews to keep her private life hidden from the public eye:

In the past, I’ve been reluctant to share any bits of truth about myself or to really let people in on my reality. So I have said some things to throw people off the scent of what’s really going on in my life. So I have sort of aided the media in printing these misconceptions, which I regret.

So what things about Megan are untrue? Maybe she was fibbing when she said she had a fear of dirt and germs. Or maybe she was lying when she said that she really loves working with Transformers director Michael Bay? Ha, just kidding. We don’t think even Megan would ever say something as untrue as that.

So, has Megan’s lying actually helped keep the media off her back? Well, considering that she is photographed every time she leaves the house we think she has learned that lies aren’t the best way to hide.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely may not have too much acting experience, but she appears to be an expert on how things work in Hollywood.

The lingerie model scored her role as Megan Fox‘s replacement in Transformers 3 thanks to her undeniable acting talent. Ha! Just kidding, she wore lingerie to her audition.

An on-set source blabs to Hollywood Life about how Rosie scored the coveted role:

It was a formality, she had the part, but she had to meet Shia to see if they gelled. Having her in as little clothing as possible was just the icing on the cake. When she walked down a staircase in that outfit — wow.

According to the source, Rosie wore a white see-through lingerie top and panties to the audition. No word on if the scene she actually read for involved her having to be in her underwear but we’re pretty sure that Michael Bay appreciated her can-do attitude either way.

Megan Fox might be totally dunzo with the Transformers movie franchise, but the drama behind the split is the gift that keeps on giving.

New details are emerging about Fox’s claim that she quit the series because of director Michael Bay‘s dictatorial ways. Those who know the actress are coming forward to confirm the claim, in most juicy ways. According to one Fox associate,

“[Megan] would constantly complain about having to go to work, she never wanted to do it. Bay would constantly scream at her. He would scream at everyone, but especially Megan. Imagine a really, really bitchy grandmother on the set, and that’s what Michael Bay is like.”

Another source intimate with the production of the Transformers flicks says Fox once told him,

“All [Bay] wants to do is shoot my *ss and my t*ts, I hate him!’”

Well, it’s difficult to totally fault him on that count; Megan’s said body parts are, pretty indisputably, camera-friendly.

We can only hope that Fox’s reported replacement, former Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, has a thicker skin. And doesn’t mind it being constantly photographed.
