Celebuzz sat down with the all-star supermodel cast of Oxygen’s new show, The Face, to get the inside scoop on America’s newest modeling competition.

With legendary models Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha, and Karolina Kurkova serving as mentors and former America’s Next Top Model judge, Nigel Barker, acting as host, The Face promises a fresh take on TV modeling competitions.

To get ready for  Tuesday’s series premiere, the stars gave us six reasons why viewers should watch.

1. It gives viewers a look into the modeling world, on and off the runway.  Besides working the runway, The Face shows viewers just how much work goes into the life of a model off the runway.

“This is real business, this is the real world, this is the world that I love, and this is the world that people have never seen on television,” Barker tells us. “They think they’ve seen the fashion business, they think they know about what it’s like to be a model, but they’ve never actually seen what makes a real supermodel tick.”

2.  It’s about more than just a pretty face. Instead of just focusing on which girl has the prettiest picture, The Face looks to explore many other behind-the-scenes aspects of the fashion industry.

“Being a model is not about just being pretty, its about what we call ‘having the package,’ being able to talk, know how the lighting works, styling yourself, having a style, having an opinion, being personable and accessible to people,” Kurkova explains. “You have to be in front of a camera, you have to be able to edit pictures, come up with ideas, and be an art director. The girls of the show are taking on roles of the whole industry. They’re not just being models, they’re being photographers, art directors, stylists… everything. There will be a lot of different things they will face in the real life of the fashion world, and they should know about the craft.”

3. The competition is amongst the judges as well as the models. The competitors of The Face are divided up into three teams — each getting a supermodel-mentor. This allows viewers to watch their favorite models candidly step into the fray of the competition along with contestants.

“People hear things about Naomi Campbell, you see pictures of Coco Rocha, but you don’t know why they did it or how they did it,” Barker says. “You just get a snippet, you get to see them in longevity, you get to see all the aspects, and the answers, and the reasons why, and it all makes sense. Anyone who’s fascinated with fashion is going to be interested in the show.”

“We’re three different girls from three different generations and how do we train these girls? That’s what’s so interesting about this,” Rocha explains. “Not only about the girls, but about the mentors and what they do.”

4. Naomi Campbell means guaranteed drama. While we don’t know exactly how the show will play out, we can only hope that the supermodels’ claws will come out, if only just for a little while.

“I’m a tough love coach, which I think you can imagine,” Campbell says. “And I give encouragement and praise to my girls, but I also tell them when things are not right and they need to change them. Those are still suggestions, by the way, that they can choose to do or not. I don’t want to candy coat anything for them. They need to know the truth because we’re not going to be there, holding their hand when they go into the real world and they need to know. I’m as honest and as organic and authentic as I can be.”

The Face premieres on Tuesday at 9PM on Oxygen.

Naomi Campbell lives a life of fame, fortune and fabulousness — but on this Valentine’s Day, the supermodel says things will be anything but.

“[I'll be] working!” The 42-year-old stunner revealed at the New York premiere of The Face on Tuesday.

Premiering next Tuesday on Oxygen, The Face pits supermodels Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha against one another as they compete to find the next face of ULTA Beauty.

Campbell describes her coaching skills as “tough love, but very protective.”

So, does this mean her model wannabees were afraid of her?

“No, they weren’t. Not at all,” she dismissed.

Meanwhile, Celebuzz also shared a quick moment with Nigel Barker, who joins The Face as host after years of judging models on the CW hit America’s Next Top Model.

“For me, it’s all about imparting my 20-odd years in the business, and being there to help negotiate and referee and explain to the audience what’s actually going on on set,” Barker, who left Top Model last year, said. “It can be quite complicated.”

Complicated, as in, backstage fighting between the models? Not so much.

“It was all fun and games,” he said. “There were a couple times, here and there, when personalities clash and they weren’t necessarily happy with the decisions — and they voiced that.”

“But they’re not there to be quiet or lame ducks. These are women who are there because they have opinions — and they voice it!”

America’s Next Top Model cycle 16 kicked off Wednesday night and noted fashion photographer and author Nigel Barker is back in the saddle as the shows resident British  shutterbug. The veteran Top Model judge, who is sporting a head full of luscious locks these days, recently sat down with Celebuzz following his appearance on MTV‘s The Seven to discuss the new season of the smash reality series, his Oscar predictions and his big screen debut alongside Russell Brand.

Since season 3, Barker has judged and photographed the gorgeous models in the making around the world, but assures fans that this season ANTM will be better than ever. Besides a trip to Morocco and the biggest weekly prize in the history of Top Model, Barker reveals that this season is more emotional than past cycles.

“It’s a very emotional season. We haven’t had this kind of emotion on Top Model ever, maybe season 2 and 3 were similar, but there are times when the entire crew cries, all the girls and even the judges and that’s unusual. We have some serious Top Model therapy happening. It’s one of my favorite seasons in a really long time.”

It’s hard to believe that the show has existed and has been a runaway hit for the CW for 8 years. Even more surprising is that it has managed to stay relevant and entertaining. Barker chalks this success up to the honesty of the show.

“I think the funniest thing about everybody is that we are all exactly how we are on TV in real life. It’s not a performance. One of the reasons Top Model’s been so successful is that there’s believability of the judges.”

The show is currently casting cycle 17 and producers are scouring the country for the next fresh-faced fashion superstar. Barker has a few tips for the young ladies who want to make it past the casting episode next season (and being ‘pretty‘ is not one of them).

“One of the biggest mistakes people make in casting it that they thinks it’s all about being pretty and they think it’s all about being a certain size, or height or weight. We go on about personality being key. We want to see your individuality, your unique element to who you are. There’s a lot of pretty girls in the modeling business, but what cuts one person from being a top model and just a model is the fact that they’ve got some special kind of vibe about them, some passion, motivation, energy, spontaneity, confidence and those are the things we’ve got to see.”

Barker has made his mark on the silver screen, but he will make his big screen debut alongside Russell Brand, Jennifer Garner, Helen Mirren and Nick Nolte this April in the Dudley Moore reboot ‘Arthur.’ Barker plays himself in the film and photographs a magazine cover shoot for Brand and Nolte.

Barker remarks that Brand’s boundless energy and fearlessness make him impossible to ignore. “Russell [Brand] is pretty scandalous,” says Barker about the funny Brit. “He stripped on set while we were outside and was basically loitering around in his tightie whities the whole time. But he was fabulous to shoot because he’s got such character that you don’t have to push, it’s just there.”

Although he is not banking on movie stardom, Barker has hedged his bets on this year’s Oscars. He has his money on “The Social Network” for best picture and Natalie Portman for best-dressed. “I think she’s just stunning and she’s got that special edge to her,” says Barker. “I love the character she plays [in Black Swan] and I feel that she’s still kind of in that zone a little bit. When I see her eyes when she’s being photographed, there’s a wicked side.”

Chic cigars all around—America’s Next Top Model judge and fashion photographer Nigel Barker is a father twice over.

Barker and his model wife Christen Chin welcomed a baby girl last night in New York, Us Weekly reports.  Seven-pound, eleven-ounce Jasmine Barker made her appearance just after 5 p.m.

“Jasmine and Crissy are doing extremely well!” gushed the 36-year-old lens guru.

Jasmine joins two-year-old Jack in the Barker household.

The second-time parents had been prepping for another little boy. In September, Us spoke with Barker’s agent George Cominskie, who revealed the couple was told at thier first ultrasound that the baby was a male.  A second scan turned up female.

On the inevitable question of Nigel’s Next Top Model boss Tyra Banks becoming godmother: “I think she will be,” said Barker. “And Miss J [Alexander] will be fairy godmother.”
