Single women everywhere always wonder — what do you wear to wow on a first date?

Well fret no further, for Nicole Richie is lending her style savvy to break down how dress on a romantic rendezvous in the latest episode of her hit webseries, Candidly Nicole.

The fashion maven takes girlfriend Erin Foster to Satine boutique in Los Angeles to help her find a first-date look, dragging along a guy pal Ben Lyons for a dude’s opinion. What the threesome soon discover is what the Man Repeller has been preaching for years — women often love outfits that displease men.

“I think it’s a common problem with girls not to know the difference between what’s appropriate to wear in front of a guy and what’s appropriate to wear in front of a girl,” Nicole says. “There is a difference in what a girl thinks it cute and what a guy thinks is cute.”

One primary point of fashion contention: harem pants. “I mean, she looks cute,” Nicole says of black bottom’s Erin has tried on. “What the f**k are harem pants?” a baffled Ben asks, ogling at the beautiful blonde’s outfit.

“It’s a dropped crotch,” Nicole explains, tugging on her trendy printed trousers — which Ben hilariously terms “MC Hammer” pants — for clarification. “And then they’re tighter around the bottom half of the leg. It’s just not a guy’s outfit…. It’s definitely a girl’s outfit.”

“But I’m a girl,” Erin implores, “and I’m hatin’ it.”

Well, seems the jury is still out on harems. But Ben is right on one thing — any resemblance to the below surely won’t win you a second date.

The talk of the town this week was the annual Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. At this hallowed eve, every other famous person gathered in their craziest get-ups to celebrate all thinks punk (this year’s theme). With this event came lots of celebrity Tweets and Instagram snaps, which gave us an even more personal behind-the-scenes look at the festivities.

Just a few days before flying to New York for the Gala, Nicole Richie posted a picture of herself in front of the famous Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood. The socialite was joined by her equally beautiful friends, Liberty Ross and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. All three of the ladies looked infinitely chic, which foreshadowed Richie and Huntington-Whiteley’s daring looks at the gala, days later.

Fast forward to the day of the Met Gala itself: one of its veterans, Kate Bosworth gave us a closeup of her pink, embellished Balmain dress, via Twitter. Uma Thurman also opted for a candid picture of herself in her stunning Zac Posen gown — in the museum bathroom. Candid, indeed!

Kendall Schmidt of Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush also spent some time in the Big Apple this week. The singer headed to New York to do press for the upcoming summer tour and album release from the boy band. He paired his excursion with a picture of himself en route.

While some of you were balking at her Met Ball get-up last night, Nicole Richie has moved on to more pressing matter: Flowers.  Flowers for your kitchen, flowers to reflect how grown-up you are, flowers for Mother’s day.  Flowers.  Everywhere.

On episode two of AOL On’s Candidly Nicole, Richie stopped by Eric Buterbaugh‘s flower gallery in Beverly Hills.  Her mission: To determine what kinds of flowers go with certain occasions (such as getting to third base, but not going all the way).

Buterbaugh and Richie went back and forth on what kind of vase to select and which flowers are best to bring to a lesbian wedding.

Fact: Daisies are considered the “Desperate” flower.

Looks like Nicole Richie’s got two rock stars in her family.

The 31-year-old and her musician husband Joel Madden are proud parents to daughter Harlow, 5 and son Sparrow, 3.

And according to Richie, it’s Sparrow who’s been living the rock star life . . . at home.

“Joel, he performs and he does meet and greets and the whole thing and Sparrow’s seen that so he likes to do shows for us,” the Fashion Star mentor revealed on an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing Friday.

“I actually work out of my house so everyone that works in the house, everybody has to go downstairs to the kitchen. Joel’s his bodyguard and Joel says he’s very busy and he stands on his step stool and he goes, ‘I’m very busy but nice to meet you,’” Richie said of the daily performance. “And we go stand in line and we shake his hand and you take a picture with him.”

Cutest. Game. Ever.

Leading ladies are hitting all the white notes this in New York City this week.

Now that spring is in full swing, stars are whipping out their lighter fashion fare, providing for a perfect style showdown of flirty white frocks.

Sarah Jessica Parker wore an simple yet elegant embroidered dress — with practical pockets to boot — accessorized with a statement necklace and nude suede pumps for the AOL 2013 Digital Content NewFront presentation in downtown Manhattan.

Also soaking up the spotlight at the event was Nicole Richie, channeling ’60s chicness with a long-sleeved, high-neck number adorned with chain detailing across the chest.

Over in the Chelsea neighborhood, Eva Longoria hit high marks with a folded white leather frock at the fashion-forward launch event for Salvatore Ferragamo’s L’Icona leatherwear.

Then there was indie darling Maggie Gyllenhaal, donning a bright-white Prada with ruffling detailing as she toasted the upcoming Great Gatsby remake at Catherine Martin And Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby Opening Cocktail.

Yesterday, Nicole Richie debuted her AOL On web series, Candidly Nicole.  And it was awesome.

One forgets just how funny Lionel’s daughter is, and I was brought back to Fox’s The Simple Life. Richie stole the show as Paris Hilton‘s interesting sidekick, who then parlayed her career into that of a fashion icon. From there came a brand, and then a spot on NBC’s Fashion Star.

In the pilot episode, the mother of two payed a visit to LA’s Dr. Tattoff to see about removing her tramp stamp.

And the rest is reality magic…

It wouldn’t be a memorable Sunday without some new photos of Jessica Alba and Nicole Richie showing off their hotness — and svelteness — in tropical St. Barts.

And they sure do continue to wow us with their bikini fashions — and tanned and toned bods.

The BFFs continued their getaway with some more fun — and floating — in the ocean waters off the A-list-only island that attracts the likes of Simon Cowell, Jay-Z and Beyonce, who were spotted there last year.

The ladies have been sunning together, with other celeb friends Soleil Moon Frye and hubby Jason Goldberg, since Thursday — and it wouldn’t be a Caribbean paradise without Alba and Richie making their signature fashion statements, even on the beach.

The always camera-ready gals look tan and fit in their itsy bitsy bikinis. Alba, rocking a purple bandeau top and matching bottoms, can be seen getting in some private time with her husband Cash Warren on the sand, while Richie looks red hot in her strong bikini and floppy Stetson-style hat as she heads out for some ocean lounging on her raft alongside some friends.

Now that’s what we call cooling off celebrity-style.

Jessica Alba and Nicole Richie are down in St. Barts having themselves a grand old time.  It’s not a girls-only trip (Cash Warren and a few other dudes tagged along), but Alba and Richie were photographed splashing around with their friends and taking group photos in the water.

As you can see in our photo gallery, not much has changed for Alba since her Into The Blue Days.  Two kids later, and still hot-to-trot.

Friends that vacation together, stay together.

Nicole Richie joined celebrity BFF Jessica Alba on her St. Barts getaway this week, enjoying refreshments with the Machete Kills actress at their resort Thursday.

Clad in a blue bikini and jean short shorts, 31-year-old Richie flaunted her super fit beach bod as she chatted with friends.

Seeing how Alba was also seen parading around the beach with a nothing but a skimpy two-piece the very same day, there was clearly a good-looking people convention in town that we didn’t know about.

Fine, that’s cool by us.

It may have be seven years since they split, but celebrity stylist and Bravo star Rachel Zoe is still spitting mad with designer and Fashion Star judge Nicole Richie.

So much so that interns working with the top-selling author and reality star are banned from saying Richie’s name while their big boss is around, according to an insider who spoke to Celebuzz.

“Nobody is allowed to mention Nicole Richie’s name – that is a huge no-no for Rachel. She is obviously still upset with her,” the source said.

When the two women parted company in 2006, Richie, 31, infamously dubbed Zoe, 40, a “raisin face” on a blind item posted on her then MySpace blog titled X-Ray.

It read:

“What 35-year-old raisin face whispers her order of 3 pieces of asparagus for dinner at Chateau every night, and hides her deathly disorder by pointing the finger at me, and used her last paycheck I wrote her to pay for a publicist instead of a nutritionist? HINT: Her name is lettucecup …”

But Richie’s name isn’t the only one banned in the presence of Miss Zoe, because that honor extends to her arch nemesis Brad Goreski, too.

Zoe’s former assistant – who now stars in his own reality show on Bravo, It’s A Brad Brad World – also supposedly still makes her blood boil.

“Nobody is allowed to say Brad’s name either. His name came up in a conversation once and when Rachel overheard that, she totally winced and walked off,” the insider added.

Mom-of-two, Richie – who ironically has gone on to create her own successful fashion and jewelry line The House Of Harlow – appears as a judge on the new series of NBC’s Fashion Star alongside John Varvatos, Jessica Simpson and Louise Roe, which premiered on Friday.

“She’s doing it with caution and she’s listening to her body; she’s not overdoing anything,” she added.

Hollywood may have had its biggest night of the year on Sunday, but it was business as usual for some of the industry’s most talented the following day.

Andrew Garfield turned on his Spidey senses on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in New York City on Monday. The 29-year-old actor will reprise his role as the superhero for the highly anticipated sequel, out in 2014.

The film will also star his real-life girlfriend Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Sally Field and Paul Giamatti.

Elsewhere in the city, Willow Smith was spotted leaving her hotel in SoHo. Over the weekend, it was announced that the title role of the upcoming Annie remake will go to Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis.

Smith, who was originally considered for the part, eventually grew too old for it.

In Hollywood, Jessica Alba donned a fun leopard top while running errands around town. The mother of two recently surpassed her 666th post on Instagram — a bad luck milestone caught by her husband CashWarren.

“Phew #667 post. Glad @CashWarren caught that #superstitious ;),” she wrote on Sunday.

In couples sightings, Donald Faison and his pregnant wife Cacee Cobb attended a gifting event in Beverly Hills, LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian ran errands in Los Angeles and Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell took a stroll in the gorgeous sunshine.

From eye-catching jewels and statement clutches to fancy footwear, this year’s Golden Globes fashion was all about the accessories.

With many stars rocking the same trends — red, blush, mermaids and gold — and some red carpet twins even sporting styles so similar they were barely indistinguishable, accessories took on an even more important role.

Though there was little red carpet diversity in terms of styles and hues, unexpected extras helped distinguish and define each starlet’s look.

Some stars like Nicole Richie and Jessica Alba added personality to classic gowns by carrying clutches with flair. But what really took Alba’s look to the next level was the sparkly stunner on her neck.

As Project Runway judge Nina Garcia told us, many stars made a glam statement with gorgeous, one-of-a-kind jewels.

Emily Blunt, Hayden Panettiere and Jennifer Garner wore some of the Globes’ most buzz-worthy bling, choosing one or two standout pieces to complete their looks.

Meanwhile some stars — including the night’s host Amy Poehler, as well as Modern Family’s Ariel Winter and Smash‘s Katharine McPhee — finished their ensembles with fancy footwear.

Metallic clutches and glitzy bangles were the red carpet’s big accessory trends, but even those were as unique and stunning as their owners (or borrowers).

It wasn’t just about the gorgeous gowns at this year’s Golden Globes. From sexy smoky eyes and winged eyeliner to old-school Hollywood waves, celebs walked the red carpet with stunning (and some surprising) hair, makeup and nails.

From Zooey Deschanel’s “60s social look” donning a high, bouncy ponytail, red lips and a pearl necklace to Nicole Richie, Amy Adams, Tina Fey and Isla Fisher’s sexy waves—retro-chic locks ruled the red carpet.

The Globes’ makeup was all about the eyes. Claire Danes, Katharine McPhee and Julianne Hough rocked the smokey eye.

If the stars eyes weren’t smokey, they were heavily-lined. Winged eyeliner, worn by Emily Blunt, Carla Guglio, and Taylor Swift made for this year’s pretties peepers.

And the night’s most surprising accessory? Ear cuffs. Both Hough and Giuliana Ranscic rocked these funky ear pieces that feel so rocker-chic and anything but ordinary on the red carpet.
